Our rooms at 6th floor were under the water due to heavy rains. They have to relocate us after water pouring down from the ceiling. Some rooms are so loud that the floors shake with the vibration coming from AC equipment. The pool is dirty. The restaurant is a joke. No food except of nachos and chicken wings. Rooms are old, AC is not working well. People at the reception desk are not friendly AT ALL.. TV is a joke-just a few channels with a very poor quality. We'll never stay there again. Don't make the same mistake.

The ONLY attraction to this hotel is the cleanliness. No room service as advertised on their own website, wireless web not avail, fire alarm pulled 7am on sat morn, guests freezing in front of hotel for hour and a half with NO hotel employees even acknowledging us. NEVER AGAIN!!

This hotel is priced right and located right on the beach, which is what we were looking for. It is right by EVERYTHING! The staff is the best I have ever encountered and our room was very clean. The rooms are small, but you don't spend the day just sitting in your room in South Beach, so it was PERFECT!

t pay more than $90 a night

Good location - two short blocks from the Miami Beach Convention Center. Rooms were clean but small - no dresser bureau, just iron shelving in the closet for your clothes. The toilet was so close to the wall, you had to sit slightly sideways so that you're not sitting on the roll of toilet paper. If someone next door or above or below you flushes the toilet when you're taking a shower, the wate will decrease by 1/2. Walls are thin and if you're in a room that ends with #30, the air handler adjacent to the room makes it sound like you're riding in a jet airplane the whole time you're in the room.

Our room was small, the carpet was so stained I though Motley Crue had been in the room the night before. Had trouble getting clean towels. When we ran out of toilet paper, instead of getting more for us, the front desk told us where we had to go to get it.

When it was time to check out, they turned off the AC. I thought maybe it was just my room, but I talked to several others who were checking out the same day, they said their rooms were sweltering. But of course, at check-in time, our room wasn't ready.

The grounds were okay, and it was near the beach. I wouldn't stay there again.

Dirty and Noisy

from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently booked and stayed at the Richmond hotel in Miami's South Beach in late April 04. I have to say that I was very disappointed. This hotel is not 3 star caliber as it is listed on some sites.

What really was at the heart of the issue is how filthy the hotel rooms are. Right inside the door there was a huge stain on the light colored carpet and a matching huge stain on the white bedspread. They had a clean-white theme going on in the room reminiscent of a remodel at sometime that has since been forgotten. The new theme is we don't care to clean the rooms anymore. (Room 408 for the hotel manager if you are reading this review). When we came back that night and pulled back the cover, the sheets were stained with something red and there was hair in the sheets. We had to call for new sheets.

Additionally, the doors were cut too small so there is a gap almost all the way around the doors that lets in bright light and noise from the hallway all night long. The doors are also hollow foam core doors.

Good things about the hotel- the check in staff was very friendly, the lobby looked nice, the back yard was cool, you can access the hotel from the beach and the locale is awesome. Reall the problem was the room.

Hope this helps!

Think Twice before selecting the Richmond (Miami Beach)

from A TripAdvisor Member
My sister and I were guests of The Richmond in January of this year (2004). We checked in to a room that we assume was a half suite – pullout couch, closet with no hangers, no refrigerator, etc. We immediately called the front desk to inquire as to the availability of a room with a real bed. We were told that the hotel was sold out. (This of course was not the case. A member of our group was able to change rooms). We were one day away from taking a cruise and one night on a pullout couch was not going to negatively impact our trip.

When asked, we were told that our linens were on the bed. We decided that based on the terrible condition of the room, it was best that we verify this claim immediately. In order to pull out the couch, we were required to move a small table sitting in front of the couch. When lifted, we discovered that 1 of the legs was not attached and had been propped up to stabilize the table. We immediately went down to the front desk (approximately 10 minutes after checking in) to request that the situation be documented.

One month later, my credit card statement included a $200 charge from The Richmond Hotel. When questioned, I was told that “the log” indicates that we broke a table. I spoke with Richmond’s manager. She promised to talk to the night manager to resolve this error. She then chose to ignore all my future calls. I later sent a letter to the owner but received no response.

I have requested that my credit card company resolve this issue. The Richmond Hotel should NOT be paid for a table reported as broken upon check in. I would, however, like anyone thinking of staying at the Richmond to be aware of the incompetence of their staff.

1) Housekeeping must have been aware of the broken table when they made the couch. Or….was it made up for guest before us, or the guest before that, or…..
2) The front desk was not honest when they indicated that there were no more rooms available. The front desk also proved incapable of documenting a simple request. They documented that I broke the table rather than that it was broken.
3) The manager and her front desk staff – complete incompetence. The manager has her front line screening her calls and was not available for the week that I called. I was calling long distance trying to resolve the issue only to be told that she was out to lunch and would not be back for 2 hours, not in, in but on another line, etc. I appreciate the fact that she is busy but not following up on a promise to resolve an issue and call the customer back is totally unacceptable.

Needless to say, any future trips to Miami Beach will not be booked at the Richmond Hotel.

Wonderful

Great location, lovely gardens - with pool - which lead directly onto the beach. Friendly and helpful Staff. The rooms are an absolute delight - being modern with an art deco twist. If you want a convenient base for expoloring Miami South Beach - this Hotel is definitley worth looking at.

None friendly and dirty hotel !!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel frontdesk & the housekeeping staff were very unfriendly. The room was dirty, there were stains on the carpet, chair & furniture. The only thing the housekeeping did, was given us fresh towels, making up the bed and emptying the dustbin. There were people in the hotel who had an even dirtier room than ours (coffee on the furniture, dirty sheets, etc) and they asked for an immediately cleaning, but the frontdesk management told them that it wasn't possible. They couldn't go to an another hotel because everything in Miami was fully booked. As for the pool & the whirlpool, we never saw it getting cleaned and was rather dirty on the floor aswell. This was definitely our first & last staying at the Richmond Hotel !!!

look elsewhere for service with a smile

Good points: Lovely pool area.Right on the beach.
Room was clean Liked the housekeepers(smiled)

Bad: No welcome. The other hotel we stayed in in south beach was a screaming contrast with this hotel in every way. (It was the royal palms) People can't be happy all the time, but if good and accomodating service is important to you, you may want to look elsewhere.

Our bed was a sofa bed. We pulled the lumpy mattress off the springs and layed it on the floor.

It made the next hotel we stayed at look like a palace.

If these two things would change, we would stay there again. But only if it changes. Overall we were happy to check out of there.

Pick your poison

from A TripAdvisor Member
January 16th  January 20th For the most part, the Richmond Hotel is not a bad outfit, especially if you obtained your stay as part of a package deal thru some promotion. It s located in a GREAT area and it s right off the beach. If your from  The South , like myself, you ve probably been spoiled by the novelty and spaciousness that most name brand hotels(3 star and up) in The South offer, and unfortunately, the Richmond Hotel severely lacks those two qualities. However, MOST OF THE HOTELS IN THAT AREA(lower Collins Ave.) are the same way, so don t be fooled!! I emphasis again it is simply going to be a matter of choice. The hotel is located in the heart of all the fun and excitement in Miami and the South Beach area, so if it s luxury that your looking for, this IS NOT the hotel for you. As I stated in my title, you will have to pick your poison in this situation. From my own experience, I enjoyed my stay, the staff was courteous and the room was  fairly clean; all in all, I would recommend The Richmond if your looking for an inexpensive Miami get away!

t be scared off by the bad reviews

from A TripAdvisor Member
I read the reviews below and they scared me away from this great hotel!
My friend and I decided not to stay here after reading all the comments about bugs and dirty rooms. We went to the Richmond out of curiousity and it was wonderful- just as nice as the pictures! We sat in the cool hot tub and asked all of the other residents about thier rooms, and they all said they were clean (small, but clean) and were very happy.
Next time, I will be staying at the Richmond.

Great location, shame about the cleaning

from karen20
Hi

Myself and two friends stayed at the Richmond from 28th December 2003 through to 6th Jan 2004. Although I agree with the previous reviewer regarding the reception staff (always friendly and always behind the front desk), regrettably, I have to vehemently disagree with both the standard of cleaning and the noise between rooms (unfortunately, we also had a very noisy party staying on our floor who liked to shout lots when they came in at 3am in the morning, not the fault of the Richmond thou!).

Our room was 'cleaned' once a day if we were lucky and nearly always around 5ish when we tended to be back. Cleaning seemed to consist of plumping up the pillows and artistically arranging the duvet. The cystern in the bathroom leaked and although we reported it twice, it wasn't fixed and was only cleaned behind once. We do not think the bath was ever cleaned during the time we stayed, luckily, we only had showers. Although we both smoked, the ash tray was never cleaned - we were left to do this ourselves.

Our friend who had a room to himself seemed to get a much better service of cleaning, however, our room was right at the end of the corridor next to the lift and was the last one to be done so maybe they had had enough by the time they got to us ...

And, no, the breakfast was not free but we didn't expect that anyway.

When we had people in the next room to us, we could clearly hear their conversations and their television - luckily, this was only for two nights.

The other major issue we had was the fact that we were unable to open any windows whatsoever in our room. As we overlooked Collins, the windows had been sealed shut. No rooms were available for us to move to.

Therefore, due to the cleaning and the window issues, we, having been to south beach a couple of times now, would never go back to the Richmond ... which is a real shame.
