Historical Traveller Reviews of President Hotel

s all about location, location, location

from Portia52
We are a couple over the age of 40 and we stayed in The President Hotel for two days during the last week in February 2005, prior to driving to Key West. We paid about $130 a night and this price isn't bad for "high season" in SoBe. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. We had a clean and tidy corner room with a great view of Collins Street. Although you do not get the luxury of the big fluffy bath towels, the linens were fresh and we had absolutely no complaints. However, I would suggest that you bring a hairdryer. We were concerned about the "mold" complaint from one of the reviews because we suffer from allergies, but clearly this was not an issue with our room. This hotel is one of the few in SoBe that is strategically located within walking distance of everything and still not outrageously priced. I don't know of anyone who visits SoBe and stays in their hotel room, so why pay the big price?

Mold In The Room

Checked in on 2/9/05 and checked out same day.Mold in the room .Any more words about this "Hotel" is a waste of time. Do not stay here .

The President Hotel is Awful!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The President Hotel was my worst experience in Miami, DO NOT STAY HERE! It has roaches, it smells like mold, there are prostitutes right out front, and the bathrooms are the size of a small closet. When I complained I did not receive an apology, nor did I get my money back for the reservation for the next night. Be very aware when booking a room here.

s NOT that bad folks!

from Froggie68
I stayed at the President Hotel from Jan 16-20, 05. The hotel room I recd was small but thats SOBE for ya! The room itself had 2 Queen Size beds, a view of the wading pool and had NO funky smell. I checked the room completely for bugs and found none. The bathroom was stocked with towels and bathroom supplies (Shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash etc

Also people are complaining about the so-called pool? It's a WADING POOL people.. it's supposed to be small!

My only complaint about the hotel room itself was the fact the walls were paper thin and I happen to be beside a couple of honeymooners so you can guess what I heard all night!

I would stay at the President Hotel again after all it was only $60us a night.. you have to remember your paying for a 2plus hotel not a 5star!

Stay Clear

Stay here and you will be miserable. I kid you not. If you like funky odor, bug spray smell, cockroaches, other inidentifyable bugs IN YOUR BED!- this place is for you. You get what you pay for. Spend extra money and have a nice vacation at a reputable establishment.

Best hotel in South Beach

from A TripAdvisor Member
The President Hotel is the best hotel ever!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me and don't listen to all those --------- reviews. If you are lookin to go to south beach and stay in a hotel that is in the heart of everything and is under priced this is the spot. The people are great and we did have face clothes in our room so I don't know where people got that. When I began looking for a hotel I read all the negative reviews and got weary about the president. That was all erased as soon as I got there. If you stay here ask for a room in the front of the building and crank open the front window and hang out it all day and with all the people walkin the streets you never know what you might see. Trust me and book this hotel. It is under priced with most internet packages and I promise you will have an awesome trip. Don't listen to all the negative reviews because they are -------- and because of them I almost never booked the president and I am so glad I did.

Who wrote the bad reviews?

from A TripAdvisor Member
After booking a room on the internet , I was then told about the bad reviews (below), and was understandably very, very concerned that I had made a big mistake. In fact the rooms are a good size and clean, and the staff are efficient and nice. The hotel is always being cleaned. There was a bar, pillows, TV in our room. I was so shocked that the reviews were so different from my experience. But on re-reading them now I understand that the critical reviews are by people with unreasonable expectations. If as you say you are paying $3 a night - don't expect the Delano! It is important that a variety of accommodation is available in Miami so that not only the rich can enjoy it. By unquestionably criticizing cheaper places - where they can afford less staff and amenities - you are actually playing into the hands of people who want less financially able people off the beach!

OK, for $3 per day it was fine!

from AustinCane
My fiance and I travel a lot. We usually look for the greatest deals (internet), however, we do keep in mind cleanliness and hospitality. This time, though, we took a risk. With the package deal, the hotel worked out to be $3 per day. For a roof and A/C it was worth it...but not a penny more. He's got to be over-reacting, you say...OK, don't take my word for it. The folks don't care at The President. We don't have kids, but would avoid this place if we did. Romantic...that's funny. Broken bed, no TV, one pillow (don't ask for extras), hugely stained comforter, no one ever at desk, no iron (well it was always checked out when we needed it...yeah...checked out), paper thin walls, no parking...should I go on? I always say...man, that reviewer must be high maintenance...fine...consider it a DARE...book a few nights at The President!

Why people lie?

It was fine with me

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel was cool for the amount we paid which was $175 for three nights. I was just there Oct. 1 - Oct 4th. It is funny how people always complain about the size of the rooms in Miami but they don't realize that they are all that small so stop complaining. As for clean it was very, and the staff was cool they told us how to take the train and the bus to save money. What I can say is that if you need a place to stay and you want it to be economical stay there, if you want the Hilton or the Marriott then pay those prices but don't knock it until you have tried it.

Top Local Tips for Miami

THEY DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE Don't Book this Hotel At all. Save Hassle, this people is ready to ruined your vacations, they don't care, they just want your money, they are big time rip offs.

Lincoln Road Shopping In the Lincoln Road Shopping Area, there are no public restrooms. Make sure you go when you eat dinner or buy something in a place that has one. Otherwise, hit the McDonalds at the corner for a soda or ice cream cone and they will buzz you into theirs.

more aware South Beach is a tourist spot best known for its beaches and nightlife. Most people who come there, come to party and lay on the beach. Some guest may be "first-timer" and not familiar with the night life scene. The staff should be the eyes for some local attractions. Giving there guests ideas of where to go instead of just having brochures to lead the way. Sometimes word of mouth can go a long way.
