Very pleasant & helpful reception staff. Bit noisy rooms - street view.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Haddon Hall Hotel South Beach

Clean and Friendly. Nice location. Budget rooms.

from djbnews
I struggled with giving the Haddon Hotel two or three stars, but settled on three. What you are buying is a budget room in an expensive area. It seemed like most of the lesser-expensive hotels in South Beach are old -- i.e. 30-50 years old -- and therefore the rooms are smaller and ammenties are fewer. The swimming pool is very nice. And the owner and staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are quite dreary in terms of decor (then again, our room looked out over a rooftop ventilation system - you might get luckier), but clean and functional. There are even little stoves in them (which can save you money for lunch and such). The beds are clean, but a little hard, and the bathrooms are what I imagine you'd find in a private room at the YWCA - clean and functional, but that's about it. We had booked our room online, but when we got there, they didn't have any record of our booking. The owner, however, made sure that we got a room and was very courteous. It's in a GREAT location - walking distance to everything and the staff is knowledgeable about the area. If your budget is tight, which ours was, then the Haddon is a nice, simple place to stay - as long as your expectations are modest.

Good location not much else

Booked a travel package 48 hours in advance so didn't do ANY checking on the hotel. Should have. Stayed in a room that was decorated from old garage sale furniture and had a musty smell to it. Bedding and towels were clean so can't complain. And certainly the price was great. Great walking distance to the ocean, Ocean Drive and many places to eat and drink. You are certainly right in the middle of all the action but even the locals from the area never heard of the hotel. Next time I'll spend a little more.

It could have been a lot worse, so we were satisfied

I read all the reviews on Trip Advisor for numerous, budget hotels in South Beach. Our group (of 7) decided that the price at the Haddon Hall Hotel couldn't be beat ($59/night for 2 double beds and 4 person occupancy). So based on the previous comments posted, we wouldn't expect much. We'd expect the worse and hope for the best. All I can say is, I would consider staying here again, if the price was again a good deal. You can't beat the location, on Collins, directly across from Loewes Hotel/Resort, 2 blocks from Lincoln Ave, etc. The beach on Ocean drive is a few short blocks away. As for the staff, I expected to be treated like a $59/night guest, but was pleasantly surprised. No one had attitude and in general, they were quite pleasant and accomodating. My biggest fear was the cleanliness of the room, I already figured the decor would be less than desireable. I would say the decor is more second-hand antique than "art deco" but again, remember $59/night. So on a scale on 1 to 5, I would give the cleanliness a 2. We did a "sheet check" and they passed. The towels are a different story, clean but some permanent stains of mascara seemed to show up on a few towels and the towels are very thin and aren't of very good quality. My last day though, my opinion changed slightly when I was sitting outside and saw housekeeping dusting down the wood blinds of the bedroom window. Most people don't clean their own blinds regularly so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were doing it and it made me think that the place wasn't as hideous as we made it out to be. Overall, considering how expensive South Beach is and how much money we went through ($300/person in less than 2 days) we were quite happy we had chosen to stay at Haddon for the price. We only showered and slept there, so it did its job. And I am a traveler that can stay in all types of conditions and depending on my needs and budget. For instance I've stayed at places like the Four Seasons in Santa Barbara, as well as a hotel in Turkey that hadn't been cleaned, ever, I think, with exposed pipes, dirty walls, etc. So if you are like me and can handle anything, I think the Haddon is an economical choice.

For the price - very good

I booked a room here and then read reviews and was quite nervous. The price was right $60 for a room with two double beds and a fridge. When I arrived a girl in the lobby warned me not to stay as it was "dirty".

I checked the room and for the price thought it was more than fine. The hotel is perfectly located.....close to everything and has a good size pool.

If you are on a budget and don't need anything fancy - this place is great. If you are bothered by outdated rooms then you can pay double and stay somewhere nicer.......

Old Miami Beach Art Deco

from A TripAdvisor Member
Definitely old Miami; 1960's decor, a bit musty, nice residents, but not quite what we expected in terms of comfort. One night only for this place, however, I loved the charm it has.

Not more than a night or two

from Key Traveler
The cons - hotel is old, the cable reception must come from antenna, ugly plumbing, butt ugly decor, creepy hallways, could smell nicer. The pros - clean towels, good shampoo, soap, great shower power, comfortable beds, strong air conditioning, excellent location. This hotel was cheap. We paid $60 for one Tuesday night stay. We definitely got what we paid for. The hotel has no parking but a garage is one block north. One block east is Ocean Drive and everything on it. This hotel is best used if you're only there to bathe and sleep. That's what we did and it worked out.

Are you kidding me?

My first mistake was not reading TripAdvisor. Musty, mildewy, dank . . . While the wrecking crew across the street was knocking down a building, they should have continued on Haddon Hall. Is it in a prime location? Yes. That is the only positive thing I have to say about this property. To start, the blue ultra-suede sofas in the lobby have brown armrests and seats--as in dirty. The lobby floor has not been cleaned since the mop and bucket were invented. What hotel in any major city still uses a non-computerized reservation system? My grandson found toast from a previous guest in the kitchenette oven in our room. Another couple in our party found dirty (used) towels in their dresser drawer. Paint peeling in the shower. Bedroom lamp didn't work. No alarm clock in the room. This might seem knitpicky, but it just added to the 'flop house' feel of the place. Yes, the sheets and pillows did appear clean. Thank goodness. So you ask, what did we expect for the price in the heart of the art deco district? We expected honesty in the rating system. This hotel is rated 3-star on Hotels . I do not fault the hotel. But shame on you Hotels . And shame on me for not doing more research. As you read some of the previous comments here on TripAdvisor, some people find this hotel a good place to stay. I contend that those that are use to 3-star and above accommodations will find their stay here absymal. If you choose to stay in the South Beach area, I suggest you pay the extra $100 and stay in a "real" 3-star or above hotel. The price was too good to be true--and I fell for it. My bad . . . my oh so very real bad. One last note, the room keys are actual metal keys. This is about as secure as leaving the room door open as the keys can be easily copied by a previous guest. Enough already . . .

One true review.....

Before I booked o hotel I did what you are doing right now......checking peoples review of this hotel. You really get what you pay for....an average hotel, the hotel was clean the staff was friendly. I think that if you are going to Miami to just sit in your hotel than shell out the extra dough, but if you are going to enjoy wonderful Miami this is the hotel. It is near the nightlife...so you donot have to go far to party....the pool is nice...the beach is less thatn a block away....so my true rewiew go for it....and enjoy yourself....please feel free to e-mail me if you would like to know all the hot clubs, bars and placrs to eat. This place would be a bad hotel in a 3rd world country! Old, small, Dirty, smelly, rude staff, and way over priced!!!

Great Hotel, good location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here for 5 nights, and had an excellent stay. The rooms are clean and in good condition. The pool is clean with lots of room around for relaxing.

The location is less than 5 minutes walk from Lincoln, and 30secs from the beach. It's also next to JFD (Jerry's Famous Deli_ which is good - if you don't mind the poor service at the place - but great food.

The staff were extremely helpful - and the whole stay was excellent value...

Top Local Tips for Miami

Lincoln Road Mall and Espanola Way If you go to South Beach, you need go no further for drinks/dining than Lincoln Road Mall (it's an outdoor area, 'mall' is deceiving) and Espanola Way. Just ask at your hotel, they will direct you. There are numerous outdoor restaurants (all with indoor seating if that is your preference) and you can choose to sit at any of them even if you don't wish to eat. Espanola Way is incredibly pretty and you can pretend you are in a different country for a while. Lincoln Road Mall is tailor-made for fabulous people-watching.

If you looking for a good Italian restaurant... There is a good Italian restaurant on Espanola way, south beach miami, called "Hosteria Romana." They have real homemade pasta. The Menu has a wide variety. I ordered spagetti with calamari and tometo sauce which was fantastic. There is a sister store on Ocean Dr where I also ate the same thing (spagetti with calamari and tometo sauce) But I recomend the one on Espanola way because I thought it was more tasty.

stay here stay here is you want a warm friendly family run business
