The godsend of this hotel is that it's a close walk to an off-Disney property shopping center with plenty of venues for eats...a Waffle House or Perkins for breakfast and a pricey Indian restaurant, a TGI Fridays, a Jungle Jim's, and two or three other reasonably priced national-chain-type places...plus a great ice cream spot. After having our pockets picked (as usual) at the various Disney spots, it was an oasis of monetary relief.
But the hotel itself is average. While most other hotels may yield free coffee in their lobbies, this one charges nearly $2 for a cup (usual Florida fare..which ain't good!)...interestngly their muffins cost less! My wife and I had breakfast at the hotel restaurant before our two boys awoke one AM. Breakfast for two cost about $24 with tip...we each had two eggs, mine with bacon. We knew better, of course, since we'd served he boys breakfast in bed the previous AM.
We had a suite, which consisted of one room with a living area and almost a kitchenette (table, counter microwave, and bar sink). The living area contained a chair and a sofa with full-size pull-out bed. My toes hung out over the end, and I'm 5'11"...not exactly Wilt the Stilt. We gave the boys--who are taller than I am--the other room, which had two queen-sized beds and the bath. Both rooms had TVs. The rooms were separated by louvered folding doors. There was a set of four drawers across from the bathroom, which had a counter over it. This was quite handy.
The rooms were clearned regularly, towels replaced, and the beds made. The small store on the first floor was always well stocked. Naturally, Disney tickets and gear can be had at another small store.
My main complaint was that we never did figure out how to alter the climate control system. It was either too cold when on or a bit warm is turned off. Adjustments to the temperature control system seemed to do nothing. But we slept well enouggh on the whole despite this failing. The other main issue was that the living area was not conducive to family gatherings.,,on the other hand our boys are at an age that I'm not sure they would have taken advantage of it often if it had been.
The pool was nice, and fairly empty most of our visit...but admittedly it rained a bit (with thunder and lightening) most every day. In fact, due to the weather, lines at Disney even on the weekend were comparatively short...like early February when we visited three time previously (this time, June 23-27).
The buses leave hourly or a bit more often to the three Disney kingdoms. But the return buses are hard to get. Hence, we opted to walk or take our rental car to Marketplace and take buses from there. I recommend taking them to the Polynesian and walking to the Transportation Center.
Better yet, save on the rental car and stay at the Polynesian, or Animal Kingdom Lodge, or Boardwalk.

Getting around If you go to the AAA office, they will give you great time saving tips on how to get around
flea markets great flea markets on international drive must see
January, A Great Time To Go If you'd like to go to Disneyword or Universal Studios without dealing with the huge crowds or long lines, I'd recommend going the 2nd week of January. The prices were great, crowds minimal and the wait time for the rides were not bad at all. The shopping was amazing. We went to three different shopping locations and found so many sales. Oh...did I mention the weather was fabulous? Right around and average of 75 degrees

Upon arrival, the first thing that I found inconvenient was the U-turn I had to make a block or so down just to get to the hotel from the I-4 freeway. There was no easier way.
I did notice the hotel was again, very colorful. However, it did NOT have a sign out front or anything displaying the name or address. So I am grateful for the fact that it was colorful. That is how I found it.
Upon check-in, there was a HUGE disappointment! This is when I discovered that this hotel was no longer a Doubletree or affiliated with Hilton or AAA at all. So the points I thought I was accumilating and the service I was accustomed to wasn't obtainable.
That was evident when the Customer Service/Check-in people (including the "manager") couldn't explain to me why I wasn't informed that the hotel switched ownership as of January 1, 2007. The also weren't very friendly or happy people. It was as if I had burdened them by checking in - which did take close to 45 minutes. After a 6 hour flight and being up since 4am, I'll have to say that my check-in too far too long!
When getting to the room, it was okay. Clean. I'd have to say the best part of this hotel was the beds. Very comfortable bedding.
There was an interesting event that occured with the maid (who came knocking every morning just after 8:30am). One morning after we came back late the night before, we were sleeping in and I asked her to come back in an hour or so and she just stood there in disbelief . She mumbled with a hint of anger, "this is my last room". My question to you is:
Did I Book My Vacation Around My Family or The MAID???
In order to be fair, another pleasing thing for me was the soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner where Cucumber Melon from Bath & Body Works. (Hey...I'm trying to be fair here).
Upon check out, another hassel, I noticed that I was being charged daily for a safe. $1.60 a day that I didn't even use. Also my bill had not reflected a $0.75 daily credit for choosing not to receive the morning paper.
We didn't get exceptional service, not even good service. The new Orlando Vista Hotel would have not been my choice for my family to stay at for a week in Orlando, Florida.
We didn't even get cookies upon check-in as we normally do with Doubletree. My t.v. remote didn't work and my shower didn't drain so as I showered I stood in about 5 inches of water. :(
