Historical Traveller Reviews of Kent Hotel

I had a great time.

from A TripAdvisor Member
Well I stayed at the Kent in June. I enjoyed the rooms alot. It was really art deco and clean. the only thing they need to improve on is the small tv's , Breakfest, and the painting on the walls. But besides that everything was great! The staff was very friendly. Housekeeping was very sweet and especially Andrea (the maneger) she was very helpful with directions ,Maribel was very helpful with clubs and Resturants and Erica was very sweet. There was a guy but I olny saw him onec He seem cool. Well I'll recommend The Kent for anyone that is going to Miami for fun. The Kent is near to all the hot spots you would want to go in south beach.

Clean with Contemporary Furniture

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was my first time in South Beach so I didn't know what to expect from these boutique hotels. Hotel Kent was suprisingly nice. Yes, most of these hotels are older but they weren't gross. We booked a room online (Travelocity). I requested a queen bed but ended up getting doubles. It was fine, because the room was bigger. The bathroom was small but it had everything you needed. The rooms/bathroom were clean. They had light wood furniture and hard wood floors. The entire hotel had a contemporary style. There was a safe in the rooms, which was nice. The only thing that I could complain about was the trash pick up at 6am. It's on the right side of the building. It's very loud and it will wake you up. We only paid $170 for two nights. My friend stayed across the street at Hotel Nash for $135 a night. That was a nice hotel too. You really can't go wrong with any of these boutique hotels in south beach.

The Ladies where Great

from A TripAdvisor Member
I had a great time in Miami, then there was the hotel, great, great great. I really don't know what alot of these other people are looking for, but for the price, location, I was quite pleased. Went down for a Bachlor party and had the time of my like and then come back to the hotel and then treated us like Kings. Had alot of information on where to go, where to eat, party, buy clothes and the staff was too good!Hell I'd come back just to see the staff! I miss you ladies already

Hip but average

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed here for one night in April 2004. The lobby is exactly as it is in the pictures, maybe slightly aged. The rooms are super-clean. If you care about lots of light in your room, bring a lamp along because the style of these rooms is basically purplish-pink walls with well-placed but a limited number of halogen lights. Very atmospheric, but not very utilitarian. Avoid the first floor because the windows are super-thin and there's a lot of noise from dumptrucks, etc in the back alley at sundawn. I did not have much interaction with the staff, but the receptionist was not friendly at all. But I only paid $70 + tax for my room so I couldn't complain.

Clean and good location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We picked this hotel after reading the reviews and were very happy with it. The staff was nice, the room was small but everything was clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The location was ideal for both the beach and going out. They also provided beach towels and there was internet access in the lobby. We didn't have any problems and found it to be a nice, clean, no-frills hotel. Would stay there again for the price.

Good until we checked out!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at The Kent April 6-9 and were very pleased until we were checking out of the hotel. They had put a $50 charge on our bill to replace a white towel that had make-up on it. We thought this was ridiculous as everyone knows that bleach will take make-up out of a white towel. They told us that the towel had to be discarded which was not true if they were cleaning them properly. I decided to write this review to warn people about this. After a VERY long discussion with the manager he took the charge off. Then three days after I get home the $50 charge was on my credit card statement. I called and talked to the general manager who was very nice and helpful and reversed the charge.
Other than this incident, I was very pleased with our stay. The staff had been very nice and helpful until this incident. Our room was small but they were clean. We loved the location. I would still stay there again but I would probably bring my own towels!

Cute and Cozy

from kolinamae
It was really cute and cozy. Location was perfect!! It was walking distance from the beach, shopping, and most of the clubs. Staff was really nice and accommadating. Bathroom was small but overall sufficient. Note: don't use the elevator, use the stairs...it's alot faster. The best thing about the hotel was the location.

Had a really good stay!

I chose the Kent Hotel while looking on the Internet because it looked funky and a little different. First of all we thought everyone was really friendly and helpful. The manager knew a lot about where to go and what to do and most of the other employees where really great! We did pay around $16 a day for parking, but I thought we would have to do that anywhere. The rooms and bathrooms were small and the bathroom was kind of dark, but they were decorated kind of modern and cool and had Aveda bath products. It was perfect for the price really. We paid $87 a night off Hotels and I thought it was worth it. Where they couldn't give you luxury, they at least made it funky and were friendly to us! I liked that they had beach towells to use. It is conveniently located in the midst of all the fun. If you're looking for a decent place to stay and not spend a lot of money, this is great!!! I can't believe so many people complained about the service because we were actually thrilled with how friendly everyone was.

Cozy Chic Hotel with understandable problems

from ketagyrl
I read some of the previous reviews, and some of the complaints are true but unwarranted. For example, the hotel was overbooked that weekend because of a huge annual convention. Every person who books a reservation should definitely confirm prior to arrival, especially if you're arriving from a foreign country AND during a convention. The hotel did its best to accomodate those who did not have rooms by finding rooms in other hotels.

I found the hotel staff to be very friendly and professional, they handled their overbooking crisis very well. Brandon was the nicest of the staff and handled all our questions adequately, as did the rest of the staff. I myself had some problems with my reservation, I received a single bed instead of double beds, but they corrected that by providing me with a rollaway at no charge.

The rooms and decor are very well done, all purple or pink with stainless steel decor. The bath products are Aveda. Room service changed our sheets and cleaned our bathroom every day. A small continental breakfast was served every morning, with juice and coffee.
Towel service is provided for the beach. Free internet access available in the lobby.

Parking in South Beach is horrendous in general, luckily the hotel had parking next door for $16 a day.

I would probably stay there again; the location was key and the rooms were great. I wish there was a pool instead of a garden.

Very poor service with attitude

from Rudders71
After a long flight from a cold wintery UK, I was really looking forward to Miami. Unfortunately this hotel did not have our reservations, the lollipop sucking reception did not seem to want to try and sort it out. Finally they gave us a room under the premis that I had to call the UK myself to see what had happened (sister company had booked us in). There were no apologies, they did not try and call the UK, they actually refused to do it. Service with a lollipop is not acceptable. It is a great location, but the service from this hotel is appalling. Other recepetion staff struggled to give us details of public transport, getting my dry cleaning back and sufficient towels.
The reception and the bar area (there is no bar) are not as nice as the photos.

Top Local Tips for Miami

Boutique's, etc. There are lots of boutiques & stores on Collins Ave. but there are alot more stores on Lincoln Rd.

DON'T DOUBLE TIP!! Most restaurants in South Beach have a 18% gratuity included already, pay attention or you'll end up leaving a tip twice - and most times the first tip isn't even warranted!!

Parking Parking is a nightmare on South Beach, and for what they charge you, you would think that they should hand wash and vacuum your car. You won't need a car much in south beach since everything is walking distance, so park at a garage where they charge much less than the hotel valet...save a lot of money!
