Upon checking in I thought the hotel was fun and different with the unique decor. However we go to the room and the sink in the bathroom was broke with a trash can under it to catch the water. Then we woke up the next morning with a giant Palmetto roach on our curtains. If you have never seen one.....look it up, they are huge! It was about 5 inches long! They told us it was because our window was open (which was apparently open upon checking in because we did not open it) so we stayed. However we came back later that night and found several roaches and began packing. We were forced to look for a new hotel and move hotels at 1:30 am. Then I had to worry the entire rest of the trip that maybe I had roaches in all my things. Extremely unpleasant.

Great location - but no Ritz!

Great location - beach accross the road - sits comfortably with other hotels on Ocean Drive but don't be fooled. This is no Ritz Carlton and at this price u can probably stay at The Ritz! Unless you book the ocean view room u will get a room with a view of next doors roof - ugly! Rooms are very old looking and probably havent been updated in a while. ALSO - this hotel charges $US $50 upfront for surplus charges! Make sure u get this back as I'm getting the run around to get this debited back into my account. Staff were a bit rude too.

Nice stay! The staff was friendly, but if you want a room, get one with a sea view. Mine looked at a brick wall on the back. The rooms were clean and tidy with a 42" plasma, it's basic but it's all you need for a short stay. Location was excellent, and the look of the hotel was superb. I would stay there again.

I stayed at the Colony Hotel in South Beach, Miami from 3/28/05-4/01/05. It was okay. Don't stay here if you like to go to sleep early, or sleep in late, the hotel is a bit noisy. The service was below average and the room was gross and very small. Our sheets never changed, (I could tell because the same stain was on the sheet every night). Also, the floor, which was full of sand by the third day, was never swept. This hotel is for spring-breakers looking for the beach. I did feel safe during my stay and would recommend it for those on a tight budget. However, if you search around, there are better places on Ocean Ave. for about the same price.

I just got back from Miami, and I stayed at the Colony. I loved it!!! It is such a great value. You are right in the heart of South Beach. It was not a noisy as people are saying, I mean you are in Miami were the nightlife begins at midnite and goes till 7am. I will be back next year and I will stay at the Colony. If there was one thing that I would change I would like a refrigerater in the room.

My husband and I were very impressed with the Colony. The location, right on the beach, was wonderful. We were right in the middle of everything (restaurants, shops, clubs, etc.). The room was beautifully decorated with Plasma TV, and modern styling room. The hotel service was great. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. I would really like to recommend this hotel te everyone. One last important thing, the price was very reasonable.

It was good, but not for a long stay

I stayed here the weekend of March 11th. It is in a great location but very noisy. I wouldn't stay there for a long period of time but for the night is was great. I would stay here again only for one night. The rooms are very small but cute.

This hotel was just ok. I heard that they had renovated the hotel but our room was pretty bad. The bed was broken and there was no plasma TV in our room. The view from our room was the garbage dump and the kitchen of the restaurant next door. The bathroom was so small that you couldn't even stand in there to brush your teeth. The shower was so small and clausterphobic. The continental breakfast was a joke - small muffins and coffee. The only good thing about this hotel was the location - right in the middle of everything. Also, the front desk was very accomodating and friendly. This place is good to just shower and sleep.

My husband and I stayed at the Colony Hotel and we really enjoyed the stay. The rooms are very nice and we will definately recommend it to our friends, and family. I really loved the plasma televisions and the hardwood floors!! GREAT PLACE TO STAY!!!!!

What a change

In my last visited to Miami Beach, I stayed at the Colony Hotel and what I saw was amazing, a completed renovation, each room has a plasma TV, low beds and a decoration that is really chic and modelage. The staff will help you with anything you need, the location is the best WHY? because the only thing that you have to do is cross the street and you will be in front of the ocean, if you need a resturant they have one in house, or if you want to eat out, you will find restaurant in the same block that the Hotel is located.

In other words, my stayed in this hotel was a pleasure.

I had the best vacation in South Beach! This hotel was great! The decor was super hip and they have a killer sushi bar. I had so much fun at their Basement Lounge ... beautiful people, great music and good drinks. Loved everything about this hotel - great service, great location and great atmosphere! (They also have cool plasma TV's in the rooms!)

I would like to share with all of you the wonderful time that me and my family had during our stay at Colony Hotel in Miami Beach last week First I will mention the great location of the hotel, directly across from the ocean in the middle of Ocean Drive. Second you should see our faces when we open the door to our room, what a surprise, the room looked absolutely amazing, beautifully restored room with a 42 inchs plasma TV and I can not forget the Japanese stile beds. We visited Miami before but because of Colony Hotel this was our best vacation so far.

I was in Miami Beach and was paying way too much for a hotel by the ocean, and was told by a friend that I had to go check out the renovations at the Colony Hotel. The hotel staff was so friendly and they had a less expensive rate, so I booked the rest of my vacation there! I was so pleased by my room ... they had this huge plasma tv and everythig was so clean!!! The location was perfect! Everything was in walking distance, including the ocean!!! This was such a fantastic hotel I would highly reccomend it and will be going back very soon!

Top Local Tips for Miami Beach

Forget car on SOBE You don't really need a car in South Beach. You can walk most places you'll want to go, and can take bus or cab for others. Parking is a pain and expensive. Take a shuttle from the airport and walk the rest of the time.

For next time... Stay at James Street hotels (quieter) or nicer hotels. Check out the beach first and not on your last day - it is great location. Question tipping policy if service is bad. Try to eat at Washington Street restaurants or local places as it is cheaper.

Excellent Crab Claws Had lunch at Joe's Takeaway (11 Collins Ave). EXCELLENT...and a 5 minute walk from the colony.
