Terrible Customer Service!!

I have stayed at the Mayfair for years, however, the staff has had a turnover, it seems, and the customer service was horrible! All the way from attempting to make a reservation (which should have been my first clue) --I requested a certain room number and the representative said, "to take a certain room request would require me to have to go out of my way." Enough said. Definitely do NOT recommend!

The noise from the street was unbearable. Rooms are fine and service is adequate. Did not seem like a 4 star property to me. I repeat, the noise from the street was terrible. We had people in 8 rooms and everyone complained about the outside noise and lack of noise proofing in the rooms.

I stayed for 5 days during the first week of January 2006. The renovation to a full fledged Kimpton hotel is almost complete. The restaurant and bar are now open, as is the exercise facility and spa. Only thing left is some final room updates and finishing the pool on the roof and the second bank of elevators, as far as I can tell. The bottom line: very high end in room appointments, staff service, and, especially, the fine restaurant, Ginger Grove. I plan on making this my perpetual Miami/Coconut Grove hotel.
Dated & unsanitary

Room was unsanitary, food debris under furniture, furniture and carpet was worn and stained with cigarette burns in a non-smoking room. Very poor (low) water pressure in shower. Complimentary internet service in room was not working. Staff was so-so. Unwilling or unable to correct problems. Will not stay at this hotel in future unless property is refurbished.

loved this hotel!!

from tml0701
My boyfriend and I went here for a week and loved it!! It is in a great location, you can walk everywhere in coconut grove. We received champagne when we arrived, the gardens in the middle of the hotel were absolutely beautiful. Our room had a king size bed a sitting area with a couch and table and a piano. The bathroom was really nice as well. We had a balcony with a hottub but the water wasn't that hot. But no worries we went to the top of the hotel where the pool and hottub were and no one ever was there, it was like we were the only ones that knew there was a huge hottub upstairs and we stayed in there until 3am the pool was warm almost like a hottub. We really had a great time and I would recommend this hotel to anyone!!!

swanky hotel, great location

from GtownMed
stayed here the saturday after thanksgiving... had a great experience. it's definitely impressive, driving up and being greeted as though you were a celebrity, even though we were in a beat up rental car. from the valet and housekeeping to the front desk personnel, everyone was extremely courteous and friendly. it was never "hi how are you", it was "welcome to the mayfair house hotel, we hope you enjoy your stay". this is not a hotel that i could easily afford to stay in on a regular basis, but for one night on our anniversary, it was well worth it. the location is excellent, right in the middle of everything. the rooms are wild, with the leopard print carpet and the rich colored fabrics which reminded me of being in some sort of casbah. if you want to treat yourself to a night in a swanky hotel and pretend to be someone famous for one night, i would highly recommend the mayfair. price paid per night, 169, booked directly through the hotel.

Nice Place

from A TripAdvisor Member
Me and my girlfriend stayed at Mayfair for one night on October 16 to October 17, 2004. The place is very nice, & romantic, I've been to several other hotels before, and this was one of the nicest. I reserved online, so check in only took about 8 minutes, and customer service were great & freindly. Some readers above metnion the wierd fuzzy smell as you enter the room. I did smell it , but thats becuase the temperature is constantly changing, but its no big deal, only feel it a few seconds as you enter.

The spa is the only thing that I could not get to work either, however I may not have followed instructions properly. And one thing I must disagree the rooms are nice but they are not suits, infact none of the Mayfiar Suites are actual suites they are all regular hotel size rooms.
The hotel is dog freindly but I did not see any dogs, and everything was very clean and nice.

However some negatives:

I paid $184.00 per night, each room includes some sodas and snacks. But nothing is cold, everything in the mini- refrigerator has to be paid seperately, which I find unfair, becuase for that price, they could give at least free water. Second, local calls are not free either, most hotels in the same area of the same rating offer free local calls. Third room has no radio, only a speaker with one station which the only thing you could do is turn On or Off. And lastly the room was really cold, but the heater never worked and it never got warm. We left it freezing cold.

But overall nice place, will probably go back. However wont pay more than $100 per night, its not worth pay more than that. I give it 3 star rating..

Definitely a 4-5 star hotel!

I having been a regular guest of the Mayfair House Hotel since 1993 and my experience has been wonderful, year after year! Staff/service, food, amenities & suites are PHENOMENAL! This is the best hotel I ever stayed in! (and I have stayed at several upscale hotels)

A Great Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
I paid $90 per night in late Feb - early March. I thought the rooms were great and the atmosphere just as good. I loved having a jacuzzi in the room. The only problem was the water pressure was low and the temperature was hard to maintain. This place did a wonderful job of keeping me relaxed for 3 nights when I needed it most. I will definitely stay here again if in the area.

Great place to stay! A lot of celebrities!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is wonderful! I stayed there while attending a UM game (hotel is close to UM)

Saw a few players from Miami Heat in the bar. Concierge said celebrities often stay there.

Amazing hotel!

from WKD11
This is definitely not a "4 STAR" hotel. I just spent the night of July 4th there with my girlfriend. I used to always hear how this was a nice place (and thought I was getting a deal at $109/NT). Well not anymore. For the most part the staff was great, but here are the problems:

1 - When we got up to our room, it wasn't ready/cleaned yet--towels on the floor, bed was stripped, q-tips on the bathroom counter. We were given a new room right away (within minutes), but it was smaller.

2 - These rooms are not "suites". I'm sure they have real suites, but they say all of their rooms are suites. Both rooms we were in were single rooms with a nice size bathroom.

3 - The hot tub on the balcony (one of the main draws) appeared very unappealing with very old, worn interior with some rust stains. We did not even go in it.

4 - Pool was closed for "renovations". I asked for how long and was told "for a while". They said I should have been told when I booked, but I wasn't. Make sure you ask if you decide you really want to stay here.

5 - Ice machine was broken. I called at approx 11 PM & they said they would send someone to our room with ice -- I fell asleep around midnight still waiting.

6 - Just in general, the place looks pretty worn. Nothing is new or in good condition - more like a 2-3 star hotel.

7 - When checking out, I was asked "Was everything okay?" I responded simply with "No". Her only response was "That's not good" - she didn't even ask what was wrong. By that point I didn't even want to waste my time, so we left.

So as you could probably guess, I couldn't recommend this hotel in general. I would say if you don't expect much, don't plan on using the pool or hot-tub, and get a rate of around $70-80/Nt, then it might be an okay choice.

Birthday Celebration

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have been staying at the Mayfair for over 10 years to celebrate my birthday..........I have never been treated with anything but the utmost respect & dignity. The staff is wonderful & very attentive. Where else can you recieve champagne upon checking in for the price of $100.00 per night for a room with a private balcony with a japense tub on it? The rooms are wonderful & the patios with the tub are the best! I think it's one of the most romantic places I have ever stayed. The 7th pool & pool bar are great fun. The location is wonderful. Coconut Grove is such a diverse community with something for everyone. I cannot begin to tell you how many friends I have recommended to the Mayfair & everyone has loved it. Keep up the great work & I'll see you on my birthday this year!

In the heart of Coconut Grove

from mannekinpis
This hotel is in the heart of Coconut Grove, and is about a 15 drive from the airport. It's a very odd hotel, check out their website for pictures... It struck me as very "Alice in Wonderland" with odd size furnishings, funky colored walls, and unusual artwork. We booked an executive suite with two queen beds. The room was narrow but long. The narrowness is of the room is offset by mirrored walls on both sides. There was a mini bar, but no refridgerated items. The bathroom was quite large, marble lined, with a long (but narrow) tub. On the smallish balcony was a Japanese style (tall and round) hot tub which would hold 2 people comfortably. The location is great for shopping, restaurants, and bars. All are within easy walking distance. All in all, I would say that this hotel does not live up to its potential as an avante-garde establishment and comes off as being a little worn around the edges. I would, however, stay there again.

Another Great Time!!!
