Historical Traveller Reviews of Pelican Hotel

Great staff, perfect location, Highly recommended!

from Thailand_dreaming
Nice and comfortable. I stayed for four nights. Really had a good time. The following reviews say it all. I would be repeating what others had to say. Spend a few extra bucks and have a great time! I have been to 52 different countries and have become picky. I really try and find faulty in most places I stay. I could find none here.

OH, have a glass of Napa Cellars Cabernet at the bar.

The Heart of South Beach

My wife and I just got back from our stay here and we were very pleased with this hotel. The location was great as our room overlooked the beach and ocean drive. It did get a little noisy so don't expect a quiet night (maybe the rooms in the back of the hotel are less noisy-not sure?) I guess the noise is expected if you want to be in the middle of everything. Overall, this Art Deco Hotel was great and we enjoyed being in walking distance to all the outdoor restaurants and beach.

Great location and cool look

from Simpso
Stayed here for 2 nights over MLK Holiday with my girlfriend. Priced a little on the high side (I thought--although it could have been because it was a holiday weekend), but the hotel was pretty cool. All the rooms are uniquely decorated with different themes. You can actually go online to pelicanhotel and check out each of the rooms. They'll let you preference a few of the rooms when you are booking, but we ended up getting one not on our list. I think the novelty of the rooms sort of wears off after a while, but it's still interesting for a short stay. The rooms are on the small side as noted in most of the reviews, but it didn't really bother us. Also, you won't get any kind of a view unless you're willing to pay quite a bit for it. But, the location for this hotel is great. It's right on Ocean Drive at 8th street. The Pelican is right next to News Cafe, a nice little hangout, and in the heart of South Beach. It's directly across from the beach, which is beautiful. It's clean, well kept and bigger than I thought it would be. We were only able to go to the beach for part of one day. Near as I can tell, it looks like most of the hotels on Ocean Drive have manned stations on the beach with lounge chairs, fitted towel sheets on them, and umbrellas. I think at most of the ones you have to pay to use them, but you don't if you stay at the Pelican, which is nice. I heard the other places charged $10-15 for each lounge chair. I'm not sure what the policy is if you aren't a hotel guest. The Pelican also has a cool little bar (emphasis on the word "little") and restaurant in it. Some other nice touches are the free Evian and Pellegrino water in the fridges and the big shower heads.

Really a hoot

from grapdad
I'm laying in my bed in Room 201, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The weather is 76 and sunny, & I have the flu! My wife checked us in here, put me to bed and she's gone to South Beach. If I had to be sick, this is the place. It is totally 1950's and charming. Rack rate was $315 for this, but I didn't want to argue, just get to bed. Location, furnishings, hospitality have all been first class. We would come back (& will). Definately worth the trouble, and the reputation it has is well deserved.

Pelican Hotel is great

from fancybits
After reading about the Pelican we stayed there for 2 nights after a cruise, well worth the price. With the sunbeds on the beach and water in your room included it worked out great. We found it really relaxing and very friendly as well as the fact that it has THE location. Everything was around us. We had friends staying north and south of us but both evenings we ended up right by our hotel! We had stayed in the Winterhaven the night before the cruise and found it the perfect initiation to South Beach. Much quieter end but brilliant for the price.

Always a special Treat !!

Good outdoor dining

from A TripAdvisor Member
Dined here twice. Sat on the outdoor terrace, although the inside looked really inviting. All round good relaxed vibe here. Margaritas and mojitos were good and the food generally very good. Very good selection of wines, especially those by the glass. Service friendly, enthusiastic and efficient.

Fab Pelican

I went to the Pelican for the first time on my own and it was the best holiday I've experienced. The room was amazing (i was in the tarzan room!) and every member of staff had excellent customer service skills; the food was excellent in the restaurant and i recommend the cocktails at the bar...

Hotel made the difference!

from MargeryBrick_NJ
We stayed in South Beach for two nights on the way to the Keys. We are not really into drinking and partying and the shopping wasn't so great. But, because of this Hotel, we do not regret the stopover. Staying at the Pelican is an experience in itself! The theme rooms are really special; bathrooms, closet space, stereo, turndown service, were all above average. The public areas (even the bathrooms) are so interesting and unique. The staff was extremely nice and the location perfect.

The Pelican Brief

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at The Pelican recently with my wife. We were celebrating her 40th bday. We couldn't have picked a better hotel! Everything mentioned from other reviewers and more. Definitely use the concierge as it will open doors and save your wallet if you like clubbing. We do. A word about SBeach nightlife: If you like droning monotonous bass go to any club that features house music. SBeaches' version of "house" is the most boring dance music I've ever been around. Go someplace featuring hip hop or anything else. The harder the club is to get into, the worse the music and vibe. Go to The Clevelender's outside bar and party and dance like fun loving human beings. $14 highballs/$7 Heinekens at Skybar! Crazy!
Definetly do the beach. Use their super posh lounge chairs and umbrellas. Great sand and water!
Do Lincoln Rd. shopping. Eat at Cafe Nexxt (on Lincoln) unreal! I walked into several hotels around sbeach and I couldn't find one that beat The Pelican for location and atmosphere. Go!

Top Local Tips for Miami Beach

Parking in SoBe is a hassel! If you MUST take a car to South Beach stay somewhere centrally located so you can have the car valet parked and not worry about it during your stay. Keep in mind valet parking is expensive everywhere in the area. There are plenty of taxis if you need one. If you do your research right, choose a good hotel is walking distants to what you want to do.

OCEAN DRIVE EATING Beware of all the half price and happy hour offers and restaurants that have plated food on show. Many charge you twice the norm for the first drink and then give you the 2nd drink for so called free. Be prepared to pay $60-100 per person for an average dinner.
