I have to disagree with the previous comments, because honestly, in my several stays in this hotel (five), I've never had a major complaint. Sure, this is by all means a cheap hotel, but the rooms are clean, the staff is courteous (maybe it's just my luck that I've never been mistreated) and it's overall a decent hotel.

Worst Hotel experience ever!

Don't let the website deceive you. This hotel is not a place that you would want to stay. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a hotel. I was in Miami attending a social work conference and I ended up staying at this hotel due to the conference hotel being full. After a very long flight due to long delays and bad weather I was ready to get some rest. As I walked into the lobby of this hotel I noticed that it was very old but I could deal with that. The staff were extremely rude and did not speak very good English. When I went into the room I found it to be atrocious. This was the filthiest hotel room that I have ever had the displeasure of staying in. The walls, all of them, were just filthy. It was like a kid had taken a black marker or pencil and drew all over them. The carpet looked like it had not been cleaned in years. The bathroom was very filthy and had mold in it. The bed was like a piece of plywood with a thin piece of foam over it, hard as a rock and very uncomfortable.
Also, there were no wash cloths in the bathroom and when I called the front desk to request some they stated that they were out of washcloths. Can you believe this? A hotel out of wash cloths? I was also told that I only get one wash cloth per stay. I was very uncomfortable the entire stay and I will never stay at this hotel again.
Check out was unbelievable. The hotel has 2 very small elevators and it seemed like everyone was checking out at the same time. I waited 20 minutes by the elevator so that I could check out. Finally, I decided to take the stairs. The stairway was extremely small and smelled awful. My stay at this hotel almost ruined my experience in Miami. I have never experience such disrespect from hotel staff. I can't believe the City of Miami allows this place to have a license. It is not fit for an animal. The owner should be ashamed of himself/herself.

Less Than Courteous

I stayed at The Riande during the Winter Music Conference in March of 2004. When we checked in the agent was less than courteous, there was a great deal of confusion regarding the parking policies and we were given conflicting information from different staff members regarding parking policies. At best the staff was indifferent and very unwilling to accommodate any special requests. The decor of the hotel is very outdated and the beds in the room were not comfortable.

A Place To Sleep

All in all--not a bad place, depending on what you need. All I needed was a place to sleep and shower. The water pressure was weak...but I got clean. The bathroom was tiny. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. The location of the plaza almost across the street was good...and the price was right.

Great deal with a view!

We were attending an all day concert event at the Bafront Park Amphitheatre and the Riande Continental is directly across Biscayne Boulevard from the entrance. From our room (Friday and Saturday nights) on the 16th floor, we had an awesome view of the amphitheatre, Bayside entertainment complex, Dodge Island cruise port (we saw numerous cruise ships come and go), the American Airlines Arena and Miami Beach in the distance. Yes there were some vagrants lurking behind the hotel, but like in most large cities, you learn to avoid them. The free MetroMover is a block and a half away and this neat elevated bus type car rapid transit takes you all around the downtown, Brickell financial and Omni shopping districts.

The complimentary continental breakfast is really basic but it is served buffet style in a rather nice sit down restaurant. Service was OK (slow) but you are strictly limited to "one visit" to the buffet. Hey it was nothing great but it was free! The elevators (2) are indeed small but we never waited more than a minute for one. We never found the pool if there indeed is one as there was no "book" in the room describing the hotel services.

Our beds (two doubles) were great and as someone else mentioned, the pillows were some of the best we have ever had at any hotel. The bathroom was only slightly larger than those on a 747 but it was clean. Our room appeared to have been recently renovated and the hall carpeting looked new as well. We can attest to the fact that AC was fine. We set the thermostat all the way down before heading out in the morning and there was frost on the windows upon our return late at night.

For the price, considering a downtown location with an incredible view, we would recommend this hotel. Yes it is an old hotel with all of the quicks related to such, but if you are attending a function across the street or at any of the walking distance arenas, I would certainly consider the Riande Continental. Of course, you could stay three blocks away right on the Bay in the Intercontinental at a rate that is about five times as much just for a basic room. Your choice...

Easily mistaken for a tourist hotel

This is a dump and a waste of time and money for those people coming to Miami to enjoy the beach and the nicer touristic areas. The hotel itselself is not on Miami Beach, but in Downtown Miami. Although Miami is cleaning-up its downtown area, still there is a large population of vagabonds and homeless who live in the streets right around the hotel. Parking is a nightmare, and the beach and nice hotels, water, and restaurants are all about a 5-10 minute taxi ride across the causeway on a barrier island. Service was lacking but typical of a totally latin run and managed hotel. As they take their time in every aspect of life, including check in, requests for towels and service in general. Prepare to exercise a lot of patience and to overlook at lot of lazy employees who seem to be there only to pass their 8 hours.

A Dump

I had to check out a day early thats how bad it was. The hallways stink. The walls are cracked. It wouldn't have been that bad if at least the bathroom were clean looking. The bathroom just discussed me and to make my vacation a bigger nightmare it was cold out and we couldn't even enjoy the pool or the beach. The hotel itself is not in a good area. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

THE WORST

The absolute worst.. NO Parking, tons of vagrants all over the street outside the hotel. The hot water in the shower came on for 1 min, then turned to ice for a minute, then hot, then ice..etc.. The elevator BROKE - we were on the 17th floor!! We checked in at 4am, the next morning a lady (the only one that spoke english) at the desk yelled at us for not having a "hotel ID card", which was never given to us the night before. We checked out a day early and would never recommend that nightmarish hotel to anyone.

I stayed for less than 10 hours. Was accosted on the street by a street person.....fight in the lobby....drunks smelling of marijuana got off the elevator. Looks NOTHING like the advertisements. Could not enter the front door after midnight.

Loved the view

I just spent 4 nights at the Riande. One of the reasons that I stayed here is because of all the bad comments. I wanted to check it out. I am a travel agent and was checking out hotels for clients pre and post cruise. The lobby was nice. I did not notice smell that others had talked about. Yes the room is very basic. bed, desk, dresser, fridge, and tv. Yes bathroom is small but who spends much time in bathroom anyway. Water pressure was good and toilet worked. I am pickey on beds and I thought that the bed was comfortable. How many have stayed in hotel where your pillow was like a pancake. I did not find that here. I thought the pillow was comfortable also. My only complaint would be that there is not a vending machine in the hotel. There is a cafe right behind the hotel which was very reasonable and has snacks to accomodate anyones appetite. Lets talk about the view. It was AWESOME. I got up the first morning at 5:30am. opened my curtin and had a complete view of cruise port and South Beach in the distance. The ships were coming in that early Carnival first then about 6 Royal Caribbean starts coming in watching the ships was exciting. If you are looking for a hotel that is reasonable and just a place to stay this place was in perfect location for the price. Be sure to request view of port. Right across street is Bayside Market where Hard Rock Cafe is there were also a lot of other restaurants with a lot of water side seating. A lot of shops.
Make sure you take the walk along the river was really nice. 2 blocks from Riande is a Metro Mover which will take you to other locations for free. If you are looking for 5 star accomodations this is not the place for you but if you are looking for a place to sleep the place was nice and I did not find any of the employees there to be rude. I talked to some people that were staying at the Hyatt they did not have near the view that I had. The view was totally worth the stay.

When we checked in at 2 in the afernoon, the hotel looked decent, appears to be in the Financial district, and was air conditioned.

As soon as we got to the desk, the scenery soured. The staff was rude, did not even make an attempt to provide any value in her service. It took her 20 minutes to find my reservation, and then she took my credit card and read me a list of things that I will be charged for, and sent me on my way.

When we got to the room (2 elevators for the entire building, often broken), at first I noticed a funny smell. So sqeezed by the full-size (not queen) to get to the window to let out the stale air, and it was bolted shut.

Then I checked out the bathroom. Besides the bath tub, the tiny sink and the toilet, there was standing room ONLY. I also had fun flushing the toilet about 6 times each time it was used. It sounded just like the beach that was a 20 minute drive away!

After settling down and trying to ignore the funny smell, the funny toilet and all of the scuff marks on the dark green wall (yes dark green), I looked at our center piece, the BED. I don't fully trust that the linens were clean, but they looked white. The BLANKET looked like something my cats used to nest in in the winter time, and that it was about 10 years old and really beat.

So I decided to take a shower, and the tub doesn't drain. the shower head fell off during the process of me washing the soap off of my body standing in 12 inches of shower water. We called for towels since there weren't any in the bathroom for 2 consecutive days and the staff too their SWEET time delivering it.

And oh yeah, enjoy the continental breakfast of frozen waffles and muddy canned fruits!

So we come home late at night and try to park our rented car one block over from the hotel. It was GHETTTTTTOOOOOOO. THere were homeless people sleeping in the streets.

the riande continental bayside hotel is the worst hotel in miami. the sheets and towels had yellow stains on them. there was no window in the room. there are only 2 elevators for the 17 floor hotel, and all day and night there was a line of about 30 people waiting to go upstairs.
not one person working at the hotel spoke english. the bar is open from 6-10pm each night if you're lucky, and the "bartender" has no idea how to make a drink. the continental breakfast was defrosted waffles you had to toast yourself, fruit salad and luke-warm orange juice. the eggs with the american breakfast were runny and cold. this hotel is in the ghetto and there is nothing to do around it, nowhere to go out or anything. for example the liquor store across the street sold 6 packs of beer, which were 12 packs cut in half and taped up to make a 6 pack.
bayside marketplace is across the street, but everything closes at midnight except for a very small, overpriced bar called sharkey's that has terrible service and ran out of beer every night at about midnight-1am. that's about all there is to say about this dump, if you are planning on staying in miami for a few nights, spend the extra $$$ and stay at miami beach or south beach. it's only about a $20 cab ride each way from miami. also, there is no shuttle from the hotel to the airport, which is a $30 cab ride. if you have a car dont expect to park it anywhere near the hotel.

Absolutely the worst hotel ever....I hope this hotel goes out of business. Waited 3 hrs to check in, was told their double beds were queens, had no AC, had a nasty messy room, and noone spoke English.
This place is a fraud.

The Riande has its good and bad points

We stayed at the Riande Continental in South Beach November 27 - 30, 2003 for a precruise stay. We LOVED being in South Beach - although even the simplest meal was more costly than anywhere else! One of the main reasons we picked the Riande was for the HOT breakfast buffet that was promoted on various internet sites. It turns out they changed to a continental breakfast buffet (toast, muffins, cereal, fruit, etc) almost half a year ago. They gave us extra free vouchers for the buffet to make up for the misinformation which turned out OK - until a busload of people were dropped off Friday night which made for a lineup a mile long Saturday morning between 8 and 9 a.m. I gave up and in the course of my walk ended up stopping at a little cafe on Ocean Drive which served a great breakfast.Everyone at the Riande (guests and staff) speaks Spanish as a first (and sometimes only) language and it was strange to us but not alarming. The front desk staff seemed to have competent enough English to meet our needs. Things are a bit worn out at the Riande in places but it all seemed clean enough and that's all that was crucial for me.We used the pool one afternoon - takes a bit to get used to the water temperature as it's outdoor but not heated - and there could have been more sunbeds but we managed.It was great that we were so close to the beach and ocean. That is the real advantage of staying at the Riande - it's affordable and you have the ocean at your back door. We spent a fair amount of time at the beach and walking arround Lincoln Road Mall which is just a few blocks away. My husband and teenage boys would sit out front of the hotel and just watch the cars go by - anytime of day or night. They drive some pretty nice vehicles in down Collins Avenue in South Beach! Vehicle watching became a regular passtime.We did not eat in the hotel Restaurant so I can't tell you what the food was like. The continental breakfast buffet was plentiful - as long as you could get in to enjoy it (which we did Friday and Sunday mornings). And it was nice that they kept a pot of latte on the burner next to the coffee. What a great way to start the day!Overall we were pleased - you get an average hotel for an average price - but in an above average location.
