Had a great time here

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family and I have just arrived back from 2 weeks staying at the Quality Suites Universal. It was perfect for us. Our room was fine, spending most evenings in as we had a 3 year old with us. The complimentary breakfasts and evening drinks were great, no doubt saving us loads of money. It is in a great location just off International Drive, so we walked most places, and the nearest I-Ride stop is only a couple of minutes walk away. Wet'N'Wild is only a 10 minute walk and there are plenty of good places to eat in the evening only a short distance away.
The only problems we had were with the door lock to our room, but these were sorted out immediately, the staff being extremely helpful.
The shuttles to the Disney theme parks are a bit inconvenient for a family with a young child but great if you want to spend the whole day there, although taxi fares back aren't too expensive, as we found out on a couple of occasions.
All in all we had a great holiday, made even better by the Quality Suites Universal.

Excellent Value for off-season

Thanks to Trip Advisor and "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" we got ten days of great value at the Quality Suites Universal during the end of October. Got the Magicard $59 rate for a roomy (bedroom larger than ours at home) 1-BR suite that was very soundproof, as in never heard the neighbors at all. Oh, I forgot......the one pub behind the hotel piped their karaoke to OUTSIDE speakers, but turning the fan on in the room drowned it out. Like that other good Quality Suites in Kissimmee (beautiful pool, 2 BR suites and quite convenient to Disney), all the rooms open out and overlook the landscaped pool area. Because of the layout, the hotel had a little more character than the concrete-box ones down the road. Plus, ever since I read "The Shining" interior hallways in hotels give me the creeps.

The staff was very professional, with the manager and bartenders extra-friendly.
Saved a lot of money with the complimentary daily happy hours and breakfasts.

Found we walked to a lot of places on I-Drive and could have done away with renting a car. (although EZ Rental was a great local company which was about $100 less than the name-brand car rentals. Will pick you up, too) Turns out we could have used the hotel's free Disney/Universal Shuttles and then a taxi from Universal ($5) if we wanted more flexibility in returning.

We had a great experience here. And truly, I don't work for this chain, I just like their hotels in Orlando!

Exceptional value, great hotel

Two 29 year old guys on a trip to visit friends in Orlando and hit the theme parks. We loved this place! It was the best one on I-Drive that we have stayed in yet.

The price was great. I used the Orlando MagicCard and got a $59 a night rate, staying seven nights October 2 through 9.

Check in was a breeze. We checked in at 9am. It took about 2 minutes. They stored our luggage for us and we went to the parks. Our room was ready when we returned at about 4pm. Our key was waiting for us at the hotel desk. We were in room 722--floor 7 being the top floor. I never once had to wait more than one or two minutes for an elevator--often times it was only 15 to 30 seconds.

Our room was extremely clean when we arrived. The fridge had a strange smell, but that went away after it had been opened once or twice (we think the people before us had strange smelling leftovers in it). There were plenty of clean towels, the sheets on the bed were clean, the bathroom also very clean. Housekeeping came daily, but they seemed to take longer than at other hotels. If you are not out for the entire afternoon there is a chance that your room will not have been made up when you arrive back. We got back daily around 4:30 and our room was made up every day except once, when the housekeeper came about 5 minutes after we got back. We had clean towels and a clean room daily.

The pool is an average hotel pool. It is not huge, but very similar to any other budget-type hotels along I-drive. They ran out of pool towels twice, but more were brought out quickly each time. There is one whirlpool, too, which was very hot. Nice on the tired muscles, but not nice on the sunburn. The pool area was kept clean and orderly when I was there. I was never at the pool during peak afternoon sunshine, so I can't say how crowded it got then, but in the evening it was never very full.

The free happy hour is wonderful! Mike and Toby are fantastic. We just parked ourselves at the bar and they kept our glasses full. They had a good selection of drinks (nothing premium--but it is free) including tap beer (Bud and Bud light), wine, mixed drinks, sodas, and juices. One night they had food, also, which was chicken, rice, vegetables, and cake.

Breakfast was great, also. No, it is not the best food ever, but it is good. Eggs, sausage, pancakes, biscuits, assorted pastries, fresh fruit, cereal, etc. It was plenty to fill us up in the morning. It is served until 10AM so if you sleep in a bit you will still make it there in time.

We used the shuttle to Universal and Sea World, which was OK. The pick up times to Universal were a little bit too early (around 8AM) or a little too late (around 11AM). We walked to Wet N Wild. Didn't use the Disney shuttle.

Walking distance to plenty of restraunts. The asian take out place behind the hotel is fantastic! No restraunt on site, however. There is a small store which sells snacks and frozen dinners. Also, once the free happy hour is over there is no bar on site, either. But, there are plenty of food and drink places within a couple of blocks.

Great hotel, I will definately stay there again on my next trip to Orlando!

t do it...

This hotel looks nothing like it appears on the internet. We took one look at the rooms and immediately checked out.

It might suit students who don't mind ruffing it a bit but this is serious budget accomodation. The carpet was wet and smelly in our room, although they were trying to dry it and the staff were very helpful when we did check out. Definelty not suitable for someone planning to spend much time in their rooms.

The rooms are supposed to be big enough for 6 people but I'm not sure where you would put them...

I will not go back....

My wife and two children (ages 16 and 7) stayed here on Aug. 04 for 4 days and it was 4 days too long. When we first checked in our room wasn't ready so they gave us another room to stay in. This room we had constant troubles with the room key not opening the door. It was a first floor room and the maintenance guy informed us that the keys do not work good when it rains outside. Well, in the summer, isn't that every afternoon?

After a few hours in this room, we could smell a very strong urine scent coming from the bathrooms. Again we were told that this was due to the fact that we had a first floor room and all of the sewage would back up at times and you would get that smell. We notified the manager and asked for a new room. When we got back to this room we had worms crawling in the bathroom. Oh what fun...... The earthworms, we were told, came into the room because, again, it was a first floor room and we were next to some trees...

In the third room that we changed to, we were presented with no towels or pillow cases for the pillows. We approached a few house keeping people about this who were very unhappy that they had to work a few extra minutes to accomodate the customers.

When speaking with one of the staff at the front desk, another person was checking in and asked for help with her luggage. She was laughed at by these workers and comments were mentioned that "what do you think we are, a 5 star hotel?" The person behind the desk jokingly stated to several people....
"Oh bell man, oh bell man, can you help this person out". This totally embarrassed this person and I even offered to help her with her luggage.

Get a CLUE.....If you want return visitations, you have to deserve it. What my family experienced here
was a joke. There are a lot of hotels in the Orlando area and I will NOT recommend this one to anyone.

Fit our needs perfectly!

I wanted a hotel where my wife and I could have our own room while my daughter had hers. We stayed here and it was great. My daughter loved the sleep sofa. she was 14 and her own tv. She could stay up late without bothering us. The breakfast buffet saved us money and time. The food was pretty good, hot and varied. Some odd stuff but I think they tried to take into account cultural differences. True we had to ask for towels and the hair dryer broke but staff accomodated us and repairs were made promptly. Great location. Great buy for the money. If a inexpensive two room suite is what you need this is the place. Excellent time will stay there again.

Disappointed

from A TripAdvisor Member
The rooms were spacious. Maid service could have been better. Some days you would be lucky if they left you with enough towels. 1 day they only left 1 handle towel along with the wash clothes and bath towels. Hot breakfast was very crowded each day. The orange juice was terrible. Being in FL you would expect good OJ. Otherwise food was average. Pool was also very crowded and it was hard to find a chair. Never any clean towels at the pool. Had to go to housekeeping each day for towels. People would leave their used towels on the chairs and then leave the pool area.

After looking over this site We Booked through a travel agent so we could be close to Universal Studios. The Location WAS wonderful.A hop over the Interstate and you were there. The only complaints we had were the elevators being so SLOW. On top of that one broke down and we had only ONE to service 7 floors, They are small and stopped on every floor. The personal Laundy Facility did not have enough working washers, They are working on it, I did see new washers in boxes waiting on coin recievers. The idea of spending hours washing in this small little room with 10 other people fighting over who gets the ONE dryer next did not appeal to me.
The rooms were nice, clean and we always had plenty of towels.Lots of room for a family to be comfortable. Just bring enough clothes and ask for the ground floor. But most of them were for the handicapped. The Breakfast was hot..and lots of people were there every morning.. we ate the fresh fruit mainly. We are picky and dont eat pork and beans first thing with our coffee. They did have a strange menu .The pool was clean and every one I met was friendly. We had a great week.My Husband gave the free cocktails two thumbs up.But I would stay somewhere else next time.

Loved everything scottish review

A very happy hotel with people returning year after year. The cleaning staff deserve a pat on the back. (excellent) Rooms cleaned every day.The breakfast every day is a god send with a variety of choices for everyone. The cocktail hour is fab with the best bar people out Toby and Michael who will cater for your every need. The kids loved the pool which is cleaned every day. All amenties are within walking distance (bars and restaurants). Shuttle service fantastic. No bar at nite but you can take your own drinks downstairs. I wish I was there now. I would not hesitate to go back. Value for money. We were on holiday from 4th july to 18th july 2004. Basic but fab.

Excellent Hotel and a Great Value!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My fiancee and I stayed at this hotel for six nights in June 2004. It cost approximately $70 a night including the taxes, etc. This is a really nice hotel and a great value!! The staff was very nice and helpful. The one room suite was very clean and spacious. It included 2 TVs, refrigerator, microwave, radio, etc....basically everything we possibly needed. They offer a huge complementary buffet breakfast each morning from 7am-10am and the food is really good. They don't just have bagels and cereal like most other hotels but they have bacon, eggs, sausage, etc. My personal favorite though was the happy hour every night from 5:30pm-7:30pm. All the alcoholic beverages you can drink....you can't beat that!! I will definitely stay at this hotel the next time I am in the Orlando area. I would also recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Orlando.
