Historical Traveller Reviews of Park Central Hotel
Best Deal in Southbeach
from A TripAdvisor Member
After doing the greatest amount of research I have ever done for a hotel, my girlfriend and I decided to stay at the Park Central for our action-packed vacation in Miami Beach (only because of the these reviews). This hotel was perfect for our medium budgeted 3 night stay. The Park Central is exactly what we wanted and exactly what was advertized. Nice, clean and comfortable. We had thought about the oceanview but personally, if I needed to see the ocean, I would need to walk only a few steps outside to see it. We stayed in a pool/garden facing room and we surprized of it's size considering some of the 'small' reviews. Trust me, I like space as much as the next guy, but remember, this is Southbeach and if you are spending any time in your hotel room other than 'sleeping', you're in the wrong vacation spot! We especially enjoyed the location of the hotel, right in the heart of the action of Ocean Drive. Great shopping, eating and nightlife are all within walking distance and the beach is directly accross the street. What else do you need to hear? The beds were exactly as advertized, down-filled heaven. The bathroom, small but clean and lots of shelving for all the haircare products in the world. Their restaurant, 'Quinns' served me one of the best meals I had in Miami, even better than other more fine dining establishments up the road. The pool was a little small but great to have a couple of gin and tonics while taking in the late afternoon sun. The Park Central's service was excellent and the staff were courteous and helpful. Especially when assisting us in recovery of something we had accidentally left in our room after our stay. My only concern while staying at this hotel was of the loud classic guitar playing during the diner hours right below our room, and this only because I wanted to catch a nap before clubbing later that night! Also the workout room was small and underequipped but that didn't matter since I was too exhausted to use it! I can only speak of my own experience, but the Park Central was a great, convenient and moderately priced hotel, perfectly located on Southbeach. If you want fancy and high priced service etc, you'll have to pay for it up the road at Lowes. But if you're looking for a great medium budget hotel with all the amenities, then the Park Central is for you. I will go back and I will recommend this to all who care to know.
First Time in South Beach - Loved This Hotel!
When we first arrived at the Park Central, we were greeted promptly. The staff seemed pleasant and very friendly. The room was a bit small however, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Also had wireless internet access...a plus!!!
Hotel is located in an ideal location, across from the beach and near the shops and restaurants. We were only staying a few days until we left for our cruise on Monday.
When we got back from the cruise the following Saturday morning, our flight didn't leave until 6pm. So we headed back to the Park Central, where they happily stored our luggage and booked us on an Everglades Tour! We will defintely stay at Park Central Hotel again!
Charming little hotel
We booked 2 rooms at the Park Central based on reviews on this board. It was a very charming art deco hotel in an excellent location. Parking was down the street, but convenient and cheap ($10 per day). The bed in the hotel was the most comfortable I've ever seen. The lobby and restaurant were lovely. The halls were kind of dank and we didn't love the louvered doors. Our bathroom was OK, but our traveling companion's hadn't been renovated as lately as ours. The air conditioner worked well. For the price this hotel was very nice. If you are expecting plush and luxurious you'll have to look elsewhere. I would stay here again for a night, but doubt I would book for a long stay.
First visit to South Beach
Booked this hotel because of the Trip Advisor reviews. The hotel lived up to its ratings. The only problem we had on check-in was that there was no safe in our room. The hotel sorted it out immediately and moved us to another room. There were no tea or coffee facilities in the room but a fridge and bottled water was provided and coffee and tea were available in reception in the mornings. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the car parking at a garage one block away was easy and only cost $10 a day-reasonable for South Beach. The sun deck on the 6th floor is a nice idea and very pretty. Overall enjoyed the hotel but was not keen on South Beach.
A wonderful time
I had a memorable and overall positive stay at the Park Central. I had a beautiful oceanview room which was worth the extra $ and had cross-breezes and a sweet dining table overlooking everything. The room was clean and comfortable, making it hard to leave. There were a few glitches: there were problems with the phone, so every time I rang room service, it went to an outside mortgage company; I hung a breakfast order on the doorknob the first night and waited for it to arrive the next morning, only to find it still there. They told me that the night security man, who collects these, had called in sick. There were elevator problems as well. I was expecting an important fax which I'd alerted the front desk about, but they never called or brought it up.
The room service was prompt, however they did not tell me that a 17% gratuity was included, so they got an extra tip. The food was delicious with an eclectic menu: the salmon carpaccio was perfect for lunch. The bellman was wonderful, as was the housekeeper--Very friendly and concerned that I was enjoying my stay. The beds are comfortable, the linens and towels, robe and toiletries above average. The concierge was distracted and bordered on being unfriendly and the off-hours doorman was always just a little late in getting the door. In the evenings, they had a live Spanish-style jazz singer by the pool and the music wafting upwards was a real joy--I fell asleep one night with guitar music gently playing, which was great. A friend was staying up the street at the Beacon at a comparably priced room, and the difference was stark: she had a dark, smelly room. In spite of a few problems, I would stay again at Park Central. I hated to leave!

My friends and I stayed at the Park Central from 4/2/04-4/5/04. We stayed here after two nights at the Claridge. The location is excellent. Walking distance to everything. Some of the rooms were a little on the small side. I would reccomend demanding a non-smoking floor (The smelly carpets have to go). The beds are nice and comfy.
Forget about the Oceanview because I dont think it exists. Ups and downs the Park Central is a very romantic hotel and I enjoyed my stay.
If your'e a diva and want four seasons quality then by all means stay at Lowes or Delano. This hotel has a charm that you dont find at those mega sized hotels. And by the way Mario was great
Nice Hotel for the $

Stayed at Park Central Hotel April 2 through April 5th 2004. Let me just say this: Location Location Location!!. The hotel is situated right across from the beach. It is within walking distance to major hangouts like Wet Willes, Phat Tuesdays and just about everything. The beds are the most comfortable beds in the world. You may not want to leave the room. They even throw in a CD player so pack some tunes. The rooms weren't large but kept clean. There is a nice little old guy named Mario that helps you with your bags. Very funny. Cons: As soon as you arrive they want you to pay. I didn't like that the floors were carpeted in the hotel, it had a scent of old cigarettes and dampness in some of the hallways. If your older and can't tolerate a little noise at night I wouldn't recommend staying there because the walls are thin.
Overall, I have to say I would go back to the Park Central.
Mediocre Hotel, Terrible Service
Having read all of the reviews posted here, I was excited about staying at the Park Central. Arriving I was truly disappointed. While the hotel definetely retains its original charm, the hotel has an old, outdated feel. The bathroom had cracked walls, a slow drain and was extremely tiny (this coming from a New Yorker you can only imagine how small it was!) The oceanview room we were promised required us to crane our necks out the window to catch even a glimpse of water. Mario, the bellman everyone praises so highly, may be extremely personable but he is also very incapable. It took over half an hour for our bags to be brought up to our room! Gary the concierge adds no value in terms of suggestions for local restaurants. And the comparison to the heavenly beds someone makes in their post is way off. The bed was a sagging marshmallow with little firmness. In short other than the location there is not much that the Park Central offers...
great place to stay

After having stayed at various South Beach hotels, can definitely recommend the Park Central as it is in a great location, has charm and friendly staff.
Based upon previous reviews I decided to stay at The Park Central for the two nights I spent in Miami. Most of the reviews are right on. This is comfortable hotel with good service.
The hotel is in a great area, on Ocean Drive, but in a quieter block than some of the other hotels. Compared to some of the art deco hotels this one is luxurious. My room had carpeting (which is a must) and a very comortable bed. If anyone has stayed at a Westin they will know what I mean about the bed. It's nice to get a good rest. The bathroom was a little cramped and what I would call "semi renovated." It featured original tiles, but did have a new vanity and glass. My only complaint was the shower curtain and water pressure.
I did use the pool which is next to the hotel lobby. The pool was nice and they had plenty of beach towels.
Top Local Tips for Miami
For shopping and a great choice of restaurants (probably better that the glitzy beach front ones on Ocean Drive) walk up to the Lincoln mall - a long avenue of shops with restaurants and street cafes down the middle - a huge choice
The buses are cheap and took the strain out of walking that extra few blocks. Try them !!
Eat at AltaMar -- great coastal Italian food. Best I have had in a long long time. A place that locals eat.
