I love the rooms, and the service. If you are looking for a place that is romantic, business related, and at the same time have fun. The Wyndham resort is that place.

Room Type Misrepresented by Reservations

I did not stay at the Wyndham, because of my experience of making a reservation with them.

I made a reservation for a room with a king sized bed, and made it clear to the person who took the reservation that a double bed, the other room type available, wouldn't suit me. No problem, she said, made the reservation, and said she'd send a confirmation email.

First, I got no confirmation email, like I requested. No problem - I called them back, and asked that they send it. They had my name wrong, and my email address wrong. No problem, I told them the correct one.

When I got the confirmation email finally, it said "two double beds". I'm thinking, no problem, I'll just call them and correct it. But, when I called, suddenly the people I spoke to were distinctly...unfriendly.

When I got the reservations manager on the line, the story magically changed, and suddenly my reservation for a king sized bed was a "request" - and that bed size could not be guaranteed. I asked to speak to the manager of the property, and she concurred. Despite the fact that I had made what was represented to me as a reservation for a room with a king sized bed, she was not willing to guarantee that one would be available.

That constituted a problem, which I solved by making a reservation with Marriott Residence Suites around the corner, because they at least had a queen size available, for the same rate as the Wyndham's two doubles.

The reason I'm posting this it to make potential customers of the Wyndham Orlando Resort aware that, despite assurances to the contrary, there are only double beds reliably available at this property, and if you think you've made a reservation for a king size, you may be sorely dissappointed when you arrive. I suspect, but cannot prove, that this misrepresentation is intentional, and so I strongly recommend travelers stay at another property, whose management may be more honest.

Great Value / Great Location / Great Hotel

Having now stayed at The Wyndham Resort six times in the last seven years, I must praise the hotel for its overall standards and consistency over this time. I have always found the staff helpful and the hotel grounds immaculate. The rooms have always been clean although at certain times of the year they can get a little bit musty, but this is mainly down to the high humidity. Gatorville Bar at the pool area is excellent, with a good choice of snacks or meals available at a reasonable cost. The gym is also available for the more energetic guests. Overall I would say that it is an ideal hotel right in the centre of Intl Drive, close to all amenities / restaurants and with tons of lush tropical gardens, ( not forgetting the ducks ! ) all at a pretty reasonable room rate. Check it out !

The Worst of the Worst! Oct. 2005

We recently stayed the Wyndham Orlando Resort. We checked in on September 28th and stayed through October 2nd. I have never had an experience quite like this!

The first room we checked into was in building 6. The room smelled awful! Like mold and mildew. It was so strong, that it overtook us at the door and made me and my family nauseous. We requested a room change and were given a room in building 5, which smelled much better.

We had a full itinerary for our time in Orlando, and the next morning we got up early and started getting ready when my son pointed out the bug on the wall. Upon closer inspection, I could see that it was a cockroach that was almost two inches long! We immediately called the front desk who said they would send someone right away. FIFTEEN minutes later, housekeeping finally called and said they would send an exterminator. We never saw the exterminator.

My husband and son had to chase the cockroach and catch it themselves! While doing so, they discovered many more under one of our beds. I was absolutely appalled!!! I headed to the front desk immediately, and took the bugs as evidence. The lady saw them in the cup I had them in and said, “I do not want those, do not bring those in here!” I can understand that she wouldn't want to touch them, but what was I supposed to do with the bugs? She told me she didn't care what I did with them, and that I could throw the cup in the garbage can outside.

She offered an upgrade to a kid's suite in building 6, which I took with tears in my eyes as I realized the Wyndham Orlando did not care about me or my family's plight.

We were late getting to our attractions that day, and for the rest of the trip we were unnerved and unrested. We slept with the lights on for fear that the cockroaches would get into our things or crawl on us or our children. We awoke as often as possible to check the walls and the floor.

It was an unforgettable hotel…for all the wrong reasons!

Top Local Tips for Orlando

Disney Hollywood Studios Definately see as many shows as possible at the parks. Our favorite show is Fantasmic. If you make reservations for dinner at one of the three restaurants at Hollywood studios you get special reserved seating for Fantasmic so you don't have to wait in line for an hour. Also Indiana Jones and the Stunt show are definately worth seeing. The Great Movie Ride is also very good. Every park you go to get a map and a schedule of events. Definately take advantage of the Fast Pass for the very popular rides.

Convenience of rental cars Rent a car with a airport location. Last time I used Enterprise and you have to take a 15 minutes shuttle to get your car. This time, I rented from Alamo which is right across the street from the terminal. Five minutes after getting my bags, I had my car. It was very convenient. You can also pre-check in online before you leave on your trip, so you can bypass the desk altogether and just pick out a car.

Be organised. Before you leave for your trip do your homework consult the web ask friends.
