What to expect... St. John can be a little bit of a challenge. Of the VI's I found the locals to be the least helpful. If you are staying in the Cruz Bay area, you really don't need a cab or rental car. Everything worth doing is pretty much in walking distance. I was there on a Friday evening and some things just shut down about 5pm. If you don't mind walking and can handle some of the obtuse tendencies of the local hospitality workers, it's not a bad place. IMO, St. John is a better place to just stay at a resort. For the money you will spend on St. John try a few days on Virgin Gorda instead.
