Top Local Tips for Orlando
Rent a car A rental car is a must. There are so many options, from where to eat, to shop or what to see. Even if you are staying at a Disney resort and transportation is included, a rental car gives you flexibility. We drove our car to the parks and since we stayed at a Disney resort, parking was free. Driving in Orlando is very easy as U-turns are legal and roads are well maintained. Considering the cost of airport shuttles, if there is more than a couple people in your party, the rental car is a no brainer.
Epcot-Soarin Its worth the wait, ride Soarin. Get a fast pas as soon as you get there in the morning, they were sold out by 11am on a Friday morning in March(their non busy season)
Fast Pass at Universal and Island of Adventure In my opinion spending an extra 30.00 for a fast pass is so worth it. We were able to get on every single ride and still be back at the room by 7PM. It is unbelievable how long the lines can be. We rode the Hulk. In front of the ride was an 80 minute wait. We walked right up with the fast pass and we were on the next train. It was great to not spend half the day just waiting in line. I think Disney could do a better job with their fast pass, it was more hassle than it was worth.

On January 8,2007 at 12:30 am in the early morning, I awoke in room 2613 of Tower 2 to 5-7 cockroaches in my room on the 6th floor. These rodents were infesting this room and were the large species one only hears about surviving in Florida.
When I contacted the front desk, I was informed that housekeeping would be coming immediately. I was fairly calm during my first phone call to them but became really disturbed when one of these rodents made its way over my barefoot.
When the poor housekeeper arrived, she took one look at the roaches and was beside herself. I must admit, the experience was unsettling to say the least for both of us. Upon demand of a room change, the front desk moved my room to Tower 1 - but, amazingly that early morning, not so much as an apology was conveyed.
I wrote a letter to management outlining the incident and left for my seminar. I handed the letter to staff at 6:30 in the morning after no sleep - I am a very composed male generally, but this incident was stressful to say the least.
When I arrived from the seminar at 7:30 at night, I was met by not so much as a telephone message from management for an apology or follow-up.
I called management at 8:00 in the evening to inquire whether they even read my letter.
My in-person conversation with Raj (who I had to travel to see), a hotel manager was nothing but a disappointment and frankly infuriated me more than the incident and lack of sleep. This management team lacks even a fundamental understanding of hospitality and common courtesy.
Tell me my readers: would you not expect even a phone call conveying an apology after an occurence like the one above?
My opinion of this hotel is that it is nothing but awful - a shame based on the potential. The management has no idea what customer service is about.
I am writing this from the hotel room because I am so angry with the lack of professionalism of these people. I am indeed forced to remain here until the end of the seminar as all other hotels in the area are booked.
If management does anything to suprise me, I will be glad to inform you via email so that you can make an informed choice in hotels in Orlando.
I am just thankful that my children were not with me during this trip.
