Historical Traveller Reviews of Holiday Inn Miami Beach Hotel

Pleasantly Surprised....

from Got2Travel08
Used Priority Club Reward Points for a 1 night stay after a cruise. Since as it was only 15,000 points (most resort Holiday Inns are 25,000) and after reading some previous reviews, I was very apprehensive. However, it was a very enjoyable experience, and a bargain for what it cost. The hotel was clean and fresh, service was excellent, the pool area and grounds were very comfortable and inviting, and unexpectedly, a room was available at 9:00 am when we arrived to check in after the cruise. The only negative was having only two old slow elevators, but this was only a minor inconvenience.

Perfectly Acceptable

Trawled TripAdvisor for days reading reviews and getting more and more frantic trying to balance service with price. Finally determined Holiday Inn met price target and decided "to risk it" around service.
For the money we paid we had a very good experience. You get what it says you will, Yes there are only two lifts and yes the hotel is used for cruise accommodation so there are times when check-in and the lobby are very busy. However, staff were helpful, room was a standard Holiday Inn product, there were no hidden extras on the bill, our bags were retained by the concierge on the day we checked out and returned to us at a very busy time of the day with no fuss.
Our initial room was next door to some old guys playing at spring break, so at 0500 in the morning as they were returning from a night on the town, the noise was excessive and their language profane. I simply went down to Reception explained the position ansd by 0600 had key to an alternate room where we moved before breakfast.
Gym facility is basic but as described.
Walking along the Boardwalk to 17th Stret and Lincoln Road viewed the pool areas of other hotels much more expensive than ours and would say that reinfrorced our view of value for money.

t get what you paid for

We stayed at this hotel as part of our honeymoon and paid more for 2 nights here, than we did for 6 nights at a higher class of hotel in Orlando.

We booked on Expedia which stated 'complimentary breakfast' but on arriving at the dining room on our first morning were told we would be $17 each for breakfast (luckily we checked this before eating anything). Dining room staff were not interested in our booking paperwork and referred us to reception. Reception staff were extremely rude and reluctantly spoke to the duty manager who offered $9.99 off our breakfasts. When we returned to the dining room the staff insisted that this discount was not 'each' but $9.99 off the total breakfast bill. We stated our disappointment and left, not eating in the dining room.

On returning from our day out there was a message left for us at reception to contact the duty manager after 9am the following morning. She offered complimentary breakfasts for our last morning and although she resolved the matter on our final morning the whole experience left a negative impression. I see that Expedia have since changed the details for this hotel, removing the 'complimentary breakfast' statement.

I agree with previous reviews regarding the hotels lifts, the need for redecoration and the state of the rooms. It appears that you are paying for the hotel location, not the service, the quality or size of the room or parking facilities.

The best $75.00 Hotel in Miami

from tbirdred
I was in this hotel for 5 nights in Feb 08. One of the elevators did not work the entire time I was there and the other would only carry 6 people without shutting down. Plus, the hotel was full!
My room got to 56 degrees the first night because the A/c unit was either on or off, no control. The shower overflowed into the bath room floor every time which required 3 or 4 towels to clean up.
The managers had no interest in getting anything fixed. If you like to walk steps and have a wet floor and get no service this is for YOU

Nce but needed work

The front desk associate charged my debit card twice for the room and forced a 24 hour freeze on my banking account. Which spoiled the first 24 hours of my stay. My account was frozen which held my spending. The elevators are very slow but thats due to lots of guests at the hotel. The walls are thin but we still enjoyed ourselves. The a/c started to leak and that took the janitor about 15 minutes to fix the problem. The room was decent and so was the bathroom. It was well worth what we paid for the room. The distance to the night life was even better. The bus stop is not that far from the front door. The only negative part was the temp. I have asthma and the humidty got to me. Other than that my stay was very pleasant. I would stay there again.

Nice hotel

from Borders24U
I had read many reviews on this hotel, most were negative about the staff. We found the staff to be extremely friendly, especially Roy the bartender at the poolside bar, to be fabulous. They were extremely helpful and responsive to our needs.

The only thing I would say is that the rooms do need some updating, which appears as though they are in the process of doing. The lobby area was beautiful and the location is fantastic!

Although not displayed anywhere they do offer a shuttle to the Miami port at a reasonable fee. Just ask at the concierge desk and they will take care of everything for you.

We would stay here again!

Just Got Back...

I loved this hotel, I arrived at aprox. 11am after a cruise and understandably the check in was @4pm. As soon as a room became available (aprox 45 min), I was checked in. In my opinion it lives up to a 3 star hotel. I found the staff to be very nice, Alot of thanks To Gina - she was very nice and helpful. The bellman was working his @ss off. I think alot of the complaints are about the building itself, but the truth is Miami has alot of older buildings. My room was clean and accomodating, the bathroom was beautifully updated. The elevators are old, but functional. I stayed on the 10th floor and I don't recall waiting over a minute. There are only 2 elevators so maybe during peak times the service is slow. Of course very close to the beach, the pool area was nice. Did not eat at the hotel restaurant, we walked down 41st street to get to Walgreens and a few eateries. All in all I had a peaceful stay and I would stay there again.

Look elsewhere

from GRman
This is a run down hotel. Since I have booked this hotel using priorityclub points and essentially getting a free night, I cannot comment on the price/value ratio --- but for those of you paying hundreds of dollars --- look elsewhere!!!!

If you have already read the reviews about dirty small rooms and slow elevators -- it is all true. There must be a problem with old plumbing in this hotel. Upon entering our room (on the 9th) and checking the bathroom, the toilet flush erupted a fountain of water spilling out gallons of water into the room and hallway. A crew emerged 5-10 minutes later, armed with a fan/carpet dryer (obviously not the first time) -- although, nothing could further ruin already worn out carpet and generally musty smell of this hotel.

Upgrade to the 10th floor (had 2 double beds) and next to a "suite" on 11th, a PH (Penthouse?), floor has only proved the obvious state of disrepair and staff's state of denial.

On the plus side, the hotel is overlooking the beautiful beach. It has what look likes a decent size pool. ... and it is a 10 minute cab ride from the south beach night life. Having spent little time inside the hotel, I guess I got what I paid for :)

Wonderful place

My daughter and I stayed at the Holiday Resort October 5th through the 8th. I was very satisfied. I searched many places via the internet before we went to Miami Beach and was very scared to stay at the places within my budget because of the reviews I read, including this hotel. The Holiday has just been renovated and the only thing I had to complain about was a very slow elevator. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was a partial ocean view. The room was kept clean, The beds, especially the pillows, were very comfortable. The windows do not open though. They had a nice restaraunt and wonderful bar staff. Their bar closes at 11pm, but right next door is a bar and grill that's open until about 4 or 5am, and they serve food until close. I loved the pool and tikki bar. You also have access to the neighbor hotel's hot tub and pool. Their were several families with children at this hotel and the surrounding ones. The ocean's right there and provides rentals for chairs and umbrellas. Walgreens is within walking distance. There weren't any surrounding restaraunts, although the bus stop is right there and runs continuously to all surrounding areas. Our luggage was delayed a day, so my daughter and I took the bus to South Beach to shop. I had a wonderful stay at the Holiday Resort and will go back there again.

May want to avoid

Rooms are small. They've tried to upgrade. The walls are paper thin. You will hear your neighbors at all hours of the night., Beds were terrible. Hard mattresses, sunk in the middle. Dated Appointments. The pool is okay, and there is easy access to the beach. You can eat lunch and dinner all day in the bar, which they don't tell you about, you have to ask. Reasonable in the bar. Chicken Caesar is $9, pizza is $9, shrimp Caesar (which is very good) is $10. Bottled water $1.50. They do add a 15% "service charge" to the bill. This goes to the server. The bill does have a spot for "tip", and if you aren't paying attention, can tip twice. They do charge $5.50 for a beer in the lounge, but $3.75 for a beer in the dining area. The dining area is expensive. Breakfast buffet is $12, and I don't think that included coffee, but not sure. The elevators are very slow. The valet was about $20 a day, but is convenient. You can call from your room 5 minutes ahead, and your call will be there.

Try a Mojito If you come to Miami Beach or Miami you need to experience a Mojito, it is a very cool drink. Tasty!

Aventura Mall From nay hotel on Collins Avenue, take the S bus to Aventura. $1.50 and from 34th street you must travel 8 miles......best fare I know.

Dinner in South Beach Ask the bellman about the free limo ride to a particular restaurant in South Beach!
