Historical Traveller Reviews of Sagamore Hotel
Sagamore was great!!
from seluj07Overall A Great Time
from advertguyDisappointing 2nd Time at the Sagamore
from A TripAdvisor MemberOur room was a lighting disaster. We had no lights at all in the bedroom. The clock in the bedroom did not work. The lights in the sitting area did not work either except for a couple of small spotlights. There were wires hanging out of the ceiling in the sitting area. There was also no working light in the toilet area. Someone from maintenance had come by our room and said he would be back with some lamps but never came back. Since we were only there for one night and spent little time in the room, we didn’t make a huge deal out of it.
Our room also had no curtains. Just curtain liners but not the lovely curtains that should have been hanging.
My other complaint is about the pool. There was no one out there with towels or at the bar at all. There is a walkway that now runs along the back of the hotels on South Beach. Convenient to walk on but it really cuts into the privacy factor of the pool with streams of people walking by and looking in. The Sagamore needs to erect a tall fence and plant some shrubs as the other hotels have.
This time around was really disappointing for the amount of money that we spent to stay here.
The Sagamore Rocks!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThey must have worked out their kinks at the pool (mentioned in previous reviews) since the women who handed out towels and covered the lounge chairs were on top of everything for our party of 11, which is not an easy feat! The service at the pool was a bit slow -- but we didn't need to consume drinks any faster. The cookies at the pool were a big hit and a welcome surprise. Florian, the concierge, was incredibly helpful to us in making dinner reservations each night.
The location can't be beat. The walk-in pool was great for other guests with kids. The walkway behind the hotel along the ocean was very convenient. The Sagamore is convenient to all of the nighttime hotspots.
Stay at the Sagamore next time you're in South Beach. You won't be disappointed!
This Hotel is a Disaster
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe had no hand towels or wash clothes for two days. Housekeepng never answered the phone and the front desk was unable to rouse housekeeping.
The spare bed for our daughter was only occassionly prepared.
I feel like I was mugged considering the cost of a room and the service they delivered (or didn't deliver.)
Stay Away!
Great time!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe pool was really warm and the entire staff was friendly and attentive. I loved that the beach was right by the hotel. Dec 20 was really cold and windy. The 21st was a little warmer, but very cloudy. The 22nd was gorgeous and we sat at the beach all day. The staff puts cushions on the lounge chairs and covers the cushion with a fitted terry cloth towel. We even had our own cabana. The beach is really nice and wide by the Sagamore. The Ritz borders the Sagamore to the south and National and then Delano to the north. I liked the sidewalk/boardwalk between the hotels and the beach. The location is PERFECT. Lincoln Road Mall is just a short walk. Ocean Drive is also a few blocks away. I was really glad that we didn't stay on Ocean Drive. Too busy for us.
My favorite eating spot was the NEXXT Cafe on Lincoln Road. The portions are huge, the tables are outside, and the food great. We also liked Pizza Rustica - gourmet pizza by the slice.
This was definitely our favorite location for a beach vacation. It was like a beach/city vacation all in one. Something for everyone. We expected to feel out of place, but there were a lot of families there. We all had a great time.
Great Hotel, Great Stay
from Chicago_chic79Pretty great place with only one flaw
from A TripAdvisor MemberAfter reading reviews we were a bit apprehensive about the Sagamore but our stay turned out pretty well. The rooms were clean, there was always a stash of fresh towels at the pool and the help was friendly. The beach chairs are amazing and for that reason alone we would return to the Sagamore.
Our only complaint was that the place seemed to be run by a bunch if kids. You never got the feeling that there was a manager on duty watching over the staff. For example, at the end of our stay Hurrican Jeanne arrived and there was a mandatory evacuation order for South Beach. Had we not heard about this while having a drink at the Ritz next door, we would never have known that we had to leave the next morning. When we approached the front desk about the situation they said there should have been a message on the voicemail about this (there wasn't) and they handed 2 lists to us - one of other area hotels and one of shelters - and said good luck. After many phone calls to no avail, we went back to the front desk and politely demanded that they help us find alternative arrangements. They did so quickly and all was well.
All in all it's a great place and I would go back again. If you have a problem you just have to speak up because the staff is not as proactive as they should be in all areas.
Just Right
from maitaejFrom the contemporary designs to the beautiful artwork displayed throughout the entire hotel, the Sagamore is truly a luxury that is bypassed in Southbeach.
The staff was very attentive and helpful. Room service was always on time. Albert you are truly a gem.
However, there are two things that can be worked on first, more lighting in the rooms and second, more mirrors.
I look forward to staying there next year.
Where art meets Europe and South Beach, Miami
from AvenueEastTravelerIts prime location is within walking distance to the shops on Lincoln Road and the other, more well- known hotel SoBe hotels, such as the Delano, the Ritz, and Loews. Almost like hotel/casino hopping/sight-seeing in Las Vegas, the Sagamore Hotel offers guests the chance to visit other hotels in the area yet still be a refuge for rest and relaxation amongst its 90-plus suites--yes, all suites.
The lobby is very picturesque. Art lovers will appreciate this museum-like lobby with its display of unique works of art. Just past the hotel's bar, a hallway of sorts for more art, and a "veranda" is the pool, which seemed more suitable for photo shoots than swimming due to its small size and its stylish-looking shape. A gate conveniently leads directly to the beach.
The "L-shaped" suite was large and open with a lounge/sitting area and a bed room area with a queen-size bed. The beige/white tile floors were perhaps the only negative about the hotel. Although still new, the floors needed some mopping or hand-cleaning from too much use either from the previous guest(s) or from overuse over time. The bathroom was clean with just enough room to not feel "cramped." For the price of the suite, it could easily be considered more affordable than the other hotel establishments adjacent to it.
Overall, the Sagamore maintains a more European feel but the location is all South Beach--not a bad combination for travelers looking for a different SoBe experience.
Top Local Tips for Miami
Traffic If you are staying in the main part of South Beach allow yourself ample time to get anywhere. If you have a show at 10, best to leave a 9. There is alot of traffic in the area and it will take time to get through.
Great Restaurants to Check Out We use Zagat for the majority of our trips - here are some of the restaurants that we absolutely loved - Nobu (japanese / peruvian - very fast and efficient service, pricey, but very very good), Ola (Latin American - their ceviches (fish cooked in citrus acid) were outstanding), Osteria del Teatro (great Italian restaurant), Mark's on South Beach (pricey, but good), Talula (neighborhood standby, great friendly staff, not exactly romantic decor though).
Some restaurants: Touch, Ago, Nobu, Spiga, Pearl, Prime 112, China Grill
