Good tTime Pool Was Excellent and staff was very nice

This is new foe me as I don't advice any one of what I do , But I had to. today had a great day at the Pool and had a good time last night. Hotel is in a good location on South Beach for great Sun and easy to get to all the great spots on south beach. For the price the Pool and the board walk is worth the money..the Gang loved it all aduls from age 18 to 44 years of age..

What a waste....

What a waste of time. I booked this hotel back in December through Priceline and was extremely excited when I found out I was staying at this hotel. From the website, it looked beautiful. I couldn't believe I get a hotel on the ocean for $83!!! And when I found out the going rate was $209, I thought such a deal!!! I was a little nervous when I saw these reviews, but I just hoped they weren't true...as this was a christmas present to my boyfriend to fly him here and go to the boat show. When we drove up, the valet drivers, whom we couldn't understand, kept saying valet, valet? I didn't know what was going on so I just told him we were checking in. The hotel at that point looked immaculate. The lobby was beautiful! It was 2:30 pm and check-in was 3. They told us the room wasn't ready yet...so I thought, no biggie, I guess...we're early anyways, they have until 3. So, the guy took our car, but followed us all over expecting a tip maybe or something, but I thought...forget that...you are going to MAKE me pay $16 a day to park my car across the street...you aren't getting anymore...sorry. So, we came back at 3:30...she said the room was still not ready!!! Now, I am getting mad, as we only had 3 days in Miami, and most of it was being wasted in this stupid hotel. I said well when is it going to be ready, because we have nothing more we can do but sit in this lobby. Finally, she found us a king-size room at 4pm...one hour AFTER the check-in time. So, we go up to the room (YES, the elevators really ARE horrible!). The room really wasn't that bad, it was nice...but the bathroom SUCKED! You almost felt dirtier after taking a shower! Not only that, but I opened up the shades...and saw the street....I RESERVED AN OCEAN VIEW ROOM!!! But, because it wasn't ready, they stuck me in any old room! DO NOT GO INTO THE BAR (BEACHES) IN THE BASEMENT!!!! OH MY GOD! Service is horrible! It took a half hour to get our salad, and then another half hour after that to get our meal! WHich, by the way was terrible. Cheap spaghetti noodles soaked in butter with 6 little shrimp around the outside of the plate. What a joke. We went to Walgreens before we ate there, and because those horrible waitresses never came by us, we had to dig in our bag and pull out our bottled water to fill up our glasses! The guy next to us said "I was going to order dessert, but my flight leaves tomorrow at 3"...because he sat forever too! To top it off, a guy dragged a garbage bag right past us and out through the front door...a no-no for OSHA, which I will be contacting. So, after complaining on checkout because they wouldn't let us checkout late (But they can take their time checking us in)...I didn't have to pay for the Valet parking. BEWARE...they automatically charge you for some safe...which I didn't even know I had access to!!!

I'd say it is a cozy hotel to stay in and a beautiful ocean view from the hotel.. and the pool is even closer to beach..

Rather Sleep on the beach?

This was not as good as what I consider an "average" Day's Inn. The lobby area is pretty but the doors to areas such as the restaurant and pool are not well marked, and you have to "guess" where you're going. The elevators are antiquated and a little scarey. While we were there, we were told one of them had been programmed to stop on every floor, but my guess is that it stuck in that mode and they didn't know how to fix it right away. The valet parking is a joke - you have to drive up a steep driveway and then your car is parked in a not very well protected lot on the other side of the street. You're better off to take advantage of the free parking at the meters from 6 pm to 6 am if you don't mind getting up early to feed in your coins. If you're in Miami Beach fot the beach, the location is fine - a beautiful stretch of beach and right on the boardwalk. I was thinking that if it had been warm enough, I might have slept on the beach instead of in my room! :-)

Total Dump

I just stayed here 2/4/05 through 2/7/05 and let me tell you this hotel is a total dump. Rooms are dirty and stuffy, you cant open a window, noisy from construction near by, elevators sucked, our power went out at least once or twice a day, bathrooms small and gross, fauced leaked in the tub all day long it drove me crazy, everything about this place was bad. This hotel needs a lot of work and updating. The only good thing about this hotel was the pool and the fact that it was located right on the beach, other than that I would stay away and spend your money elsewhere.

They have stolen my laptop!!

I was here on 2 DIc 2004. I arrive with my car in the hotel, take my luggage ( 2 suitcase and the laptop ) from the car and put them near the income door; come back to the car to close it and when i come back to my luggage the laptop was disappeared! I'm sure the people has stolen my laptop work in the hotel!! I go in the lobby to say to call police and behind me there was a man working in the hotel that don't get me able to go out to view where the people escape with my laptop.

Noise+ Extra Charge Scams

Room was noisy from 7:00 am onward with yappy cleaning staff and plumbing noises throughout.

Hidden charges at the end of the stay were bad faith business practices. When complaining, the desk played "Gothcha" and refuse refunds on innapropriate chrargeson valte and room safe

The restaurant was empty and not serving as best I could tell on a busy weekend. Rather unpleaant next to a smoky bar.

Quite the Dump

My husband and I stayed at this hotel one night before flying home after our cruise. I had orginally wanted to stay at the Sheraton, which is 3 hotels up, but since we had already spent a lot of money decided on this hotel because of price. But you need to beware, you get what you pay for, which is nothing. Although the lobby area is clean and looks nice, the room we were given was a total dump. It was on the 10th floor, smoking and was terrible. Although I smoke and can tolerate a smokey smell, this room reeked. Overall appearance was clean, but when you looked closer you will wonder if the sheets were changed from the last guest. The furniture was old and the nigth stand next to the bed had been exposed to a lot of water at some point was was rotting and falling apart. The carpet was very old and not installed professionally. It was just kind of laid down in the room. Although the hotel was terrible, the staff on the other hand was very helpful with all of our needs. If you have to stay for one night I guess it's tolerable if you don't want to spend a lot of money, but if you plan to spend more than one night, spend the extra money and find a nicer hotel. Your vacation will be much more enjoyable if you do.

Nice Hotel

Ran away for the "Howard Johnson Caribbean Ocean Hotel" and found this one.
Rooms size is great, the closest are huge so we didn't have all the luggage next to the beds (we are family of 5). Unlike the other terrible hotel, the rooms are clean.

The ladies in the front desk are very nice and helpful. The bellboy is very slow and not very helpful.

There is a sport bar in the hotel with pool tables and games.

If you don't mind to pay a little more for better location, check the doubletree hotel surfcomber, the rooms are not as big but still have decent size.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel in January of 2004 for 4 days. We decided on this hotel because of the cost and it's location on the beach. We were not looking for frills, matching furniture was not a concern. The rooms were musty and dingy and it was a shame that they wonderful ocean view was clouded by the filthy windows. The biggest inconvenience during our stay was that the elevators were not operating properly. Well actually one elevator was totally out of commission and the second elevator was possessed and would not stop on floors sequentially. Additionally, the elevators were very small and only 4 or 5 people could fit at one time. Which meant you had to wait for an eternity for the one possessed elevator. My friend and I opted to use the stairs and hike up seven floors. Another concern we had was that were overcharged for the valet parking and getting the staff to cooperate with us was very difficult.

The biggest problem we had with the hotel was not realized until a month after the trip. Both my friend and I were the victims of identity theft. Both of us had several credit cards stolen from our items in the hotel room. Our actual credit cards were still in our wallets, but the information on them were copied (hence not realizing we were victims for a month). The only time that someone would have had the opportunity to go through our purses when we were not there was when we had gone to breakfast or sat out on the beach. Any other time the both of us left the hotel we had our purses with us. We also suspected the thief was at the hotel because a total of five credit cards were stolen between the two of us, and at no other time would a thief have the opportunity to take information from both of us. Of course this matter was reported to Miami Beach police, but the hotel took absolutely no responsibility on this matter.

So word of caution, don't stay at this hotel. If you do, use the $2/night save they are charging you for.

we had a problem with the door of our room, and we couldn't enter our room. we went down and ask the man in desk. He sent us to the man in information.
we tried to talk to him, but he was bussy with a phone call with a friend. after 20 minutes waiting we tried to ask him to stop his conversation for a minute, and he began to shout that he does not intend to help us.
It was terrible.

Horrible hotel with car-destroying valet service

This hotel is definitely the worst hotel that I have ever been to. First, they tell me to label my parking pass in a way that got me a ticket. The second day I went to purchase another ticket now knowing the correct way to scratch out the dates. Guess what? It turns out that they're out of tickets! Great, now I have to pay for their $15.00/day valet service, or insert coins continuously which will cost me $0.25 for fifteen minutes. I paid for the valet because I had no choice. I asked the valet guy if I can drive it in myself because everybody in Miami is an idiot. The guy says no, I bite the bullet and hand over my keys. The next day it was time to leave, I drove a certain amount of time before deciding to refuel. I stop at a gas station, get out of the car, and I see a huge gash on the back of my bumper, exactly where you'd expect it to be after seeing where they park the cars. This is in addition to my car being covered in white paint, but I can take care of that. Now I must deal with them. I plan to write a letter instead of call because that way I can include pictures and hit them harder, kind of surprise them. I still doubt that they will pay for it, though. On top of that little incident, our first hotel room had a broken A/C. We called the hotel, and some guy came to fix it. We asked how long it would take and he says, "Oh, 1 or 2 minutes." He told us they would be sending up another unit to our room right away. Six hours later, still nothing, even after several calls to the front desk. Finally I got pissed and called the desk, they gave me a new room (which was still relatively disgusting) with an ocean view to "make up for the inconvenience" for the same price. I did not care for the ocean view as it was beautified by construction and a random ugly portion of the building that stuck out about 40 meters, making the ocean seem like some sort of landfill. Our new room was relatively cleaner than the previous. That night however, at around 12:40 A.M., some spanish people threw a huge party at the room next to ours and we were forced to call the front desk. Finally somebody came and told them to quiet down. They stopped their loud music, but their idiotic door-slamming continued until about 4:00 A.M.. Overall, I am extremely displeased about this horrible stay, it sort of ruined my entire vacation. I now have more things to deal with among masses of other bullsh*t thanks to this worthless hotel. Stay away from this place at all costs, with enough publicity like this we can run them into the ground.

Top Local Tips for Miami Beach

Bus or Taxi If you want to go to South Beach you can hop on the bus going south on Collins $2.00 5 minutes. You can also catch a cab right in front of the Holiday Inn 1/2 block north and it will cost you about $8.00 each way

Make sure to always find public parking The meters run till midnight...but you can leave them prepaid till whatever time the next day...so if you park at 9pm at a meter you can pay until 11 or noon the next morning...

Fun places to check out While in Miami usually like to visit Dave and Busters A game arcade in either Hollywood Florida, or at the Dolphin Mall. Personally, like the Hollywood location better, seems to have more games and working machines. Get directions for locations and information at Dave and Busters . com Have't tried this out yet myself, but may want to check out Go Cart Track just North of Hollywood location right along interstate. Stopped to find out about it, have specials where you can ride carts and play amusement games for the day, was to late in day this time there to take advantage of special to be worthwile to buy.
