This place if very pertentious. It looks good on the surface but the managing management and staff are just a little snotty. I wanted to stay an extra day they told me to go to hell. Not exactly the best customer service. Also you get to everthing in the rooms next to you. That includes the TV and personal noises. Very loud by the pool but they are the best rooms.

Lame-o

from JellyBee11
After much research, we recently made the mistake of staying at The Clinton on our wedding night. First, the positives. The lobby is kinda cool, and there were plenty of people there to open doors for you. The location is also a plus, very close to shops and restaurants. The first thing that bothered me is how small and cramped the room was. It was the smallest $280/night room ever. You barely had room to stand by the bed. Second, the "modern" / "minimalist" decoration was cheap looking.
There's no other way I can describe it. We were definitely not impressed. We had also requested superior balcony, which was in all our printouts, but this request was not honored. We had a first floor room.
In all the pictures we saw the bathrooms looked very cool. This was also a dissapointment. For all the cool looking tubs and fixtures I saw on the pictures, the only thing that was special was the sink. There was no tub. The shower fixtures were also as plain and institutional as I ever saw them. Nothing special. It was about 11:00 when we decided to place an order for room service. The menu in the room said "served until 12:00 am". We called only to be laughed ad, yes, laughed at by the receptionist "oh, noooo.. they are aclosed already..." That was a real nice touch from the staff. So basically we paid this premium amount of money, to stay in this room the size of a matchbox, with cheap looking, pretend-modern furnishings. The lobby was cool, but dead.. There were plenty of places with cool lobbies and more reasonable prices that we could have stayed at, still having access to the same stores and restaurants. Lesson learned. Maybe someone that has not traveled much will be impressed by this place. We were not. My advice, go have a drink in the lobby, stay somewhere else.

Really nice hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed there for three night with my fiance and we really liked the place. The hotel has a very modern design, the rooms were very clean and we found the service great. The rooms were cleaned every morning, towels, shampoons, soaps etc replaced every day. We used Expedia for the reservations and there was no problem, we got exactly what we asked for and what was described in the hotel amenities description. The location is great just 2 blocks from Ocean Drive and the beach.
Everything interesting is within walking distance. Everyone in the staff was willing to help us with direction, luggage, finding taxi, etc . They even shipped immediately the next day the phone charger we forgot in the room without any extra charge. One issue is probably the very small pool (the smallest pool I've ever seen). Also do not ask a room right next to the pool, because there might some noise from the pool/bar/restaurant. I will definitely go there again. I was worht the money.

t run into problems with your room-terrible service

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a sharp looking hotel. But the buck stops there. I shortly learned after entering my room that the phone did not work to receive calls. I called immediately (I needed to speak to my daughter) and was told someone would be there to check the phone line. 2 hours passed and no one arrived. On the way out for dinner I encountered an maintenece person, told him of my problem and he said he'd make sure someone would be there to look into it. Of course no one ever came. I tried later that evening to switch rooms but the hotel claimed they were sold out.
After requesting yet again for maintenence the following day someone finally showed. They did not know how to fix the phone. Since I was only there for one more evening I did not request a room change again (propbably would not have gotten it anyways). This hotel is fine from a location/beauty point of view but if service is important you'd better find another hotel in lovely South Beach.

Great Hotel!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed in Hotel Clinton in January. It is a very nice small hotel, with a unique style to it. The lobby and rooms smell very nice. I had a balcony room, and it was a bit small but very nicely decorated. Free Mai tais at 6:00-7:00 otherwise drinks at the bar are $12. The pool is very small, and if you want to stay at a pool all day stay at the loews, otherwise this is an excellent hotel. The rooms with double beds are twice the size. I highly reccommend

High on style, low on service

from A TripAdvisor Member
Great style, loved the overall design of the hotel and the rooms. And the location was perfect, right around the corner from the News Cafe, the beach and shopping. BUT the service was terrible. They wanted to please and impress, and in general were very polite and willing to serve the clientele, but did not follow through, not once. The concierge promised the moon and the stars, and in the end did not follow up on one single promise from booking dinner reservations to retrieving the car from the valet, to getting the check for our outdoor breakfast. The service in the outdoor pool/lounge area was horrible, and in the end we had to tell the "waiter" what the cost of the breakfast should have been. After waiting for the check outside for about 20 minutes, we headed inside to sign for the meal at the front desk. The shift manager had a little rift with the waiter in the lobby as we waited for our the bill. The manager tracked down the waiter, who spewed "I'm busy right now" (doing what, we don't know) and the manager walked away huffing "Jesus Christ". In general, they dressed the part but failed miserably in actually playing the part. The free glass of wine upon check in might be offered so that you don't notice that your request goes in one ear and directly out the other.

nice hotel, but false advertising

from A TripAdvisor Member
My boyfriend and I stayed here one night after a trip from the Keys. I did a lot of research on this hotel and knew the area quite well since I come to South Beach each spring to celebrate my birthday with my sister. I really liked the location of the hotel, nice and close to the hotspots on Ocean Drive. I found them on Expedia, but ended up booking it through the hotel website, because they had a better deal. A couple things that I need to point out about the hotel that bothered me. The room was nice, but not quite what I expected. Their website advertises the room to have, down comforters, satellite TV, video library, DSL service robes in the rooms, full turn down service, and last but not least, fresh flowers. The room had none of these. Well, it had a tv but it didn't work (no signal). Not quite sure if that is what I would call a down comforter or a blanket. I never saw a video library, our bed was never turned down, no DSL service (after asking the front desk said it was in "some" rooms) no robes, and no fresh flowers. But, on the good side the room was clean, and had a very nice shower, and bathroom with thick towels. There is a happy hour at the hotel from 6-7pm and they serve killer Mai Tai's for FREE! That was a nice perk. The valet was easy, but very slow. After we checked out, and I signed the amount owed, I looked at my online banking the next day and noticed that they had charged me 400.00$ when what I signed was 142.00$. I called the hotel and was interrupted and transferred to "accounting". Then I was told that the "accountant" was out of the office that day. I then asked for the manager, Rafael. I was put in his vm and I left a message that I wanted to be contacted that day. The next day I notice the charge removed and the correct amount added, but never recieved a phone call AT ALL to apologize or even to explain what happened!!!! They need to work on Customer service a little bit more, and if they improve I would definetly go and stay at the hotel again. I do have to say that Frank, the concierge was great and extremely welcoming upon our arrival.

Loved The Clinton Hotel Well Worth The Money

from cscott
I just came back from this hotel MLK weekend and I loved it. It was absolutely beautiful. The rooms were very clean and definitely had no odor which was a plus for me. The Sharper Image CD player was a nice touch. The down side I had a balcony room which overlooked PAO restaurant which had music playing until the wee morning hours. The decor was hip, very modern. This hotel is definitely art deco and fun for the younger crowd. This is a place just to hang out with either a friend or your partner. The rooms are small with a double bed exactly for 2 you definitely won't be slipping any additional people in. I loved that there wasn't bright lights. The lights in the hotel were always dim. The hotel is in a great location 1 block from the beach, Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive. Major stores are around the corner Kenneth Cole, Gap, Guess, Armani Exchange, Intermix, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters, etc so if you're a shopper this is a plus. Overall I thought this hotel was romantic and being clean and comfortable was the most important thing to me and the bed was definitely that. I would recommend it highly and stay again. Another note before I forget you had to valet park as South Beach has absolutely no where to park it seems so this was kind of pricey we spent I believe like over $30 for just the weekend. I got a great deal on Expedia so I didn't mind.

Some downsides - but GREAT hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just got back from 3 nights at the Clinton - we got it on Priceline and
though it's a gorgeous hotel - it's not worth paying more than $120 a
night for. This hotel is clean, sparkling white. The rooms are
spotless, the bathroom impeccable. Location is perfect!
My biggest complaint is not with the room or the service - but the pool. It's no larger than a puddle and kept so icy cold that no one once went into it! It's more for decoration than swimming - which is too bad since swimming in a pool is a nice break from swimming in the ocean. It should set the record for the world's smallest, coldest, most unwelcoming pool!!! Besides that, this hotel is gorgeous and I have no complaints. The staff is nice and helpful and they cater to your needs. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Clinton Rocks

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was surprised with some of the negative reviews as I found my stay at The Clinton very enjoyable. The only complaint I have and it is really minor - housekeeping was slow. The first day, our room never got cleaned and with one phone call, we had someone at our door within minutes. The rest of our stay, our rooms were always cleaned by 3:00PM.

Other than that, our room was very large, clean and had everything we needed. A real boutique hotel feel from the robes in the room to the down comforters on the bed. The staff was very attentive and helpful.
The lobby is very cool looking, the pool area is sweet and the darkened hallways and purple dim lighting in the elevator only add to it's charm. I think this is a great place to stay overall in South Beach and I would definitely stay there again.

In fact, I look forward to my next stay there.

Hint - Priceline offers the best deals. Compared to someone else who stayed there the same time, we overpaid. They got their room for much less using Priceline.

It was so-so

from A TripAdvisor Member
My boyfriend and I just came back from South Beach and we stayed at the Clinton Hotel. The hotel has its bells and whistles and looked more like a club than a hotel. It looks like the kind of place where trysts take place--it was dark and cool. I thought the location would be ideal--close to the beaches but not packed as it is on Ocean Drive.
Needless to say, I did not get a quiet night's sleep there. We had a room facing a back alley and the hotel apparently likes to bring in trucks in the wee hours of the morning. That was annoying. The hotel is decorated in a cool, minimalist fashion but good style does not necessarily mean good quality. There were little quirks that were not appreciated, like they were renovating the shower doors while we were out and they forgot to inform us of that. They left us with a broken shower door. While they were prompt to get it back up, I thought that was unprofessional. While the front desk people were not rude, they were not really interested in going that extra mile to help you out.
They seemed more interested in looking cool in their all black outfits than helping out their patrons! My experience there wasn't out right bad or good but I kept wondering for the money I paid to stay there, if I wouldn't have gotten a better place elsewhere.
