Never Again

I am very disappointed with my stay here. I would never stay here or recomend this place to anyone. We had three people in the room. We were told we could only have two breakfast coupons and two towels even though we had three people. The noises throughout the night were enough to keep everyone awake. When we went to complain, they made us think we were making it up. The least they could of done is offered us a free night. Finally, the restaurant charges for everything under the sun and you cant even get a free re-fill. I hope for the future that the things change or there will be no business for this hotel. P.S. The temp control does not work in the room, so we had to keep the door open to stay warm.

we have been coming here for over 27 yrs.seen some major changes, very friendly staff,some original joey poolman.frank bartender. An all round family hotel,safe,clean,relaxing,not for the teenagers,go play south beach.very good value,amazingshopping mall,nearby,lots of restaurants,close by. Can't wait til Feb,get the cocktail ready frank.

Prepare to be disappointed with this hotel. Staff unfriendly, rooms smell of dampness and in need of decoration. Lift did not work the whole time we were there.
The only positive thing to say is that the hotel is on the beach and is fairly cheap.

Hi again. Were back from a fabulous 10 days at Thunderbird. Great room facing beach. Room service lady excellent. Hotel looking a bit tired but we understand its been sold and might not be there in a couple of years, its supposedly been bought by Donald Trump. So with that in mind we have already booked for 12 days this time at end Nov into Dec. Yes, there are much POSHER hotels around. But we like this one. Like so many of the returning guests that we speak to. Same faces every year. Some people book for 4 weeks or more. ROLL ON NOVEMBER.

We are regulars at the hotel and it is situated in a great place, staff are all friendly and helpful and Joey at the poolside is a great laugh plenty of food in surrounding area, easy to get to anywhere, rooms clean and tidy. Very convenient place to stay.

Hotel was okish, when we walked through the front door the hotel smelt of damp. The rooms we were first allocated smelt the smae and had peeling paint on the wood frames and no paint at all on the steel framed windows. Shoddy is the only name for it. Every room has a balcony but when your balcony is on the north side and gets no sun and looks onto the next door hotel or the car park, what is the point.
The staff on reception had the customer service skills of a wet fish which was very unfortunate as the Virgin Holiday rep Milly was lovely and tried to be as helpful as she could.
We bought our holiday from a travel agant in the UK, it was a Virgin Holiday. We were hugely disappointed with this hotel. If the hotel staff had have been slightly better mannered I think we could have put up with the damp smell and the infestation of ants in our rooms but when mixed with rude staff it was very off putting. Christmas in a hotel is usually a plesent experience, however I wouldn't repeat any of it in the Thunderbird hotel!!!
On reading some of the other comments below it seems to have deterioted since last summer!! We have been told since though that the damp smell may be an after effect of hurrican damage, who knows ..... Virgin Rep was great though

I have stayed there on a regular basis and have just booked to go back again in March 2007
This hotel might not have all mod cons but is a great position on beach friendly beach staff and the hotel is good and clean and there is plenty of shopping and food places around.

The room was clean and the maid service was excellent. Yes the hotel is older but it was clean.
The person who helped me book tours was wonderful and very helpful whenever I ask about shopping or where to get cuban coffee.
The guys who parked the cars were great.
The front desk staff were nice and helpful if you ask a question or needed something done.
The restaurant service was good and the food was excellent.
I was very happy with the Best Western Thunderbird service and hope to go back next summer. It has character and atmosphere that you don't find at the big high rise hotels.

We stayed at the Thunderbird last year August 2005, on a two centre holiday, spending the first week in Orlando on Internation Drive, After our first hotel, The Thunderbird was a blessing, it was adequate, clean and central to everything, our two linked rooms were newly decorated and very clean with kitchen, you do need a car but after several holidays in Florida you wouldn't dream of not having one, I do think that the hiring of the sun beds was a bit much on a daily basis with the best beds with shades always reserved, but overall we found it ok as a family hotel with car but wouldnt want to stay there if we were were young and clubers as you do need to be nearer to South Beach for all the entertainment.

Just returned. The hotel is ok. The staff were very friendly as we were polite to them they were really nice back the guy that runs the tours is really sweet!The reception staff were very helpful and the virgin reps fantastic.
The hotel is fine the food and drink good and pool and ammenities fantastic. The rooms how ever were a bit of a let down seeing as we were superior. Altough they were very clean!
A little tip if you want your room cleaned while you are out put the sign on the door "please clean my room" otherwise it is done very late afternoon.
It is also an hours drive to south beach although this did not affect us as there were excellent restaurants within walking distance. If you are looking for a cheap break this is fine anything more you may be disappointed.
At the end of the day it is what you make it!
