The coolest hotel in South Beach. very Simple, very hip. great breakfast and small restaurant.The rooms are tasteful and smart. two blocks away from the main strip.

Simple but stylish

This boutique hotel is simple but stylish, very laid-back and an excellent value. The owner and manager, Wes, makes sure that guests are comfortable, so you get a lot of personal service. He was very helpful and friendly and had free passes to many of the hottest clubs. My room was quiet, comfortable, and clean. It had a mini-bar, cold AC, and marble bathroom, but no desk. There is free wireless Internet access and complimentary continental breakfast including good coffee. The location is excellent, a block from the beach and a short walk from the heart of SOBE but just far enough away so its not constantly in your face.

Charming elegance

I wish we could stay in this hotel for longer than only 4 nights. The staff was helpful and friendly. Coddy ( I am not sure how to spell her name), the owner's dog created a special feeling: the hotel is more than just a hotel. I loved the chairs outside the hotel facing the street. It was our best spot to relax, watch people and have a cigarrette. The beach is a half of block away; we could rent an umbrella and chairs for $10 each. The breakfast was ok for us: bagles, cream cheese, cereal, oatmeal, orange jouice and coffee. I am not recommending to rent a car while staying in this location: valet parking is $20 a day. In fact, we didn't need a car at all. There is a shuttle bus that rides around South Beach for 25 cents! The hotel is located close to the most popular area in South Beach but far enough to have a good sleep at night. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. I enjoyed the Bath & Body Works watermelon soap. shampoo and conditioner. At night, the beatifully furnished lobby is lighted by scented candles. Visit the hotel's website to find pictures: ----.

Decent Century Hotel by South Beach

The Century Hotel on Ocean Ave. is surprisingly very decent. It is on the more quieter side of the beach, which can be a plus if you want to grab a spot on the beach early in the morning. It's nearby Opium, one of the hottest nightclubs in SoBe. They "busier" part of Ocean Drive is a good walk down; everything else is in a walkable distance. They offer an "ok" continental breakfast (what do you expect? it's free!). Though there's a restaurant right next door, we did not try it; the menu looked expensive. There aren't many restaurants close by, but we found our favorite diner - The Big Pink, which was right around the corner (must try!). We had five girls on this trip and we stayed in a room with two queen beds. It was roomy. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom was quite small, and the shower did not have a door - it has a pane of glass. We flooded the bathroom floor everytime we showered! Overall, it was a very decent stay for a very decent price.

Century Hotel, small but nice!

I visited South Beach, Miami in January of 2005. Having come from another part of Florida my friends and I drove down to South Beach for one night and stayed at the Century Hotel. The Century is considered a boutique hotel, with only 24 rooms. We called that day to make a reservation; it was $118 a night with an AAA rate.
When staying at the hotel it is important to know that it is animal friendly, so do not be surprised to see the managers’ pit- bull roaming the lobby. There are no elevators in the hotel, if you are unable to climb stairs make sure to ask for the first floor.
Not knowing what to expect when we walked into the room, I turned on the light and was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful hard wood floors, complimented the wooden slay beds. The beds are fantastic! Down pillows (which they give you four of) and down comforters grace this small but elegant room. The bathroom was gray marble and has complimentary Bath & Body Works products. The only concern we had was the restaurant next store that played very loud music. It does shut off around 1 a.m.
The hotel offers complimentary breakfast, delivered at either 8:30 a.m. or 1030 a.m. It contains coffee, and an egg croissant. The breakfast was not to my liking, nor my friends. However, there is a Starbucks right across the street!
This hotel does not have a pool, being located on Ocean Drive the beach is across the street. Restaurants are all at walking distance. If you plan on driving down to South Beach, be prepared to pay $20 to valet your car. This is the going rate down there. I’d advise not to drive there but if you have to, pay the $20 once and don’t take your car out until you leave.

Loved The Century Hotel

We came to Sobe for the Cinco de Mayo celebrations and found Century Hotel to be cozy, comfortable, and affordable. Why pay the high prices and deal with the noise when you can pay a reasonable rate and still enjoy all the peaks for this time of the year! The beach is right across the street and the action just starts three blocks away! From Wet Willie's to Clevelander, to Mango's. Everyone at the hotel was great! If you can get three nights for under 270.00 you're golden. I guarantee you won't spend that much time in any hotel room.

The owner and the stafff where great. Owner takes time to make sure you have everything you need and that you are happy. Parking is a little more than other hotels in the area.

Overrated/Nice staff

Staid there in February for three days. The room was dirty with coffee stain on the phone and several unidentifiable stains in the bathroom. Nothing to hang the worn-out towels on. The toilet flush was broken and repaired upon request. Would I recommend it ? There are other, better hotels in SoBe for the same or less. The Century has lost of lot of the charme during the past 10 year and looks to me run-down.

Great Shower, Great Bed

If you can get a good deal, as we did on Hotwire, this is a great place to stay. Sure, it's not in the thick of South Beach (it's a good ten blocks south of the action), but that's a good thing if you want to actually sleep at night. The restaurant downstairs is a big scene anyway so you can have your cake and eat it too. As someone else pointed out, the beach is right across the street and it is much less crowded than further up. The great things about the actual room are the down pillows and comforter on the beds, and the bathroom. I was initially disappointed to have a shower and no tub, and to see that the shower had no door or curtain! It sounds crazy, but somehow, it works. And the water pressure is not to be believed. I think I spent half my vacation in the shower! The owner of the Century (forgot his name) is very nice and accommodating. This should not really be considered a 3 star hotel, but if you get a deal, it's worth it!

This hotel was very clean, the staff was very friendly, and the location was perfect.
The La Joia restaurant is among the best restaurants in south beach. The hotel serves a free continental breakfast.
On Saturday, our breakfast was delivered to our room, complementary of the hotel’s management.
I highly recommend this hotel

This hotel has really gone downhill over the past few years. Our room was dirty and small. We paid to park our car in the lot next door and our rental was towed and the hotel staff pretty much did nothing.

Top Local Tips for Miami Beach

Getting around there is no good way to get to & from the Ft Lauderdale Airport. We took a shuttle from the airport & it took forever. We took a taxi back for about 100 bucks for 4 people with tip it was the deal. Public transportation goes to the airport. I might try it next time if I arrive early.

Florida Keys If you're on South Beach, and just want to hang out on the beach, stay there! Driving to the Keys is a waste of time unless you plan to get on a charter to snorkle or dive...which is beautiful water for that. Be prepared to shell out some $. But, if the coastline is your thing, the only real beach in the Keys for kids and family to spend time with sand & surf would be Key West, which is quite a drive. South Beach and the coast Northward is perfectly fine, we're just saying this to save people some drive time.

Consider Flying into Fort Lauderdale If you're renting a car anyway, you may also want to be sure to look at flying into Fort Lauderdale (FLL). It's about 40-45 minutes north of South Beach - a fairly easy drive with no traffic. In the cities I routinely fly out of, it has generally been much cheaper to fly into FLL versus MIA. For the cost concious traveler, that may make a huge difference. I saved about $200 on my ticket flying to FLL from CA.
