View of Atlantic was great, but the room was dirty. Paint was peeling of the ceiling in the shower. I don't know about you, but for $484.77 a night, I expect a whole lot more.
Wonderful time!

There are activites for children, young adults and more mature vacationers at the Fontainebleau. It is right on the beach and the pools are amazing if you would like to stay out of the sand. I went with a group of 20 of us from ages 7 months to 77 years old. We all enjouyed ourselves. The night show was fun and of course Miami itself was a blest!

What a view!

If you are assigned a room numbered 564 or above, ask to get moved to higher floor immediately. The rooms on this floor all have a "lovely" view of the roof and all the heating and air conditioning equipment and no view of the ocean. Additionally these rooms are significantly smaller then the rooms in the main tower and needed to be updated. The bathroom was especially outdated. All in all, not a good experience.

Fun but dirty

I read a few reviews before I decided to stay at this hotel resort. I was a little worried when I read some of the comments. Well, you will have fun even though it rained everyday. The toilet was dirty. I had to call housekeeping several times before I got the toilet cleaned. Their service is very slow. The bedspread is not so clean. But my mother liked the view. Everything else was good but the bathroom. Also, when I got there their were no bellman to take our bags to the room. The person at the desk told me they were all out and it would take a long time. I had to carry my bags and my mother's bags. Mind you, she is 78 years old with lung cancer. Overall its a fun place but in need of repairs. So, if you don't mine a little dirt. Then, I suggest that you stay there. That was my first experience with this hotel. I might try it again. But don't wait for housekeeping to come promptly.

No thanks

Beach and boardwalk and pool areas are nice. But recent change in ownership lead to long check in waits and billing confusion during my stay. My room was clean, but not what one was led to believe by the hotel's site. Simple tasks (checking luggage with bellman) seemped to stump the staff. I was afraid to leave my bag as I watched one frustrated guest try to retrieve his bag. (This after waiting around for bellman to appear at the unstaffed luggage check stand.)
As others have said, room quality is hit or miss. A friend had a lovely view, huge room, etc. Mine was nothing special. Wouldn't stay here again.

Needs TLC and Organization

After reading a few stories on here about this hotel, I too was worried about what to expect. Simply put this place will eventually lose its luster if the old parts of the hotel aren't fixed.
We got there on June 4. On the outside coming in, the hotel lloks enormous and beautiful. We were very excited. The valet cab area had many nice and helpful people waiting to get you were you needed to go. We went to check in and our 1st problem presented itself. It seems that Hilton had sold the hotel and our deposit had to be repayed back to us meaning we had to pay the new owners a seperate deposit. I could say this was just us that this was a problem but over our stay we found many angry people at the front desk. Im not sure if this was the problem but without fail many patrons were agitated all the time at the desk.
We went our room and to my disappointment we were to stay in the older part of the hotel. Sure enough our room was nasty. The rug was wet and musty. The floor had not been vacuumed including wrappers on the floor. The bathtubs have dirty tubs that need probably a new face. We were moved to another room but quickly found cigarette butts, the musty smell.... i really could go on. We decided to go to the pool area. Honestly this is really the best part of the hotel. The kids area is very nice. The main pool is also beautiful. I just do not understand why the kids area is off limits after 5pm. There is a small lazy river and slide area that I do see needing to be supervised but the octupus area which is perfect for reallly young kids is simple and really needs to be open.
We ate at the buffet which was OK but at 20 bucks a head wayyyyy overpriced. They do of course put gratuity in the check which seems to be the norm for all of Miami.
As for organization. We got our rental car the day after our arrival. We also got a fridge for our room which is way smart. They evidently lost our slip for both rentals. Its suppose to cost 5 dollars a day for the fridge and 23 for the valet parking per day. The valet manager essentially coud not find our info so we ended not paying. The fridge simply wasnt billed for. Obviously this worked to our bebefit but it seems to me this is the big problem here. It was like dealing with the Clampets.
There are tons of places there on miami beach. At near 200 dollars a pop this place is way wrong. If you have family head to North miami beach. If you are a couple or single go south beach. Either way take your business away from here. Trust me you could have a good to decent experience here but there are tons of places much better than here.

Pleasantly surprised

Before my vacation, I had checked the reviews on this site and was really worried about staying here. But, I have to say that I was really happy once we had arrived. We arrived at the hotel at noon and had absolutely no troubles checking in early. Check-in took about 15 minutes, but only because my person had trouble with the computer. We requested a room in the Chateau Building (thanks to the advice of someone on Trip Advisor) and the room was very nice. It wasn't fancy, but it was clean and the size of an average room in virtually any hotel.

The property is beautiful, especially by South Beach standards. The pool was huge, clean and it had cascading waterfalls. There were plenty of lounge chairs, plenty of trees for shade, plenty of towels, hammocks, etc. The fitness center was very nice and had a lot of different cardio machines and a nice selection of free weights. The gym cost $10 per day or $25 for the week. It was clean and they provided towels.

It's true that the food and drinks are more expensive than in other places. Having known that, we stocked up on snacks and drinks so we really didn't eat on the property. The only other negative aspect is the valet fee. It's $23 per day which is about $8-10 above average for other hotels in the area. But, we never had a problem with the valet service...average wait time was 5 minutes.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and definitely stay here again!

Excellent Hotel! Excellent Room! Excellent Price!

What can I say about the Fontainebleau Tower. I booked a week prior to Memorial Day weekend... I went through the hotel directly for my reservations. I got a rate of $199.00 for the night of Saturday May 28th. I got to the hotel... and since I had stayed at the there before I went to check-in at the regular check-in desk at the Fontainebleau Resort. Since I work for a major online hotel booking service I know that you always ask for a smoking room... because if the hotel doesnt have smoking rooms available they will upgrade your room at no extra cost.

Well guess what... exactly what happened. No smoking rooms available... so they tell me that I have to go to the Fontainebleau Tower to check-in. Im already smiling walking across the lobby... I cross the new parking circle they built and I walk into the Fontainebleau Tower through the tunnel. This place is awesome! WOW! The check-in was smooth and courteous.. he let me know that because there are no more smoking rooms they had to place me in the tower in a Jr. Suite with a balcony... pfft! Im like "OK, Sure.. No Problem" I found myself on the 17th floor with a OceanView balcony Jr. Suite! What a great view... the room was great... brand new everything... Flat screen TV... a CD Player/Boombox... even a Kitchenette with microwave and fridge. The amenities within the hotel are great. The tower even has its own private pool on the 7th floor.

I like it so much... on Sunday 29th I went to the front desk and asked for my 2nd night there... Stayed through Monday the 30th

I would definetly recommend the Fontainebleau Tower to anyone. I suggest you go to this hotel soon since I do belive they are building a Fontainebleau III (Private Condos for Living) and from what I saw its being built infront of the Fontainebleau Tower... which I worry will block the same great view I had in my room... depending on how tall the condo will be.

Definetly would go again... Wish I was there right now...

Very nice

Good comfortable rooms, excellent kid friendly pools- good, but pricy food in the restaurants. Staff was helpful- we stayed 2 nights at the Deauville before fleeing, so this was a big improvement. Worth the money, but didn't like the add on charge for the fitness room nor the mini-bar instead of little fridge.

we had a great time here

Reading these reviews, I can see where many people would be disappointed with their experience at the Fontainebleu, but my wife and I had a very fun stay there. Yes there could be long walks from one end to the other, but the place is huge, and you are at least walking through beautiful lobbies and hallways that look like they're straight out of "Logans Run". They gave us the wrong room the first time as well, but we called the front desk and explained the situation (without getting huffy or demanding) and they transfered us promptly. There were some problems with the magnetic room keys needing to be replaced every day because of a computer system failure, and room service took anywhere from 30 min to 75 min, but given the size of the place (it is VAST) and the amount of people there (it was PACKED) plus the fact that part of the place was still under construction, to me at least, this was somewhat understandable. The pool area was especially beautiful, with more than enough towels and chairs, shaded and sunny areas, hammocks, tiki huts, and staff for the very high number of guests we were part of. We are from NYC and for the price we paid at the fontainebleu for a penthouse suite ($350/night) you get a regular motel room here, so we were fine with the price. The mini bar items are way overpriced, of course, just like in every other hotel on earth.
But overall, I have to say that we will remember our stay fondly.
And no, I do not work for hilton.

Giant debacle. I was embarrased for the staff

from myperiodontist
Every step of the way was a complete failure for the hotel but before I start with the negatives, let me first highlight a few positives. The hotel is located just off the beach with excellent views; even the back of the hotel has a nice view of an intercostal. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Now the negatives.

My wife and I had arrived on a Friday around 10am from a cruise ship to find our room was not ready. Since the check-in time is 3:00pm, this seemed reasonable but I had hoped they might set aside rooms for people they knew were going to arrive early. Never-the-less, we occupied our time at the pool which was not crowded and clean. When we returned to check in at 3:00pm, our room was still not ready. This appeared to be a common occurence as there were at least 5 other couples who were also waiting for their rooms. After a couple of hours, our room was finally available but we were surprised to be placed in a canal view room as we had booked an ocean view. When I called the reception desk, they said they would take care of the situation and call back in 10 minutes but they never called. To make things worst, at around 3:00am we were woken by the people next door who were making a lot of noise. We also noticed that even conversational level voices could be heard from next door and the hallway.

The following night the hotel hosted a local high school prom so we did not sleep much that evening with all of the kids making noise all night. When we finally checked out after a restless night, we noticed more than two hundred dollars in additional charges had been added to our bill. I called the reception desk and requested they correct the bill. They said they would correct the bill and call back. When they did not call back, I tried to check out through the "indemand" television checkout which did not work. Finally, I called the front desk and checked out of the hotel over the phone. I still have reservations that the billing mistakes were corrected and will definately be checking my monthly bank statement to be sure they did not overcharge.

We booked this hotel with it's rates because we was looking for a good hotel to spend a nice weekend. Our expectations were absolutely not met in this hotel. In fact, we would have been better off sleeping on the beach. If you are looking for a nice hotel in South Beach, keep looking.

Mixed feelings but mostly good

Just returned from spending 5 days at this resort as part of a conference, with two days tacked in as a mini-vacation. I asked for a renovated room on the Chateau buidling, on a high floor and as far away from the elevators as possible. I got exactly what I requested. The renovated rooms are nice but nothing to write home about. The room was one of the quietest hotel rooms I've ever had, I could actually sleep without earplugs. The hotel beach was not too great, lots of seaweed in the water, only a small strip of sand to lay down and vehicles driving past me as I laid on the sand, not too peaceful. There is a boardwalk right outside the hotel that was great for strolling. The bus stop to South Beach was right outside the hotel across the street. Take the S, H or L buses for $1.50, they come about 10 minutes apart and it drops you off right on Lincoln Road.

The hotel changed administrations during my stay, it is now known as the Fontainbleau Resort, not a Hilton anymore. The transition was handled ok except for billing problems I heard about but luckily did not experience myself. .

Top Local Tips for Miami

AURA Excellent Italian restaurant on Lincoln Road. Great prices, great food! Look for Jay, and tell him Sean from NY sent you.

wat happens at fontainebleau amazing hotel but ppl attach the pools

Little Havana - Whatever you do don't take a cab there if you're in South Beach! If you have a rental car, use it!!! I did not know how far it was, and took a cab, $35 later I decided it was a bad idea. We went to this great, inexpensive, cuban food place called Versailles... can you say YUMMY! getting back to south beach was an adventure. I was not impressed with Calle Ocho, though you gotta love the people. We tried taking the bus back, but it took us downtown!!! Wasted half a day!
