Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Shelley
Great Hotel I would stay there again
from A TripAdvisor Member
Thought the hotel was great. Very clean, and well furnished. Not alot of frills, but for the price it was great. The hotel is a very good location on Collins Ave. close to everything in South Beach. I was there at the tail end of Spring Break, so I know it was probably louder than usual, but it really didn't bother me. I would reccommend this hotel. If you have an option make sure you get a room with the king size bed. Happy Travels. ;0)
Had a great time!!!!!

I took my fiance to South Beach as a birthday gift and after doing some research, as well as calling and speaking to hotel personnel, decided to stay at Hotel Shelley. My fiance and I had the best time. The location is within walking distance to everything and the hotel staff was extremely friendly and hospitable. (Reminder: Give a smile, you might get a smile. Speak to others with respect, you will get respect in return). I don't know if he is still there, but Leo was our bartender for the free 6-10 happy hour....he was the best. He was able to give us some good ideas of where to visit, where to go for the good nightlife, where to stay away from. He was even able to get us some VIP passes to some of the clubs. Let me tell you, we were at the Hotel Shelley Happy hour every night. We got to meet other guests of the hotel, visiting from abroad and from other parts of the US. I left there with a good feeling, kudos to the staff, I would stay there again without a doubt.

Okay, before my friend and I decided to book a hotel, we went to tripadvisor to check out the reviews. Near perfect reviews. I mean, there was not one BAD review. So we booked it. Open bar from 6-10pm, free breakfast, hotel shuttle, etc.....how could it go wrong. We got there, and we did not get the 2 full beds like we had requested. We had even called a month in advance to secure the 2 full beds and all they said was that it was booked solid. Fine, whatever. We get to the rooms, and it is literally like a box. When we tried to turn the light switch on, it did not work. We went back downstairs, had somebody come backup with us and he turned on the "lamp" that was in the room. It was still so dark that we could not even see. It literally was like a nightlight. We had to spend the first 20 minutes complaining and begging for a brighter lamp....which they found somewhere after some searching. From our stay, 2 of the days, the water was shut down for a few hours during the day. The receptionist was very UN-ACCOMDOTATING. At one point, when we first got there, he recieved a phone call and told someone that there WAS 2 full beds available.....RIGHT IN FRONT OF my friend and I after telling us there weren't. The free breakfast is a joke. Some toast, milk, and corn flakes. The ONLY good thing about this hotel was the open bar and the fact that it was in the heart of sobe. At one point, room service took our towels but did not restock it. I was on my way out to get some more from front desk, but I saw somebody that worked there with a towel tray in the hall. When I asked for one, all she could tell me was to request it from room service. When we tried to take showers, the water pressure is so light that it takes literally an hour to shower. The curtains in the room are paper thin and white......so be prepared and bring an eye-patch.....the bathroom door did not even close all the way....there's no lock on it.....overall, I really, really did not think I would run into any problems, simply because of all the wonderful reviews.....but I have to say that I was disappointed. There were no apologies or any vouchers for some free drinks for any of the problems that we ran into......and all the otherhotels that I have been to in the past would try to be accomodating and make up for it in someway. Not Hotel Shelly. Think before book at this hotel.
ll go back!

I'm so glad I lucked out and stayed at the Hotel Shelley. It was my first time in South Beach so I had no idea when I chose the hotel that the location would be so perfect. A block from the ocean and the brouhaha of Ocean Drive, but enough away that it's relatively quiet.
Also a block from Washington where the buses run. The hotel is part of a group of hotels in the neighborhood that collectively have a shuttle from the airport, too, running on the hour (and you could set your watch by it last weekend). It was clean and simple but the bathroom was newly renovated and they provided enough towels and pillows for a family of five. Free continental breakfast, and free evening cocktails....what more could you want?
Thank you Shelley!

For just driving up to this hotel and running in and asking for their rates, I think we did great! We paid 95 dollars for the night with free drinks and breakfast. We knew there would probably be a catch with both those promos but it's still a great deal in one of the pricest cities in the country. This hotel had such a charming feel to it and was located in such a lively part of South Beach. Our room also looked directly onto the street, which was a huge bonus!! Oh, and not to mention, we were 20 seconds from the beach! We hope to go back soon!
Very very Displeased

THis was the most depressing part of our trip. My wife and I reserved this hotel, with the thought that Happy hour sounds great and the breakfast was an added bonus, BUT when we arrived They told us that there was not a room for us.THEY OVERBOOKED. We reserved this room with our credit card. And were sent a conformation the day before our arrival. They said they set us up with a hotel down the street. What a joke!! it was a mile away from where we wanted to be and was not nice at all. I went back and asked to talk with the manager and after a few minutes a conversation with her. I found out that if you make your reservations with a server I.E. expedia etc... they hold your room but if you reserve directly with the hotel it means nothing.!! The manager told me that they tried to get in touch with me. WHAT A LIE!!! they sent me a conformation one day prior. Needless to say this place is a joke and I would not recommend it.!!!! STAY somwhere else.
best deal in south beach!

my mom and i recently stayed at the shelley (found a great deal on priceline), and wow, we were so surprised! free airport shuttle, breakfast and cocktails! it is a charming little art deco hotel literally a block away from the beautiful beach and ocean. we felt very safe in this neighborhood, and there was so much fun stuff to do. hotel shelley is IMMACULATE, tastefully and discreetly stylish, and unpretentious! we can't wait to go back! only advice to offer- youve got to flag down that free shuttle bus!
Clean, Simple, Great Location!

Clean, simple and great location! I highly recommend if price is under $120 USD per night. Free airport shuttle (save $35 each way). Free breakfast - coffee, juice, bread, pastry, cereal (save $5 per breakfast). Free VIP night club passes but be at the club early by 10pm (save $20 per person per club). Free drinks (drinks with vodka) from 6pm to 10pm. 1 minute away from beach. Beach towel available at front desk. 30 seconds away from Mangos Tropical Club - the most lively latin club in Miami. For shopping, walk north on Washington Avenue up to Lincoln Park. Great deals on Sale items. For great price and cuban dishes, go to Lincoln Cafe in Lincoln Park. Go to Bayside for harborfront experience. Take $14 cruise (2h) on the bay to relax and see homes of famous stars. Outlet mall - take the free shuttle to airport and take the free shuttle from airport to Dolphin Outlet mall.
For fine neuvo latino dining, must go to Cacao restaurant in Coral Gables - must have chocolate dessert.
Wonderful location

This was our first time at Miami beach. This hotel and neighborhood gave us a wonderful feeling of being there! The hotel has an European style lobby and room, free night drinks at the hotel bar across the street, free breakfast at the place next to it. We really enjoyed the night scene around the neighborhood. Did not go to any clubs, but had some drinks at bars which were really SOBE atmosphere.
You might not like this hotel if you are looking for a nice standard chain American hotel. Yes, they have no free parking space, no card keys, no breakfast buffet. Room was small and dark, no closet drawers, even tub(our room), outside light was bright all night.
But so what? We paid only $50 in mid Jan. through net search. We got lots of Absolute in our free drinks, friendly staff, street parking....
was great!
A for Effort!

This hotel was as close as I would want to be to South Beach. One block away from the action. This hotel certainly did try hard and depending on what I was planning to do in Miami I might stay there again. The staff were friendly and very helpful, they offer a Complimentary "happy hour" which lasted 4 hours..... drink list was skimpy but the the thought was there! It was a pretty loud room... you could hear everything in the hallway as if it were in your room. The room was clean but definately the smallest room I had ever seen. Good value over all for $115.00 per night. If you stay here you do not need a car! They offer shuttle service to the airport and otherwise everthing you need is steps away.

Fox Parlor Restaurant on South Beach was a CON
Dont eat at the Fox Parlor on South Beach. Lovely patio, charming staff until you get the BILL. Staff offered the daily specials and did not inform us that we had ordered food for 10 people when there were only 3 of us. They did not inform us of the price of the entrees and hit us with a $500 bill. Staff gets 17% gratuity included in the bill - so they are sneaky about getting you to order BIG.
Saving on transportation
We took the metro around Miami for only a $1.50
