What a view!
from A TripAdvisor MemberFun but dirty
from A TripAdvisor MemberNo thanks
from A TripAdvisor MemberAs others have said, room quality is hit or miss. A friend had a lovely view, huge room, etc. Mine was nothing special. Wouldn't stay here again.
Needs TLC and Organization
from dager35We got there on June 4. On the outside coming in, the hotel lloks enormous and beautiful. We were very excited. The valet cab area had many nice and helpful people waiting to get you were you needed to go. We went to check in and our 1st problem presented itself. It seems that Hilton had sold the hotel and our deposit had to be repayed back to us meaning we had to pay the new owners a seperate deposit. I could say this was just us that this was a problem but over our stay we found many angry people at the front desk. Im not sure if this was the problem but without fail many patrons were agitated all the time at the desk.
We went our room and to my disappointment we were to stay in the older part of the hotel. Sure enough our room was nasty. The rug was wet and musty. The floor had not been vacuumed including wrappers on the floor. The bathtubs have dirty tubs that need probably a new face. We were moved to another room but quickly found cigarette butts, the musty smell.... i really could go on. We decided to go to the pool area. Honestly this is really the best part of the hotel. The kids area is very nice. The main pool is also beautiful. I just do not understand why the kids area is off limits after 5pm. There is a small lazy river and slide area that I do see needing to be supervised but the octupus area which is perfect for reallly young kids is simple and really needs to be open.
We ate at the buffet which was OK but at 20 bucks a head wayyyyy overpriced. They do of course put gratuity in the check which seems to be the norm for all of Miami.
As for organization. We got our rental car the day after our arrival. We also got a fridge for our room which is way smart. They evidently lost our slip for both rentals. Its suppose to cost 5 dollars a day for the fridge and 23 for the valet parking per day. The valet manager essentially coud not find our info so we ended not paying. The fridge simply wasnt billed for. Obviously this worked to our bebefit but it seems to me this is the big problem here. It was like dealing with the Clampets.
There are tons of places there on miami beach. At near 200 dollars a pop this place is way wrong. If you have family head to North miami beach. If you are a couple or single go south beach. Either way take your business away from here. Trust me you could have a good to decent experience here but there are tons of places much better than here.
Pleasantly surprised
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe property is beautiful, especially by South Beach standards. The pool was huge, clean and it had cascading waterfalls. There were plenty of lounge chairs, plenty of trees for shade, plenty of towels, hammocks, etc. The fitness center was very nice and had a lot of different cardio machines and a nice selection of free weights. The gym cost $10 per day or $25 for the week. It was clean and they provided towels.
It's true that the food and drinks are more expensive than in other places. Having known that, we stocked up on snacks and drinks so we really didn't eat on the property. The only other negative aspect is the valet fee. It's $23 per day which is about $8-10 above average for other hotels in the area. But, we never had a problem with the valet service...average wait time was 5 minutes.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and definitely stay here again!
Excellent Hotel! Excellent Room! Excellent Price!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWell guess what... exactly what happened. No smoking rooms available... so they tell me that I have to go to the Fontainebleau Tower to check-in. Im already smiling walking across the lobby... I cross the new parking circle they built and I walk into the Fontainebleau Tower through the tunnel. This place is awesome! WOW! The check-in was smooth and courteous.. he let me know that because there are no more smoking rooms they had to place me in the tower in a Jr. Suite with a balcony... pfft! Im like "OK, Sure.. No Problem" I found myself on the 17th floor with a OceanView balcony Jr. Suite! What a great view... the room was great... brand new everything... Flat screen TV... a CD Player/Boombox... even a Kitchenette with microwave and fridge. The amenities within the hotel are great. The tower even has its own private pool on the 7th floor.
I like it so much... on Sunday 29th I went to the front desk and asked for my 2nd night there... Stayed through Monday the 30th
I would definetly recommend the Fontainebleau Tower to anyone. I suggest you go to this hotel soon since I do belive they are building a Fontainebleau III (Private Condos for Living) and from what I saw its being built infront of the Fontainebleau Tower... which I worry will block the same great view I had in my room... depending on how tall the condo will be.
Definetly would go again... Wish I was there right now...
Very nice
from A TripAdvisor Memberwe had a great time here
from A TripAdvisor MemberBut overall, I have to say that we will remember our stay fondly.
And no, I do not work for hilton.
Giant debacle. I was embarrased for the staff
from myperiodontistMy wife and I had arrived on a Friday around 10am from a cruise ship to find our room was not ready. Since the check-in time is 3:00pm, this seemed reasonable but I had hoped they might set aside rooms for people they knew were going to arrive early. Never-the-less, we occupied our time at the pool which was not crowded and clean. When we returned to check in at 3:00pm, our room was still not ready. This appeared to be a common occurence as there were at least 5 other couples who were also waiting for their rooms. After a couple of hours, our room was finally available but we were surprised to be placed in a canal view room as we had booked an ocean view. When I called the reception desk, they said they would take care of the situation and call back in 10 minutes but they never called. To make things worst, at around 3:00am we were woken by the people next door who were making a lot of noise. We also noticed that even conversational level voices could be heard from next door and the hallway.
The following night the hotel hosted a local high school prom so we did not sleep much that evening with all of the kids making noise all night. When we finally checked out after a restless night, we noticed more than two hundred dollars in additional charges had been added to our bill. I called the reception desk and requested they correct the bill. They said they would correct the bill and call back. When they did not call back, I tried to check out through the "indemand" television checkout which did not work. Finally, I called the front desk and checked out of the hotel over the phone. I still have reservations that the billing mistakes were corrected and will definately be checking my monthly bank statement to be sure they did not overcharge.
We booked this hotel with it's rates because we was looking for a good hotel to spend a nice weekend. Our expectations were absolutely not met in this hotel. In fact, we would have been better off sleeping on the beach. If you are looking for a nice hotel in South Beach, keep looking.
Mixed feelings but mostly good
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel changed administrations during my stay, it is now known as the Fontainbleau Resort, not a Hilton anymore. The transition was handled ok except for billing problems I heard about but luckily did not experience myself. .
Top Local Tips for Miami
AURA Excellent Italian restaurant on Lincoln Road. Great prices, great food! Look for Jay, and tell him Sean from NY sent you.
wat happens at fontainebleau amazing hotel but ppl attach the pools
Little Havana - Whatever you do don't take a cab there if you're in South Beach! If you have a rental car, use it!!! I did not know how far it was, and took a cab, $35 later I decided it was a bad idea. We went to this great, inexpensive, cuban food place called Versailles... can you say YUMMY! getting back to south beach was an adventure. I was not impressed with Calle Ocho, though you gotta love the people. We tried taking the bus back, but it took us downtown!!! Wasted half a day!
