one night was enough

Left after 1 night because there air conditioning system was loud..the sound of it turning on and off kept waking us up. This would probably not bother most but I am a light sleeper. The staff was very nice and friendly and the room was cute and quiet otherwise.

Good Location

We stayed at the Blue Moon for 1 night on 1/23/04 before a cruise ship vacation. I had never been to South Beach before and thought it best to stay right there over downtown to experience a little of the flava. The hotel itself was very charming from the outside with the courtyard area and all. The hotel staff were nice enough, I guess. However, we did go with another couple and we purposely made our reservations at the same time thinking we'd get rooms fairly close together. NOT. The other couple were put on the first floor in another building. We were put on the 2nd floor in the other building, but had to use elevator in main building to get there. We didn't ask to change rooms or anything, but it was a tad inconvenient. Oh well.

The room itself was very small. I think the cabin in our cruise ship was since we had a balcony cabin, we definitely had a better view. Our hotel room view was of the building 2 feet away from our window. Not that we stayed in the room very long.

We explored and had a great time in South Beach, but I am glad we were only there 1 night. A whole week would have been too long in those cramped quarters for me. Also, we paid almost $200 for that 1 night, which I understand is for location, but we are from the midwest and used to $50 hotel bills, so this is sticker shock for us.

All in all, the hotel was ok, and as I don't have any other south beach hotels to compare it too, I'm not really sure if it was a "deal" or a "steal", but I am glad I got to see South Beach once. Probably wouldn't stay there again.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Blue Moon from January 5-11, 2004, and we had a great time, to say the least! We arrived at the hotel at about 12:30PM, before the normal check-in time, but our room was ready.
The check-in process was quick and easy, and by 12:45 we were in our room. The room itself was small, but from what I had read that was to be expected in South Beach. There was no wonderful view to speak of, however, we weren't planning to spend our week in South Beach looking out our hotel window! The walk-in closet made things a little less cramped, so space was never really an issue. The room was nicely furnished, basically how it looks on the website. It had the usual ammenities: TV, CD Player, iron, hair dryer, robes, etc. The toiletries the hotel provided were unusually high quality, and I must admit hording a few for future vacations! Like the room, the bathroom was a bit small, but not really a problem; it served its function just fine.
The only minor complaint I would have about the room is that the air conditioner was a bit loud, although it never woke us up, but you could not miss it when it was on. The location of the Blue Moon could not have been better. It was a block from the beach and a few blocks from anywhere you'd want to go in South Beach. It's also a block away from an Electrowave shuttle stop which can make getting around South Beach relatively easy and cheap (a ride is only 25 cents). All in all, the Blue Moon was a great find and I would definitely stay there again.

Our stay in the Blue Moon Hotel in January 2004 was wonderful! The rooms are so tasteful decorated you almost feel at home! And the staff is very friendly, especially the concierge. We will come back!

Stayed at the Blue Moon for the third time in December 2003 - and loved it! Wonderfull room, friendly staff and perfect location. Just off Ocean Drive, in the middle of all the action - and quiet! Whenever we return to Miami, we will stay there again!

Wonderful Hotel

We stayed at the Blue Moon Hotel for 3 nights. The room was not huge, but it accomadated us fine. The staff was very friendly and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was great. The room, bathroom and the inside of the hotel were decorated very nice. The location was perfect. We were so close to the stores, beach, and restaurants. Overall, we had no complaints. We really enjoyed our stay at the Blue Moon Hotel and we would definitely go back in a heartbeat. The hotel made our vacation a better one!

Great small Hotel

My wife and I stayed here in November 2003 for 2 nights. The Blue Moon offered great value, the rooms although small are nicely decorated and the hotel is quiet. Everything is withing walking distance. Buffet breakfast was good and reasonably priced. I would definately go back.

Nice Hotel

We stayed at the Blue Moon for 2 nights in December 2003. Room was 18x11 and nicely decorated. Bathrobes were provided in the closet and were for sale if desired. The pool is small but well maintained. One tip I will give is to skip their continental breakfast for $6.95, not much to offer and should be free. The room was quiet but close enough to the beach and clubs. We would have no reservations about staying here again.

There was an Italian Restaurant downstairs that opened 3 months earlier; we did not eat there however. They are open after 6:30 PM for dinner.

Great Hotel in South Beach

We stayed 3 nights at the Blue Moon Hotel. The room and surrounding environment were all very clean. The hotel staff was very friendly and efficient. When asked for a restaurant recommendation, the desk help suggested a place that was a great dining experience for us. The location of the hotel is great because you are within easy walking distance of all the Ocean Avenue activities, and centrally located so you can easily get to either end of Ocean Avenue without much walking.
We had a room in the rear of the hotel, and it was very quiet during the evening hours. Looking at some of the other hotel options in the area, I feel like we picked a very clean and ideally located hotel, for a very reasonable price.

Not even good for a good nights sleep!!!

I was visiting Miami for the first time last weekend, and wasn't sure where to stay. I checked this site, and saw the rave reviews for the Blue Moon, so I decided to book a room with them. I searched all the sites, and they all said that the hotel was sold out on the first night of our stay in Miami, but available the second night. I went to cheaptickets and they actually had a room available for both nights! However, my gut instinct told me to only book one night there, and book the other night at the Clinton since the Clinton had availability for the SAME price the second night, but was $500 for the first night. Glad I did!!!Check in process at the hotel was average. It took the guy a while to find our reservation. I'd say it took about 10 minutes total to check in, so not bad. He was okay, not overly friendly, not overly rude, just average. After we checked into the hotel, we made the mistake of taking the elevator up to our room. The elevator was extremely scarry. It has 2 doors that you have to open, the first a black iron gate, then then the main door to the elevator. Both of them appeared to be MANUAL opening, but after we opened them, one of the doors just slammed shut on us as we were loading our bags into the elevator. The elevator was creaky and made wierd noises! SKIP THE ELEVATOR AND TAKE THE STAIRS, no matter how many bags you have. I was rather disapointed that the hotel spent all this money remodeling, but couldn't afford to replace the elevator!!!When we got to our room and opened the door I about passed out. The room was the smallest hotel room I've ever seen in my life. It reminded me of a baby's room in a house. You know how the parents always stick the baby in the smallest room. Well this one was definately small, and the beds?? WHAT A JOKE! These beds were smaller then twin sized beds, and the matresses on the beds were paper thin. You could feel all the springs sticking up through the matresses. I am not fat by any means, but I could barely fit my body on the bed, it was so small. How did I sleep? NOT AT ALL!!! The bed was so uncomfortable, I tossed and turned the entire night!!! I expect if I am paying 100+ a night for a hotel room that I am at least going to get a comfortable bed and have a good nights rest. Not in this place.So, what are the plusses of this hotel? I gave it 3 dots because the hotel was extremely clean, tastefully decorated, and I loved the bathrooms in the room! The bathroom was small, but it is very tastefully recorated. The tub/shower combo was extremely clean with no mold or mildew in site, which is unusual for hotel bathrooms, usually they are really nasty even at the nice hotels. The water pressure was very good, and the tub drained well. There was a nice array of bath/body products in the bathroom, and they had some aromatherapy crystals in this little basin on top of the toilet that made the bathroom smell real nice. Plus, the bathroom had a window that opened all the way to let all the steam out! The minus? No A/C in the bathroom, so it got really hot after taking a shower in there.Air conditioning worked great, and kept the room at a very comfortable temperature. The windows opened ALL THE WAY UP which was really refreashing, considering most hotels do not let you open the windows all the way. The TV in the room worked really well, the remote did not. The CD/clock radio was a nice touch and actually sounded really good to enjoy our favorite CD's while we were in the room. They had bottles of water in the room, which in the description of the hotel it sounded like they were free, but don't be deceived. Underneith the "for you to enjoy" tag that is strapped to the botel there is in much smaller print, a very fine $4.50 price tag on that bottle of water, so beware of the overpriced water!! I got me a huge bottle of water (about 3x the size) at the convenience store down the street for 2 bucks. We also had a mini bar in the room, but it was locked, and they did not give us a key. From reading other reviews of the hotel, aparently they charge your card $50 for the key and then credit it back after you check out, so I didn't bother.Concierge services at this hotel sucked. It took forever to get service, and when the guy finally did ask me if I needed some help, he couldn't help me. I asked him for directions to the homestead miami speedway, and he didn't even know what that was. He didn't have any map, and he couldn't even tell me how to get on the freeway to go south to homestead. If figured that the concierge would at least have a good map, and a good sense of directions, but not this guy.Parking? Forget it. They supposedly have valet parking, but there were cars parked around the entire block, so obviously there was no place for us to stop and get out of the car. We found a garage a block down from the hotel that was $15 to park there. The funny thing about the garage is that they actually change the prices. At one point it was $20 flat-rate to park the car for 24 hours. At another point, we saw it as low as $10, but when we got there it was $15.Overall, I say this hotel definately does not deserve the ratings it receives. The facilities are nice, the lobby is nice, and the free newspaper is a nice touch. The patio in the front of the hotel is really nice for relaxing and enjoying a drink. But with the uncomfortable beds, the service we received, and the lousy elevator, I would not stay at this hotel again.

Top Local Tips for Miami

Beware, they add gratuity!!! Not every restaurant does, but about 80% of the ones we went to do. Don't tip on top of the amount they put. You can cross that amount out and add your own amount, but the thing I want to warn you about, is tipping twice. Heaven knows the customer service on Miami Beach is non-exsistent and tipping twice would be a major disappointment. They do it because there are so many people who don't tip, so they are looking to get a tip from them without them noticing and to also get these double-tippers from unexpected morons like me.

front desk Front desk persons should speak ENGLISH clearly and in a tone the average person can hear.

Ocean Drive Dining Specials If you walk down Ocean Drive on the weekends, there are hundreds of people dining fabulously on the sidewalks. If you do the same thing during the week, you'll see the same thing but they will be paying half-price on their meals. Almost all the swank places had hawkers during the week announcing that everything on the menu was half-priced. So, wait until Tuesday to try the rock crab.
