Awful!

This hotel has gone downhill and quickly. A new owner is converting it to a condo-hotel and is simply ruining it. The planned and promised improvements aren't happening and they obviously don't care about hotel guests - only people buying their condos. Our visit last week was a disaster and the staff, who is usually very helpful, looked bewildered at the construction going on in the lobby and had no answers for us as to why we were not informed in advance of such a project. We would have NEVER stayed at the hotel if we knew this was going to be taking place. When I approached the young man who I was told was the owner he didn't give me the time of day and said "I could f*^%$#! leave if I didn't like it". Well, we checked-out the next morning and will never be back. If you are thinking of going to South Beach, DON'T stay at the Tides. It's simply awful and being run into the ground.

Lackluster service at a fading hotel....

Supposedly one of the premier hotels in South Beach, this hotel fell far from the mark. The hotel itself seems to be fading into the sunset - the gym was closed, the hotel was in the process of being repainted, which resulted in tape and wet paint signs everywhere. The furniture in the lobby was dingy and in need of a cleaning as well.

When we attempted to get a hold of the restaurant, the line simply rang off the hook. The maid service was slow. The staff had little or no useful information about the surrounding area - they couldn't even point us in the right direction to find the newspaper stand only blocks away. In addition, they were aloof and disengaged during our entire stay. It was as if we were putting them out by staying there. The final point of contention was the INCREDIBLY poor service on the beach. The best attraction in Miami Beach is the beach, and the hotel screwed that up. The first day we went down to the beach, we were told we were there too late and the lounges had all been taken. The second day, we were told we were "lucky" that there were two left and then given a hard time when we attempted to move them closer to our friends.

The staff was aloof and not interested in making our stay enjoyable, and at times they were hostile.

If you want a luxurious time in South Beach, this is not the place to find it...

We stayed at the Tides 3/28-31 and found it to be spot on. The rooms are big, all face the ocean, and the beds are comfortable. White decor, plasma TV, excellent room service. The front patio is a great place to dine (a bit pricey) - the food is good and the people watching is lively. Hotel currently gives passes to the Crunch Gym 2 blocks away which we also found to be excellent. The pool is quiet and secluded behind the hotel - a nice place to hang out. The beach is wide, the water was warm enough and the Hotel arranges for chair and umbrella service with no hassle. The whole Art Deco area is fun and lively with great restaurants and shops and the Tides puts you right in the middle of it. High marks for the kind staff. Highly recommended.

Great Hotel

Had a 3 night stay at the Tides mid February this year, lovely hotel with very good service. Although our room wasnt ready when we arrived (around 6pm) they did provide us with complimentary drinks in the bar until it was so this was soon forgotten!. All the staff we meet were extremely pleasant and only to happy to help. The bar staff and concierge were especially pleasant. Attention to detail in the rooms is very good, nice big beds and very well equipped. We ate Breakfast at the hotel each morning, service and food both faultless. Wireless internet is provided free of charge throughout the hotel.

As with most establishments in Miami Beach it has become the norm that a tip of between 15 and 20% is included on your bill. Be careful of this because in our experience they didn't point this out and were only to happy to take double tips!!. Drinks and food at the hotel are expensive but taking into consideration the standard of the hotel it is only to be expected.

Overall I wouldnt rush back to Miami Beach but if I did the Tides would be top of my list for accomodation.

We went to south beach to have some fun and that's exactly what we did at the Tides. It was perfectly located and made everything very easy for us. The hotel is a slice of Miami's history and beautifully done.

All in all a great hotel...

We came up to Miami from St. Martin especially to go to the Design District to get some design ideas for the expansion of our hotel. We chose to stay one night at The Tides and then one night at The Shore Club. The staff at The Tides (Mark especially) could not have been nicer or more accomodating. We were not totally impressed, nor inspired by the rooms but the hotel in general was top notch. Great Thymes ammenities! We mentioned to Mark that the reason for our stay was to get some ideas and he swiftly mentioned that they were due for renovations and that all of the bathrooms were to be redone this year. They do not nickel and dime you every time you turn around, i.e. internet was complimentary, bottled water by the door etc... we appreciate that. The room was pricey, $440 for the night + tax + parking but after The Shore Club it seemed like a bargain! 1220 (their restaurant) was superb and the manager of the restuarant is from Boston and very nice. Let me finish with, after checking in to The Shore Club and getting totally ripped off, we were kicking ourselves that we didn't stay at The Tides both nights. Being in the business myself, I can absolutely reccommend this property.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel the first week of March 05, had a great time. The hotel is nicely decorated and the service is good. As its an older hotel, not everything is brand new and in some aspects could require some minor renovations (i.e. carpets in the room).

Breakfast on the terrace and location is excellent

If you are looking for a higher end hotel that is a bit more on the quiet side (without hundreds of people parading through th lobby at all hours), this is the hotel for you. We found it ideal as we could go to dinner and party it up in the evenings elsewhere and come back to a quiet hotel room afterwards.

For the $$$, somewhat disappointed. The rooms are spacious, but worn. The same dirt was on the bathroom floor the entire stay; it made us feel like the room was never clean. No one at the front desk (during the week days) seemed to care, although other hotel staffers were very friendly and accomodating. Food service was hit or miss, mostly miss; air conditioning issues, internet issues, television issues; none of it major, but below expectations.

Booked at the Tides Hotel for a business trip based on the book "1000s Places To See Before You Die" and understand why it is there.

Brought my wife to escape the New England winter and it was a wonderful stay. Beautiful rooms with perfect views of the beach/ocean, quiet, attentive service and great location in South Beach.

The food at 1220 was excellent.

We stayed there for New Year's eve! The place is superb! The staff was happy to meet and greet me (called me by my last name), decor was untra trendy, restaurant and bar were 5-star!

Best hotel in SOBE! We already booked a room for when we come back in March!

Top Local Tips for Miami

The Loews! The Loews was a fantastic hotel! I recommend it! It was clean and had a fantastic swimming pool and location was fantastic!

Car Parking We used valet parking which was $32 per day. There is a municipal car park in the next block which charges around $15 per day. Would suggest using this or dont take a car. Taxis are plentiful and very reasonable. Walking around South Beach is easy and felt very safe. A very friendly environment.

car parking We used the municiple car park and displayed my UK disabled people's parking badge. Like in some areas in the UK we were ably to park for free by filling in a form and showing some ID.
