Historical Traveller Reviews of Ramada Plaza Marco Polo Beach Resort Hotel
Nickel and Dime in Moldsville

This place thinks it can call itself a 'resort' by overcharging for what a Motel 6 would be ashamed of. The walls were mildewed, the carpet was cut, frayed, and stunk of years of beach wetness. The carpet was loose and hung over the tiles in the 'kitchenette.' The bathroom was ridiculous. The toilet lid did not even go up all the way, poking you in the back when you sat hunched over on the commode because the lid was too tall for the counter shelf behind it. The tub was YELLOWED and flaking off inside. The tiles on the floor were white with BLACK mold in the grout that desperately needed some bleach water. The whole bathroom was probably due for a remodel when Don Johnson was cruising around town in a Lamborghini with Vice Officer Tubbs back in the 80s. Even the complimentary breakfast isn't, at least if you want coffee--that's extra! The breakfast was the same starchy fare everyday. The staff does not tell you that there is a free parking lot right across the street so they can charge you 8 bucks a day and then you have to TIP the valet everytime you take your car out, which was often, because the hotel was far from everything. The beds didn't have real sheets and the gross stained mattress showed through. (Try both mattresses in your room; the springs in one of ours were totally worn out.) We didn't leave because we had prepaid through Orbitz and would lose our money if we left, so we stuck it out. (We spent most of our time away from the hotel anyway.) The place has the aura of a hotel that MAY have been decent at some point in the past, but is years overdue for a major remodelling, and doesn't seem to realize it. Don't bother staying here; there are cleaner places to stay.
Great stay at the Ramada Marco Polo
Just returned from Marco Polo stayed for 9 nights over the Colombus Day weekend. Check in was very straight forward even though we arrived a day late, the manager upgraded us to a room with balcony with partial ocean view, very nice. We were on the 7th floor and our room was tiled and had kitchen utilities, however the bed appeared to be one of those push up beds and had very sharp edges which my partner cut his shin on a couple of times. Mentioned this to the manager and he was happy to move us to an alternative room. However after checking rooms on 3rd Floor and 5th Floor which were both carpeted we decided to stay where we were because of the damp smell in both the other rooms (but they were nice). The beach was lovely, the sea a bit choppy, but warmer than the pool which was freezing. Continental breakfast was included which kept us going till late afternoon. We did not hire a car but managed to get around fine on the buses. There was a burger king, kentucky chicken and Publix within walking distance. Be careful to check your bill before paying. We made some telephone calls which we never got through on but they were charging us for them. They did cancel them without too much of a fuss. If you are watching your $$ catch the shuttle to and from the airport only $17 per passenger. Avoid the $10 casino cruise. The food was awful (in fact it made us both very sick) and we were never offered any free drinks, it was a very long 5 hours. The concierge were very helpful. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Would definitely recommend staying here. Never saw any ants or creepy crawlies in all the time that I was there.
We spent five days at this hotel and I will not be back! They were running a promo of stay 3 nights get a night free. I thought hey what a bargain! But like most things in life, if it appears too good to be true it probably is! Well, the hotel is in dire need of renovations, the lobby and dining room smells of mold/mildew. The rooms are comparable to a rent-by-the-hour motel with many items broken, paint flaking, etc.... The staff was unhelpful and downright rude at times especially in the dining room. The breakfast was terrible (everyday) with old hard bread and danishes. The only bright spot was the the pool and beach. But I recommend you spend your money elsewhere where your business is appreciated and your room is worth the money.
Enjoyed our stay at Ramada Marco Polo

My husband and I stayed at this hotel 9/9/04-9/12/04 and we really enjoyed our stay here. Our room was spacious and clean. The view from the balcony was spectacular. We were on the 11th floor and had a partial oceanview room. The hotel is situated between two luxury high-rise condo buildings so we had a view of the high-rise and ocean/beach area. This hotel is in a perfect location (Sunny Isles Beach) away from the crowds in SoBe. The scenery and views in this area are spectacular. The pool and beach area is awesome. The beach is white sand and wasn't at all crowed the 4 days we were there. The complimentary breakfast was simple and consisted of muffins, danishes bagels/cream cheese and cereal. It was perfect for us because we don't eat a big breakfast anyway. There's a Denny's down the street if you want a change in the menu. The bus stop is right outside the hotel's front door. You can got to South Beach for $1.25 or anywhere else you want to go. We took public transportation everywhere. If you're looking for nightlife, don't stay here; you'll need to rent a car for the South Beach action at night. Most of the buses stop running at 1 pm. Taxi's will cost about $45 one way to go to South Beach. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. There's a desk to book tours and get any info you need about getting around and where to go. We also got complimentary tickets to one of Miami's hot nightclubs (Crowbars) and discounts on some of the places we went to like the Parrot Jungle Island. Housekeeping kept our rooms clean and left us plenty of towels.
To sum this review up, this was a good hotel for the price and in a good location, with an awesome beach. I plan to stay here again next year.
Nice hotel for the money
Nice hotel for the money, plus it included a contentinal breakfast, not bad, but you could also order from the menu too. Service was slow, but, we weren't in a hurry.
The staff was very friendly, bell hops were great, so were the conciere, luckily we found a couple with good english. The pool was great, and so was the beach, very clean. The poolside cafe food was very good, drinks were a little expensive for what you got. The only bad things, there is nothing in walking distance, so a cab or bus ride is right at your door if needed. If a quiet relaxing vaction is what you are looking for, this is the place. Our room was not bad, clean. We did not go to spend time in our room but to relax on the beach. I would recommend this for families.
The staff are great, shame about the rest
Stayed here just before Hurricane Frances hit. Staff are expectional, especially the bell hops. Some do however seem to struggle with English (some of the staff's first language seemd to be spanish) or was it just my accent they couldn't understand?
Shame the rest didn't live up. Whole hotel needs renovating, rooms scabby (we had two).
In a failry good location and beach quite nice - not private however, public have access.
Free breakfast not bad, but exactly the same everyday gets a little boring. Even a change in the flavour of the Muffins would have helped.
Close to Perfection
Just returned from a seven-day vacation at the Marco Polo; had a wonderful time and recommend the place to anybody who would like to exeprience the spirit and cultural diversity of resort Florida for a very reasonable price. The Marco Polo is surrounded by high-end condominiums and offers the atmosphere and luxury of upper-end high-rises, such as Trump and Oceania.
The Marco Polo is located in beautiful Sunny Isles, only minutes away from Aventura Mall and Bal Harbour Shops; South Beach is a 20-25-minute enjoyable drive on Collins Avenue.
The best rooms in the hotel are the oceanfront ones and the view of the Atlantic is nothing less than breathtaking. The beach is very nice and not crowded at all. The pool is wonderful and offers plenty of fun for children and adults alike. Valet parking, $8 a day, was convenient.
Complimentary breakfast was just ok; fitness center was a bit too small for my taste but one could keep up with their workout routine. Staff was courteous and friendly. I will definitely stay there during my next vacation in Miami.

Well I was not looking at this hotel like a place to live. It was strictly used for shelter. However I was impressed with the hotel. It had a little pizza shop (w/ good pizza), a convienient store, beauty salon, even a little bar/club, fitness center, and a poolside grill. My room was a nice size, cool & clean!!! (that is the important part)
Yeah the lobby smelled like Mildew but I was not there to stay in the lobby. They cleaned the couches & it was fine. Considering it was hot & humid & the doors are always open.
The beach was alot nicer than South beach (that's if u choose to lay-out) The sand was white & cleaner than South. It was quiet & more family oriented. It's located 25 min from both South Beach & Fort Lauderdale. Their pool is a nice size & it's 24 hours.
They have Valet ($8/day) but there is a FREE lot across the street under the overpass.
The only issue I had was with house keeping they would take my towels & not replace them right away. So bring your own just in case. It was a temporary issue... Not a big deal
Their staff spoke ENGLISH which is aparently Floridas second language... There is access to many eating establishments. You definately have to rent a car. Traffic is pretty good too. not like South Beach :-( I would use this hotel again. I saw some of my other 3 star options & they were quite shabby in comparison to this place... If you want the better than spend more $$...
Loved the Marco Polo Ramada!

My husband, 7 year old god daughter and I stayed here June 2-5th 2004. We had a fantastic time! We stayed in room 610, which had 2 Queen beds. The room was huge and was a corner room with a nice balcony overlooking the pool and ocean. Check in was the only bad part of our experience. We had reserved an "Ocean Front" room, but they tried to give us a "Pool View". Insist on the room you reserved. Bring your confirmation number and call ahead just to make sure they have your room right. The beach was absolutely wonderful. This is our new favorite beach to visit. The sand was perfectly white, the water was warm, and the pool was also nice. There were lots of shells during low tide, which we enjoyed collecting. The part of town the hotel is in is very nice, a residental community. We didn't see any other hotels nearby--only condos. This was definitely a plus. We drove down to South Beach and we were not impressed. The beach wasn't half as nice and the traffic was horrible. The trip down and back took us 4 hours! Literally! And, it isn't that far distance wise. There is no night life to speak of in Sunny Isles and we loved it that way! Go to South Beach for night life and the party scene. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation with your family, stay away from South Beach. Spend your time in Sunny Isles! We loved it! Hope you do too!

...just returned from miami from a weekend getaway @ marco polo/ramada inn. I did alot of research before the trip and stay in miami every year. I'm a bargain hunter so i like to compare apples to apples. I booked this room thru expedia and got it for $63.00 a nite... so when i got there i wasn't expecting anything awesome since $63.00 is unheard of in miami beach. our first room was on the 5th floor and old and scummy. In the morning called expedia and they upgraded me to oceanfront free!! The room was better and fine and slightly renovated. I was happy. The location of the hotel was nice. away from southbeach, minutes from bal harbour and aventura mall, and ft. lauderdale . Most of the other reviews were correct about the ....
parking....free accross the street
rooms...acceptable for the $$$
...overall for the price and the condition, compared to other similar hotels in the area its great....
...if your a bigshot try the ...trump towers and the westin in hollywood both around $200.00 a nite...
Top Local Tips for Miami
If you do stay at this hotel, there is a city bus (S) that stops right outside the hotel, costs $1.50 and runs 24 hours a day. This will take you right into the heart of South Beach.
Miami Beach Fitness
Take the bus to Miami Beach Fitness at 17050 Collins Ave for a good workout. The hotel's fitness center is a sad joke.
