Overpriced glam with typical lousy South Beach service

Yet another "boutique" hotel concept that while gorgeous in most ways, is horribly overpriced with typical horrible South Beach service! The only reason why the place is nice is because it is still new...give it a year or two and it will be as worn as ever. Understaffed, and definitely not worth the price they charge. It's like paying for a five star hotel and then getting Ramada inn type service. Rooms are nice and spacious but don't even have a desk to work from...silly dual LCD TV setup that requires an engineering degree to figure out...not even a docking station to plug in an ipod...despite an over the top base sound system....nice pool deck and area...if they would just keep it clean and tidy.....overpriced restaurant with typical bitchy south beach type model/hostesses with entirely too much attitude. Overall if the prices were half what they charged it would be worth it. You definitely do not get what you pay for here!

This is the first Hotel in Miami where service is outstanding. Loved Butler concept, felt like a VIP traveler, when in deed, I was not noted VIP. Staff is doing whatever/whenever is needed, from housekeeping to Front desk. Staff speaks several languages, which is abig help to voreign travelers. Rooms are clean and spacious. It is a bit expensive, but I rather pay high rate and recieve superb service. It was best vacation I ever had. Definitely coming back.

Great Hotel / Lousy Service

from mt234
the super luxe property is located on the quieter side of ocean drive. gorgeous rooms, however they did have a few issues, chief being the ridiculous televisions/entertainment centers. the rooms are not super huge, and although its really just one big room, there are 2 lcd tvs, one facing the bed, the other the sitting area. unfortunately they are the most unintuitive, complicated systems ever devised. Despite the living room side having a Bose sound system, nowhere was there an ipod outlet, not even on the bedside clock radio!!
the balconies are large and spacious, but lacked privacy from the rooms on either side. also marble flooring made them very slippery when wet. balconies were also very stark and could use a plant or two.
pool area was nice and cozy, however as previously pointed out, the pool deck was sorely lacking in housekeeping (you'd think management would have read the previous reviews and corrected this!!) used towels, drinkware, trash, etc were left out on lounge chairs all day. the pool bar was open only one day out of 6. Also, from a design perspective the entire pool deck was tiled is marble...who on earth puts marble flooring in a wet area? it was extremely (justifiable lawsuit waiting to happen!) slippery whenever wet.
the staff that was there were all extremely friendly... it just seemed as if there were never enough. most of the staff said hello whenever they saw, except for the few who seemed to be security..who were not friendly in the least.
all in all this is a very lovely hotel...it's just not at all what one would expect for the prices charged, but that is par the course for south beach in general. everything is overpriced and lacking in service everywhere in south beach! with this being such a small property, regent could have / should have really done a much better job.

loved the bathrooms

from ls10
We stayed at this hotel on 15th July. As we have 3 children we had 2 rooms. I would say this is possibly one of the best hotels we have stayed in. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The showers in the bathrooms were fantastic. The only complaint we have is that our room was next to the lift shaft and the noise of this could be heard all night. Apart from that everything was great including the breakfast.

Nice Hotel

from Traveler20
The Regent is a very nice upscale hotel. Rooms are beautiful, although I was misinformed by central reservations and thought it was a 2 room suite, when in fact it is one room with a seperate seating area and 2 TVs. The bathroom is one of the nicest I have seen with a 6 jet shower. But it has no bathtub, which is one of the reasons I did not give it 5 stars. The restauant was good. We ate breakfast there every morning, which was included in our rate. Not a lot of diversity on the menu, but enough. The homemade granola was outstanding and when I asked for the recipe is was slipped under my door that day. Dinner at Table 8 was very expensive by any standards.
The food was good but the service was spotty. They made a mistake on our bill when we divided it between couples and over charged us. Good thing someone looked and realized that our check was for more than their's was. However, with such a central location I would suggest going elsewhere. Service was generally excellent. In room massage was very good. Beach access is easy. It is right accross the street. The front desk provides you with towels and an on-beach concession takes care of the chairs. Umbrellas are not included and cost $15 a day. We were mistakenly charged for one and it was removed
from our bill without question. The pool is just OK. The windows that
go down to the lounge are an interesting design element, but who wants someone looking up at them swimming from that angle? They have a bar at the pool, but I never saw a bartender. Out of our four days there, the chairs were set up with towels only one morning.
Otherwise, you had to look around for the housekeeping cart which was in a different place each day. When it rained, no one went up to removed soaked towels. I never saw anyone remove soiled towels that people left behind on chairs. The pool is on the 2nd floor and gets very little breeze due the fact that it is surrounded on 4 sides by buildings. I probably would have given the hotel a 5 if the pool were better managed and service there was better. All in all, I would
return to this hotel and would reccomend it to other adults looking for a luxury room and great location on South Beach.

A Honeymoon Paradise in South Beach

from pensando42
We celebrated our honeymoon recently at this property and was perfection from the minute we walked into the lobby. The room and bed were strewn with red rose petals, our favorite cocktails were brought to the room and a bottle of chilled Perrier Jouet was waiting for us. The concierge had ensured even the smallest detail was met. Our room opened onto the pool which was open 24 hours a day and had glass panels looking down into the lounge..weird but fun. The showers had water in every direction..very sexy. The bed was so comfortable and the two plasma TVs gave plenty of entertainment although the controls required study due to the complexity of the systems. Table 8 had delicious food and excellent service. They do serve breakfast but the service barely moves at breakfast and the menu is limited. Cocktails are perfection!!!! And the staff attended to every detail and always remembered our names. The toilet is enclosed by clunky sliding doors but that is only room issue. Much better than the Ritz Carlton SoBe and we will return soon.

Great Hotel and Location

from R0b15
We've just returned from a weekend get away in South Beach. The hotel was fabulous. The rooms are nice, big, and clean. The showers are great with the six jets. The hotel is very quiet not like the other ones on South Beach like Shore Club or Delano. The pool is small but the beach is very close, and they provide lawn chairs for guests at the Regent. I would highly recommend this hotel. The city is nice but expensive. They have very good restaurants. If you want Italian go to Ecopazzo on Washington and 13th, and Nobu is very good. You won't be dissapointed.

Is This The Same Hotel? Pinch Me!!

from executivedirector
Candidly, I stayed at this hotel during Art Basel last year and it was a complete disaster. Over billing, lack of attention so I had reservations about returning.
The second stay was so different from our first stay my wife and I had to ask each other where were we? My wife's employer did pay for the stay, or we probably would not have stayed here. We are glad we came back!!
The service was impecable, and our stay represented world class attention to details equal to a Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons property. The restaurant "Table for Eight" was one of the finest restaurants we have gone to in recent memory. The restaurant is in the lobby of the hotel, if you stay at the hotel you have priority reservation.
Upon check out the General Manager came out to greet us, and inquire how our stay was. (We noticed he did this many times during our stay with other guests as well) We told him, about the difference in service, and he explained that the hotel had many issues that had to be worked through last year. He also informed us that he is the new GM and that he has been at the property for one month.
GREAT, GREAT hotel, and I cannot wait until I return!

Best Service!!

from papaspoo
We recently stayed here and loved it!! and we're kinda picky. The service was fantastic! everyone from concierge to the bellhops were constantly looking out for us. The hotel was clean and some of the largest rooms in SoBe.

s Newest Faux Luxe Resort

from No_Name20L
I recently stayed at this hotel for a management meeting. It is a very fancy hotel, but overdone to extremes. It is a perfect hotel for people into appearances and insecure about their own taste and judgement.

The rooms were over the top. The lighting and gadgets in the room were so complex they required a PhD in electrical engineering to figure out.

Also, as others have reported on this site, I had erroneous room charges on my bill. The hotel told me I had $150 in room service and mini bar charges, when I had not taken anything. The desk did promptly reverse the charges when I contested them.

Several others in my party reported similar experiences with bogus charges. Either the hotel needs to implement a new "revenue enhancement"program or at least figure out their billing system. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that the overcharges were not deliberate.

As nice a property as this is, I can't say I am rushing back.

t afford The Regent!

from Dudega1
I've stayed at the Delano and The Setai in SoBe, two of the top hotels, so when I came this year I decided to try the new Regent. While the hotel in very expensive ($500 and up a night), it offers possibly the best rooms in South Beach and all of Miami. My room was an entry level "south beach suite" priced at $500 plus tax. If I wanted a hot tub, lanai, and ocean view the price would jump to $1,200+ a night, but hey it's only money....My room was wonderful as was the very attentive staff. The hotel does have some kinks to work out....For instance the rooms have a spectacular rain shower, but no deep soaking tub (what were they thinking??) They also do not have the restaurant (Table 8) open for breakfast, so all you can do is order room service for breakfast which I thought was very unusual for a five star hotel. All in all, this hotel will the hottest ticket in town (other than The Setai) when the management works out the minor glitches.

Excellent stay at Regent

from arctikphox
My wife and I are 31 year old professionals from Calgary Alberta, we came by ourselves. We decided on Miami and spent at least a month weighing the pro's and con's of various properties with the help of TripAdvisor, Frommers and Expedia. The Regent got good reviews but certainly not perfect reviews. We ended up taking the highest average between TripAdvisor and Frommers.

Location:
We had no idea where we were going and were thrilled to see we were right in the middle of things. There is no better location than this period.

Staff:
Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. At one point one of the butlers overheard my wife and I talking about how nice the penthouse suites must be. We got a call 30 minutes later asking us if we'd like a tour. These guys are service oriented and are constantly offering to arrange anything you need.

Room:
Small and extremely well appointed. Two flat panel LCD's (with HD feed and movie channels), his and her sinks, separate toilet area, huge shower with 6 shower heads. Huge deck overlooking Collins (spend a little more and you can get a room with a hot tub on the deck). The minibar was incredibly well stocked - and expensive. With that said you are at The Regent in SoBe - what exactly were you expecting? Perhaps the classiest touch of all was the extra empty fridge so you could store your own food and bevies. While the kitchenette wasn't full scale (sink, microwave, empty fridge, bar glasses, cutlery, bowls, plates, high end coffee machine, marble counters, wood cupboards) anyone staying here doesn't plan on eating in too often. We kept wine, crackers, cheese, etc. The bed was great and the lighting in the room was the best we'd ever seen in a hotel.

Pool Area:
Pool area, with hot tub, is nice and not that busy. There is full service at the pool which is great. You are more than welcome to sip your Gibson's poolside in between laps. Full spa services at poolside. While workout area isn't huge the treadmills and ellipticals are top notch (we are gym freaks and know what we are talking about).

Restaurant:
We didn't make it to the restaurant. We managed to have a couple of glasses of wine at the bar one evening and the bartender was great. We would consider the bar and restaurant in the future but this time it was just too expensive for us.

Nobody is Perfect:
To use their beach area you have to be escorted. A bit of a bother. One of the lotions was half empty and sticky. Only got chocolates during half of the turndowns. There was an empty liquor box left in a cupboard. As you can see we are being really picky here. Lotion was promptly replaced and the clearing service and turndown service was great.

We will never go anywhere else and we plan on coming back.

Top Local Tips for Miami

parking Parking at the hotel was $32/day. Waitress suggested we take a chance and park on the street without buying a pass. She does it every day and gets an $18 ticket about twice a month. We parked onthe street for free for four days and never got a ticket.

Great dinner Walk south a few blocks to Oriente for dinner. It is fabulous! Also, Jerry's Deli is a must for breakfast or lunch.

don't need a car in SoBe if you're staying in SoBe you don't need to rent a car. We rented a car and never used it. Everything was in walking distance and there is no parking. Hotels charge anywhere from $25-35 a day for pkng.
