Excellent: but you pay for it

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you are deciding to stay here, then you are already willing to accept the price. With that out of the way, My wife and I had a wonderful experience at the hotel. The staff was very attentive and we had no problems. The pool was a bit small and warm but we were really at the beach most of the day. The hotel is basically on the beach and very close to some very good (albeit expensive) eating establishments.

The hotel is a $28 set cab fare from MIA and walking distance to most popular spots.

Would probably stay here again but would love to stay at a bit lower price.

Exceptional. On Ocean Drive (the main drag of South Beach), but a few blocks away from all the crowds and noise. So you have easy walking access to all the restaurants and shops and clubs, etc., with peace and quiet and a little more privacy, Plus, at this part of South Beach, the hotels are actually ON THE BEACH. Most of the other hotels in South Beach, and on other parts of Ocean Drive, are actually across the street from the beach. Since the Marriott is on the beach, you can walk out the back door of hotel, past the pool, directly on to the beach, only about 50 yards from the ocean! They have cocktail waitresses who serve drinks and food on the beach, towell and chaise lounge guys on the beach, etc. You wont find this at most hotels on South Beach. In addition, the rooms are a lot larger, and more comfortable, than most hotels on South Beach, many of which have tiny rooms. GREAT PLACE.

Nice Hotel, Great Location

I just returned from 3 nights at the south Beach Marriott. 10/1-10/4. The Hotel was very nice and very well decorated, especially for a beach hotel.
The staff was plesent and willing to make your stay as comfortable as possible. But the best part of the trip was the location, just a 7 minute walk from all the action but just far enough away to get a good nights sleep. The fact that there are tons of beautiful women everywhere doesn't hurt either. Make sure you spend the extra money and get the oceanfront view. It is also the perfect place if you like the schoopa like Alberto Tonga.

One of the best hotels i've ever stayed, great staff, great location (seconds from the beach) Rooms immaculate. If you choose this hotel the extra $20 per night for ocean view are well worth it. 10/10

Fantastic Location: Extra friendly staff

My husband and two daughters of 17 and 20 stayed here in July 2004 after travelling from Surrey, England. We had throughly researched all hotels on South Beach and were let down at the last minute by the company we had asked to book us into the Delano which was very disappointing. We were however delighted with our choice of the Marriot Hotel and after walking past the Delano which is situated on a much busier road pleased we had not stayed there. The location was excellent and only a 10 minute walk to the main Deco Area. We asked for rooms with an Ocean View and were given two; my daughters had a room with the largest balcony at no extra cost. Although the pool was a little on the small side it was clean and only a 2 minute walk to the Ocean. The rooms were decorated in a lovely Mediterrean style and quite spacious. We enjoyed our healthy breakfasts in the morning and would definetely reccommend the hotel .

Awesome - will be back!!!

My husband and I stayed at the South Beach Marriott in June. I spent a lot of time researching the hotels in SOBE and am thrilled that I was right in my decision to stay at the South Beach Marriott. Everything about the hotel was perfect. The staff was exceptionally friendly, courteous and made us feel right at home. We stayed on the Concierge level, which provided a spectacular ocean view room with a huge terrace to sit and relax. The room was tastefully decorated in Art Deco. The Marriott has the best bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. The Concierge lounge served breakfast in the morning, hot hors d’oeuvres and dessert in the evening and provided unlimited soda, coffee, water, etc. all day long. The lounge had a television to watch while you’re eating with a terrace on each side of the lounge to enjoy the outdoors, if you choose with ocean & city view - you can even see the cruise ships docked at the Miami port. It may cost a little more to stay on the Concierge Level but it was worth it. On the main floor, there is a spa and gym with all new equipment for your workout. There is a full service restaurant/bar with an outside terrace to enjoy the view of the ocean. Parking at the hotel is valet (almost all the hotels have valet parking) and I was very impressed how quickly they got our car – the wait was no longer than 5 minutes. Outside, as you walk towards the pool there is a huge sitting area for those who want to sunbathe but not be too close to the pool. The outdoor pool is heated (but not overheated like some pools I’ve been in before) with a little waterfall in the corner. There is also a hot tub to relax in. The pool desk provides all types of floats for their guests. As you go down the stairs towards the ocean, there is a quiet area with several hammocks and lounge chairs to enjoy a good book. What I really like about the South Beach Marriott is that the hotel has a private entrance to the beach. The hotel does not provide beach chairs or umbrellas, those you would have to rent. The rental is very reasonable and the lounge chairs have thick cushions which make the chairs very comfortable. If you are interested in going to any of the clubs in SOBE, the Concierge provides either passes or puts you on the guest list for the popular clubs in the area. Many clubs have dress codes they strictly adhere to (men need pants with dress shoes, collar shirts, no sandals, sneakers or tank tops; women need to get dressed up for the clubs with the stricter dress code), but other clubs (like Mangos and Wet Willies) let you dress casual. Cover charges in SOBE range from 10-25 per person. The South Beach Marriott is at the very end of Ocean Drive, close enough to walk to the clubs/restaurants but far away enough to get a good night’s sleep (the clubs/restaurants are open all night with loud music blaring until the sun comes up). You will really enjoy the South Beach Marriott.

I just got back from the trip, and decided to write this review for it could help others in search for the right hotel. Marriot was an amazing experience. We stayed on concierge level, and were upgraded to an oceanfront room. Staff was extremely helpful and accomodating. Concierge level has a lot of advantages (pay a little more but get a lot more); complex breakfast, hor'doerves, dessert, and unlimited supply of water and soft drinks during the day- all complimentary (a lot of money goes on these in Miami). Location is perfect, but we still got a car, because it's just too hot to walk and enjoy SoBe. Pool was a lot better than we expected according to some reviews; they even serve complimentary ice-cream and smoothies all day long.
I didn't want to leave, it was so great. My boyfriend and I were very happy with everything, we also got a lot of points from this 7-day stay, which we're going to use next summer at the same hotel.

Great Hotel

Perfect

We stayed during the Winter Music Conference in March this year. I can honestly say that the hotel was perfect in every way. We stayed on the concierge level (top floor) and really enjoyed the facilities on offer. The hotel staff are very friendly, polite and not pushy. The location is great, on Ocean Drive yet in a quiet location. The pool isn't huge but is sufficient and the beach excellent.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for good value, upmarket accomodation with no attitude. We will be back next year !!

the marriott south beach rocked!

from nantaska
March,2004 and we just returned from a week's stay at the marriott. At first when we arrived our room was not made up for us. When we entered the room, empty bottles were on the desk and newspapers were on the bed and you could see that the room had not been cleaned. We complained to the bellman who had just brought up our luggage and my husband went down to the front desk to ask for another room. They immediatly sent up someone from housekeeping and cleaned our room. They all were very apologetic and asked if there was anything else we needed. We ordered an empy refrigerator and they immediatly sent one up. We absolutely loved the conceirge floor with the continental breakfast, hor'doerve hour at night and evening coffee and dessert. There was only one complaint and that was that they didn't have any umbrellas the night that it rained. You would think a hotel of that high standard could atleast provide an umbrella for the guest to borrow. The bellman said they used to provide them but the guests never returned them so they didn't provide that service any longer. But on the whole, I would highly recommend this hotel as far as the hospitality and service goes.
Have fun and enjoy!

Remember that half an inch on the map is $50 in the taxi We were told that Aventura Mall was the place to go for the best variety of shopping. Maybe it is. But it took us nearly an hour and $55 cab fare to get there by the shortest route and 35 minutes and $52 to return by the quickest.

Renting Cars in FL I used http://www.rentalcarmomma.com for reserving my car with Dollar. I was a little skeptical because of the very low rates I got thru this website...but it worked out fine

Cheap eats for families Puerto Sagua on Collins near 7th--Cuban Diner open til 2am, huge portions, homemade taste. Hope you speak a little spanish! Big Pink--on Collins and 2nd--huge menu, open 5am-2am, good desserts, more huge portions, big drinks. Avoid: China Grill--pricey, dark and loud, also Avoid: Hudson News--it's good, but not worth waiting in line for!
