Very Good Location

Took my wife to South Beach for our anniversary, and I wanted to stay at one of the "real" Art Deco hotels that everyone associates South Beach with. And I wanted to stay on budget. I was very happy with our room; overall I think it was very worth the money. A little bit run down but Great bed, surprised by comfy sheets, AC worked great, hotel staff was eager to meet our every need. I paid an up charge for a "Superior Room", but probably wouldn’t next time.. But for the small up charge each night, I wasn’t upset enough to ask for another room. Overall, I would recommend this hotel highly if you’re looking to experience the real Art Deco South Beach, with location in mind, everything was within walking distance.

Ok for the price but not great

Good things: Interesting decor in lobby and rooms. Rooms were clean and neat. Free internet access. Fridge in room. Close to Ocean Drive and Lincoln shopping. Small hotel parking lots which i guess was lucky to have in south beach seeing the parking situation there.

Problems:
Hotel room was facing Collins St so it was pretty noisy all night, lots of yelling and honking outside up to 3 a.m. so it was hard to get to sleep. Pool was not heated. No set pool hours...dawn to dusk?

We specified that 4 adults were staying in one room but both nights we stayed there we only received enough towels for 2 adults. AFter requesting more towels over the phone onthe last morning towels came after 1.5 hours of waiting.

Not alot of light in the room. Only one small lamp near the phone table. We got the rest of our lighting from the closet and the bathroom. Not very good for those wanting to read guide books and such in the evening in order to plan next day activities.

Otherwise, alright hotel if you're on a budget. ~ $90-100 USD a night for 4 adults.

Worst Hotel Experience Ever

I'm glad the previous guest enjoyed their stay, but my time at the Carlton was probably the worst hotel experience I've ever had. I was also in town for Art Basel and though the location was great , wireless Internet was included and it was one of the few hotels that didn't require a four night minimum, the rate they charged was absolutely outrageous. Allegedly, the hotel has recently undergone a "multi-million dollar renovation" it amounts to nothing more than a series of Trading Spaces-style make-overs for the guest rooms and lobby with a few cans of paint and some Ikea furniture. From a broken phone to a door that wouldn't lock to pre-war era elevator to the less-than-helpful front-desk staff, it was horrible from start to finish.

it is unbelievable what some people think they can do with a little bit of orange paint on the wall, and a few tricks of the same kind. basically, this hotel is completely run down. i tried two rooms, equally horrible. paint chips, linens made of polyester, bad pillows, bad beds. NO, NO, NO service, and at 325$ a night, one would at least think one could order coffee to be brought to the room. try to get a fax sent to your room... this place's a complete disaster.
for the same $325 a night, go to the surfcomber (a doubletree property) and you'll get real cotton sheets, a proper bed, and even a pleasant swimming pool. and its on the beach (carlton is NOT).
sorry, but i do not see why being in south beach should translate into being abused, just because one wants to be in walking distance of where things happen (in this case, the conference center, where the Art Basel Miami Beach was taking place)no wonder it's not in the recommended hotels.

Nothing Except Location

Only good thing about this hotel is the location. Very Close to the beach. Except that there is nothing plus its additionally rip-off

1> There is absolutely no furniture in the room. Its looks so low class.
2> There is a small space inside the room where the fridge and the cofee machine is located. It so dingy, you wouldnt even feel to enter it
3>They charge $15 a day for Parking, if you manage to find a parking space available. Most of the times you wont fine one
4> Addiontally they will charge $5 for the resort fees
5>No complimentary Breakfast, Its charged for $6 per person.

There are lot of other hotels near to this. I bet they will be the better option

Loved South Beach!!

I stayed at the Carlton for a girls weekend for Miami Carnival. The hotel is still going through some renovations so the fresh paint smell is quite strong. However, the hotel staff was quite helpful and made sure to give us lots of towels as we requested them! The hotel is just 2 minutes from the beach! You're also quite close to Ocean's Drive which gives you access to a lot of the nightlife. It's no luxury hotel but I would definitely stay there again for the price!

GREAT LOCATION!

Aside from a great price and standard accomadations (big comfy beds, complimentary beach towels and chairs, great pool), the Carlton is in the PERFECT South Beach location. It's right in the middle of all the great neighborhoods and is only a block away from the beach. If you're looking for room service and spa treatments this probably isn't for you, but any young traveler should seriously consider this place, it's exactly what you want from South Beach.

Carlton is great if you like 3AM wake up calls!

Well, we stayed at the Carlton for one night, and it was HORRIBLE. The room was small, which was ok, but it just got worse from there. At 3AM, yes THREE AM, the maintenance guy was doing room work next to us using power tools. Yes, POWER TOOLS at 3AM!! You have got to be kidding me. I called the front desk, busy. I had to get dressed and go downstairs and complain. They called the guy and he stopped, but there is no excuse for doing work like that at 3AM with a full hotel. I got 20% off the room for our troubles. Great, no sleep and we got 20% off. I asked for a manager and of course nobody was there. Shocker.

Then when we finally got back to bed again the A/C made so much noise we had to turn it off, and it was HOT that night.

I would never stay there again with all the problems we had from the 3AM wake up call by hotel staff to the poor room conditions and smell.

This place was terrible. The lobby was beautiful and the photos very misleading. Our room smelled terrible like mold and the closet had had a water leak that was not cleaned up all the way. The shower was moldy and felt dirty so we wore our shoes while showering. The rooms and the rest of the building are in need of some major renovations as everything felt old and seemed as though it was barely holding on. I waited over 15 minutes for someone to show behind the desk so that we could check in and they charged us for three daus of parking even though we only stayed for two nights. And then, we had to park in the back of the building and walk up an alley to get to the front. Our parking space left the end of our rental car hanging out into the alleyway. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and feel that it was a waste of money.

A simple but nice hotel. Clean and friendly, nothing noteworthy. I booked it on orbitz and was given room 126. The people walking along side the hotel at night can become loud.

Top Local Tips for Miami Beach

Don't drive If you can help it, don't take your car to Miami Beach. Take a taxi, or ride a bike, or rent a scooter, or something. Miami Beach is for people who like to walk!

Eat here! Lincoln Road Must eat out here. Not just for the food. The experiance. People watching. its great

Location Location Location! You definetly want to stay in South Beach on Ocean Drive or Collins! But closer to Ocean Drive! That would put you in walking distance to most anything! Plus there is awesome shopping and resturants on Lincon Street!
