Fab hotel, lovely room great staff, couldn't fault anything a perfect honeymoon hotel.

Nice Hotel - but too many events at the pool

from A TripAdvisor Member
The National has great service and a very nice pool. The beach set up is great - but it is difficult to get drinks ordered on the beach. The deck area at the pool is very open and relaxing - however, on both Friday and Saturday nights there was an event scheduled for the pool that evening. They shut down the drink and food service at 6pm and refused to give towels or chairs to anyone arriving after 4pm. I think this takes away from the guest experience since these are common areas that should be open to guests all of the time. I did not see the set up of events interfering with guests at the pools at the hotels next to the National. I would stay here again but I will check first to see how many events are booked at the pool....

Comfortable stay, friendly staff

from JupiterGirl
Stayed for four nights at the National, and we were very pleased. Booked a king-size bed via Orbitz, but when we got there (a Saturday night), they only had a queen; the staff claimed it was a glitch in the booking system. The room was on the small side, but still clean & comfortable, with an interesting open-shower style--not much closet space though.

The next night, they moved us into a king, which had a bit larger room, and more closet space. The beds are pretty comfortable here, and they have nice sheets. Also, the rooms had nice TVs with dvd/vhs players, plus bathrobes, slippers, hair dryer, iron, etc. The pool area and beach are great (especially the towel service and beach chairs!), and the bar/restaurant are also chic.

As for location, the National is within a few blocks of Lincoln Road, and a bit longer walk to the Art Deco District (or a $5 cab ride). My husband and I had a great time checking out the bars and restaurants in the area. We're not so much into the danceclub/party scene, so we didn't want to stay directly in the Art Deco district b/c we thought it might get too loud. But, we still wanted to go out and check out the nightlife, and it was easy to do from this location...

The National was a good place to stay if you want a relaxing, reasonably priced, comfortable, well-located hotel. It's not the most luxe or the most trendy by far, but it offers good value. I would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful Getaway!

After studying many hotels and reading lots of reviews of various South Beach properties, we chose the National Hotel. We definitely made the right choice! It was sophisticated with an air of quiet solitude. There were plenty of people around, but we enver felt crowded, hurried or out-of-place. The dexluxe cabana wing accomodations were great looking, a bit small, but were comfortable (although we found the mattress a bit too firm and in minutes a feather bed was delivered to our door!). The grounds are beautiful, the staff is very able and attentive, but not obtrusive. There are beach staff to assist with chairs, umbrellas and food and drink. They were always around. The poolside massage was restorative and relaxing. The outdoor living spaces are varied and comfortable. The bar was enjoyable and the restaurant was delicious. We would return.

great experience at the National

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just spent two nights at the National and it was everything I hoped for- the pool is without doubt the most beautiful in SoBe and the bonus is that it never seems to be crowded. This a perfect hotel for someone looking for SoBe ambience and luxury without having to put up with the tragically hip crowd that hangs at the Sagamore and the Delano. All services requested from check in to check out could not have been better. We had a cabana room and it was very pretty- clean and spacious and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to ADULTS who are looking for a romantic quiet getaway. I will be back!

Great Hotel

Stayed at the hotel for our Honeymoon.
Great hotel. Extremely helpfull & Friendly staff.
We stayed in a cabanna suite, very cozy (but small). The views are gorgeous. The food was excellent in Tamara.
The only drawback is that (everything) was so &%$#ing
expensive.

Very average at best

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very average. Lobby, rooms, etc. - nothing special about this place. Looks very cool on the website and then you arrive and it is a MAJOR dissapointment. I booked a "Deluxe Cabana Wing" room and even that room was very, very basic. Terrible bathroom. Not worth what they charge - find somewhere else.

Fabulous time at the National!

from rosa727
I had a wonderful time at the National, from beginning to end. I planned a surprise birthday trip for my husband for 5 days to Miami Beach and chose to stay there, despite some of the reviews here. I booked a cabana room (the ones along the beautiful infinity pool) on the hotel's website and got a better deal than they had on any of the online booking sites. When I called to confirm the reservation, they were very nice and on top of it.We arrived two hours before check in and they checked us in without any hesitation. The rooms were beautiful - looked very new. They were clean, big, and decorated very nicely.
There were even very fancy toiletries. There was a DVD player, CD player, and VCR in the room as well. We had a nice balcony overlooking the pool. The lobby is fantastic - art deco style - very clean. The two pools are beautiful - there is a long infinity one that few people ever went into, except to swim laps, and there is another one that was busier, but never crowded. The landscaping is gorgeous - flowers everywhere! There is even a cute bar that serves drinks and lunch by the pool. The area on the beach is great - not in the super-crowded area, but still happening (my husband and I are only 25 and into the party atmosphere). We got chairs, towels, and an umbrella with our room. And there were very attentive waiters coming out to take drink orders or whatever you needed. The bar off the lobby is beautiful - very art deco. We went every night for a pre-dinner drink.I checked out the gym (but never got around to working out) and that was a good size and very clean, with new looking equipment. The maid service was great - came twice daily - once during the day and once while we were out partying at night. They had turn down service every night and left a weather report for the next day, so we could plan ahead. The last day, they took our bags after we checked out, so we could go to the beach before we had to leave. The guys at the door were very friendly and always helpful in grabbing us a cab or whatever. The location is the best - between the Lowes and the Delano and across the street from Lincoln Road. While I was there I saw one of the guys from "Queer Eye" - he was staying there, so obviously I am not the only one who thinks this place is great! You will not be disappointed - I was looking for a fancy, beautiful, glamorous hotel and that is what the National is!

Terrible Experience with Reservations/Front Desk

from Varkiza
After visiting the National Hotel while staying next door at the Delano and after reading some of the great reviews on this website, my wife and I decided to book for our next visit. Within a 24 hour period I was quoted rates for the same room with a $180 discrepancy. The reservations person who quoted the higher price had an offensive and rude attitude, to say the least. I then transferred to a hotel manager who was quite gracious, who spoke with reservations and informed me that the matter had been cleared up and that the manager of reservations would call me back shortly for a booking.....seven hours (and another phone call) later I never heard from anyone. I then spoke with another hotel manager who could not have cared less about my treatment. I never got to stay there and would not even if it were for free !

South Beach Classic

from trippy036
This was my second stay at the National. Everything I remembered, the restored 1940s vibe, the beautiful long pool, the easy walk to the beach, was still there. In addition, my city view room had been renovated and was very comfortable, with light wood furniture and a small but elegant bathroom. Service was courteous, especially at breakfast, when at least four people made sure we had everything we needed (including some heater warmth!). Some things could still be updated, such as the rickety pool and beach chairs (compare those to the plush divans they offer at the Shore Club...wow!), but overall this hotel is right on, especially for the price.

Top Local Tips for Miami

South Beach Art Deco Tour Do take the Art Deco Walking Tour....fascinating overview of the history of South Beach, it's architecture and of course the gossipy who-lived-where bits! Buy lots of water on route, it's quite a lengthy tour and the weather likely to be v hot! Great photo opportunities!

Villa Vizcaya It's a peace of old and authentic Europe with original furnitures from the Reinassance period

TAXIS THEY ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE AND THE BEST WAY TO GET AROUND BESIDES WALKING. RENTALS WILL BE VERY COSTLY TO PARK
