Wonderful Service
from tish1080Quaint, simple, unassuming, perfect!
from EsoterikSo ok, yes, as the other reviews have reflected, the hotel, in keeping with the Art Deco era, is not huge. The rooms are not palatial - but they are definitely adequately sized for their purpose (i.e. sleeping, getting dressed, chilling etc)
They are also well appointed and clean. The furnishings are well maintained. Everything worked as it should do. Air conditioning was very good. No problems with shower - however MOST rooms dont have a bath. They might not tell you this. ALso, unlike what was stipulated on the website (so I am informed), they do not have US adaptors for use, since previous guests pinched them all. They do have irons though and toiletries are replaced almost every day.
The location is fab - right on Ocean Drive, a short 2 min walk to the beach. There is a petrol station round the corner for your daily consumables - 2 blocks down is Washington Avenue, where much of the night activity takes place. A wide range of clubs and pubs are positioned along that street.
Washington Ave is also home to a whole host of boutiques and designer stores, from Urban Outfitters, to Gap and Sisley, to Armani. Cafes and bars are all dotted around the locality.
In my opinion this hotel is very good value FOR THE PRICE. I have just 2 gripes with this hotel.
First, is the breakfast. I understand that a COntinental brekafast is a little more modest than a full English, but in my opinion, a couple of bagels, muffins, tea, coffee and orange juice is a little to scanty! The cinnamon bagels were all finished by 9.30!! C'mon! How about some fruit or some cereal, maybe a few danish pastries??
My second whinge concerns one member of staff in particular who wasnt too friendly or helpful. Dont remember her name but she had permed dyed blonde hair and a hispanic accent.
Thankfully she contrasted starkly with the wonderful Anne Faye who was outstanding! Give her a raise.
Another thing - there is a considerable vagrant contingent in the area, who will occassionally approach you while u are trying to digest your bagel and try to bum a ciggie or a quarter off you. But that is not unique to the Winterhaven. It seemed to be the same the whole way along Ocean drive, even at the posher hotels.
Overall, a great place for the money. If you want a clean, comfortable hotel with some character but dont want to pay heaven and earth for it, this is for you! I will definitely stay here again.
Great hotell
from A TripAdvisor MemberBest hotel on Ocean Drive
from BearGoddessNot as nice as I thought it would be
from A TripAdvisor MemberAgain, if you're going to South Beach with your pals and are going to be at the beach all day and party all night...then I would recommend staying at the Winterhaven because of location and price. If you're going to South Beach on business or on a romantic trip with your significant other...don't bother.
Nice small hotel
from janet1Quaint but very Clean
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe bed was comfortable. We stayed here for 2 1/2 days before a cruise.
It was perfect. It is right across from the beach and they supply you with beach towel when needed. We were not bothered by the loud partying down the street. We did not rent a car--but could walk to everything.
We had our continental breakfast on the front porch in the morning and a cocktail in the evening. It was a great place to people watch. The Winterhaven was even on the Art Deco tour. People would pass us by and look to see what the name of the hotel was. I would recommend this hotel and stay here again.
Dissappointed with the room but all else was great!
from A TripAdvisor MemberNow for the downsides... the rooms are very small. I'm told that every room in the building is the same size, 12x12, but they seem much smaller than that. Although I didn't expect a spectacular view because we had gotten our room from an internet site, I was disgusted to look out my window and see a white wall. It was so close you couldn't even tell the weather. I was told we got this room because we purchased our room from the internet and would have gotten a better room if we had called them directly. The bathroom was small and there was nowhere in the shower stall to put your toiletries so I had to keep opening the shower curtain to get the necessities. Even the soap dish didn't hold the soap without a washcloth acting as the hammock to hold it. My search for an outlet to plug in the iron resulted in moving furniture to find one. This was a bit inconvenient since there wasn't much room to even set the ironing board up.
All in all, our stay was ok. If you opt to stay here, be sure to call and ask about your room and the view you want. You have to be up a few stories to see the ocean. Otherwise, you're looking at the street or the area buildings around you. I can't say I'd never stay here again but I'll be sure to compare this one to other area hotels, including the amenities they offer.
terrific deal
from HalibouThe space was smallish, but most hotels in SoBe are unless you want to spend much much more, and although the bathroom had only a shower, it had great pressure and was all new facilities. I have stayed in five different hotels in SoBe (including the Loews) and found this by far to be the best on offer when considering price, facilities and location.
Will definitely stay again.

from A TripAdvisor MemberTop Local Tips for Miami Beach
Espaniola Way Great place to visit during the evening to stroll and people watch. The Hosteria Romana restaurant is a hotspot for lunch and dinner.
Parking Parking can be found on 13th and 16th street cheaper than valet service
Tips Because South beach attracts a wide range of European visitors, I have noticed that many restaurants add the gratuity of 15-18%. However when you charge the bill there is a line for tips and I feel that it could confuse patrons to think that they have to tip more. I also noticed that restaurants round up the bill when giving change on a cash transaction. Not to be cheap ,but I think that they should give you the option to say keep the change. I travel extensively and I feel that many first time visitors can be confused by this policy. I noticed it at Nexxt Cafe on Lincoln Road. Great value as a restaurant but they should really be more consumer friendly.
