A terrific stay at the Impala

from A TripAdvisor Member
We returned to the Impala for a second visit on October 3-9, 2004. As we did the first time, we really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a suite this time, which was a wonderful treat. The accomodations, as was the case on our first visit, were charming and immaculate. The architecture and ambiance of the hotel were terrific. The staff goes out of their way to be helpful. We also ate at Spiga, the restaurant on the premises, twice during our stay because we enjoyed the food and romantic setting. It was beach weather on this trip, so it was great fun to be only two blocks away.
We enjoyed being an easy walk from all of the action and night life on South Beach, but having a quiet, low-key setting to return to each day. We plan to come back again in January.

What a Delightful Visit

from jkimmel
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Impala on September 23 & 24th. What a wonderful little hotel off the main street in South Beach. The rooms are very european and comfortable. Since it is located behind a restaurant it is very quiet. If you are looking for a place with a pool and excitement, this is not the place for you. But after visiting the noisy beach area, it's nice to come back to peace and quiet. Roz and her staff are wonderful. It was right during the hurricanes and Roz was ever the optimist assuring us that Jeanne would not bother South Beach. All the same, we headed to the Keys Saturday morning to escape the winds and rain. thanks for the recommendation!

bad seed!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed there through a reccomendation from a friend and we were all extremely dissapointed. The rooms were no big deal, quite small, nothing above average. We felt like we had to tiptoe when entering and exiting the room. There were no springs on any of the doors which weighed about 100 pounds. so they would slam and make an obnoxious bang! It felt like I was teenager that had to sneak into my room at night past curfew!
The staff and owner were overall friendly for the exception of one man who worked the night shift was no doubt a racist. Quite rude and disrepectful to my and my associates when one night he demeaned our measly $210.00 a night to other guests who had rooms worth $350.00. One afternoon as I was outside in the the hotel cafe talking to my friends on my cell phone, he came out side and starting screaming at me that I was disturbing the guests! Then proceeded to act like he told me about 10 times. He lied and said that other guests were complaining that noise was coming from our room, when the only thing we did in the room was sleep and shower. We never turned the TV on once! When I asked the day staff about these complaints and the owner said there was not one complaint about us and would address the lies immediately! This was one incident within 6 days that left me angry and disgusted. I made an oath that I would never stay there or recommend that place to anyone. Even though they compensated us one and reassured us that it would never happen again, there was still a bad taste left in my mouth. nothing can take aaway that feeling! Unless they get rid of the bad seed at hotel Impala will always be rotten in my eyes.

Perfectly appointed, great staff

from gregjarvis
This is probably one of the best hotels in South Beach! Rooms are excellently appointed with stone floors and stylish stone bathrooms.

The central location is a huge plus.

The sheets are of very fine quality and the bed is extremely comfortable.

The hotel can be very pricey, but I found a great rate at a site called chicagopride.com (the rate was about $100 less a night than through expedia or travelocity. At $103 a night on chicagopride.com this hotel is a bargain.

Highly Recommended!

My husband and I went to FLorida to celebrate his 50th birthday. Hotel Impala was PERFECT! Clean, pretty, small, quiet...It was amazing how secluded we felt, even though we were in the heart of South Beach! Loved the beach every morning (one block away)and the restaurants recommended by Ros, the manager (she really knows Miami!). She and her staff are part of the reason I highly recommend this place - we felt like the only ones at the hotel with the attention that was given to us, as well as the accomodating that was done on our behalf...plus, for my husband's birthday, we were upgraded to a suite and received the most georgous bouquet from the staff! We had the most wonderful time on our trip and Hotel Impala is one of the primary reasons - you won't be sorry!

ll be back!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I just came back from South Beach for a short stay. We chose the Impala hotel based on reviews from TripAdvisor and we loved it - just perfect for our needs! It's a small, lovely, quiet hotel far enough from the noisy nightlife of South Beach yet only a block away from the beach and within walking distance of shops and restaurants. All the staff (Jann, Richie, Brenda, et al) were super nice and accomodating, especially Ros, the general manager. She let us check in early and check out late. Free continental breakfast is served at the hotel restaurant, Spiga, which is another reason to stay at Hotel Impala. We had a lovely meal there and didn't have to worry about drinking and driving! Hotel Impala doesn't have an elevator and the rooms don't have a fridge but these things are easily overlooked due to the personalized attention one gets from Ros and her staff. We'll be back!!!

beautiful retreat in the heart of South Beach

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I went to South Beach during the August longweekend for our mini honeymoon. We chose the Impala hotel after researching other hotels and reading reviews from TripAdvisor. We both really loved the hotel and were pleasantly surprised. Its a small hidden treasure just far enough from the crazy nightlife of South Beach. The staff were just incredible and accomodating, especially Roz and Richard (ask him about his barbie collection). They let us check in early and check out late. The hotel and the room were beautifully decorated and spotless! We were just a block away from the beach and the nightlife and it was simply perfect to walk a block and take in the action and then return to our own little peaceful and beautiful little hotel. It certainly did feel like a mediterranean villa. We walked around Ocean Drive and Collins quite a bit and there was no other hotel at which we would have rather stayed.
If you want to be right in the heart of the nightlife, then stay elsewhere. If you want to be walking distance from the nightlife but be able to retreat to your own private, peaceful hotel, then definitely chose Impala. We will certainly stay here again the next time we are in South Beach.

Romantic Getaway

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Impala for the 4th of July weekend and in a word was "romantic". A very private place, with great location, elegant decor and good service. Wouldn't recommend for someone with kids, there is no pool.

beautiful hotel

wonderful hotle, with exceptional an service team always there to meet your needs. beautiful decor thru out the hotel. will stay there everytime I visit southbeach, and would recommend any going to stay there.

wonderful hotel, but perfunctory service

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel Impala truly offers a wonderfully quiet and understated option to the deco-opulence down Collins. All the vibrant clamor of South Beach lies just outside the hotel gate, but does not intrude on the quiet confines of your room. The tastefully subtle Mediterranean styling provides a fine contrast to the exuberance outside. We loved the room and the hotel, but found service somewhat lacking. During the entirety of our 18 hour stay, only one hotel employee was in evidence. By virtue of being the only one there, he was unable to leave the desk to offer much in the way of assistance for the guests. Even when approached, he didn't exactly exude friendly generosity. Probably caught him on a long, bad night/day...

Top Local Tips for Miami Beach

Watch out for $20 drinks! If you order an alcoholic beverage anywhere near the beach be prepared for a hefty price tag. While we waited to check in we stopped to have a drink (nothing special just a bloody mary) and the drinks were $20. This is common up and down the strip. Ask before you order!
