perfect location, great staff

Just got back on august 22, 2004. Everything they say about this hotel is true. The staff was excellent. All of them, from the lady who works in the morning, to the guy who works at night, and the pretty girls who work during the weekend, all were so helpful. WE arrived at 10 am on thursday, and the lady at the front desk that morning was so nice and helpful. the check in time was actually 3 pm, but she told us to come back in 45 minutes.
When we got back our room was perfectly ready. Very clean and chilled from the air condition. I didn't feel my room was small at all. You can comfortably walk around without bumping into each other. we had 2 twin beds, a tv in a cabinet, 2 desks, and an average size washrooom. I thought we were suppose to ge hardfloors, but we didn't. we got a room with carpet. Maybe because our room was the internet special (only $65). You can upgrade to a nice one for $80. It didn't really matter though. You're only there to sleep. All you really need is a clean place, which this hotel is.
But the best part about this hotel is its location. Two blocks from lincoln mall, one block from collins ave, 3 blocks from ocean drive, 3 blocks from Crobar, and Two blocks from walgreens. Trust me, you'll be glad. I went there every day when ever i needed something. And also, two blocks from the best spot on the beach. Just a little hint, topless sun bathing is acceptable in south beach, and my oh my do they know how to sun bath. But please, not matter how tempted you are, don't make an ass of yourself by filming or taking pictures of topless women. I saw on 4 seperate occassions, drunk, white, middle age, fraternity type guys with beer in one had and a camera or camcorder on the other hand, walk by and stop, to film or take pictures of nude women infront of everyone.
I had no problems getting whatever I wanted if the hotel had it. I borrowed scissors, got extra towels, they even offered free soda to us cause they were doing maintainence in the lobby. During our checkout, they were nice enough to call a cab for us. I would stay here again when i go back, simply because i know exactly what to expect and that the staff will meet my expectation.

I had an absolutely great stay at this hotel. Excellent location; beautiful room with a hardwood floor and comfortable beds; excellent, friendly service. Very clean and well-lit, air conditioning kept my room at a nice 70 F in the middle of July. Having a fridge in the room was handy to keep water/snacks cool.

The parking space outside is well worth it, even at $10/day. There are 3-4 spaces; if you don't get one, you shouldn't have any trouble parking on the streets nearby, at a cost of $1/hour (enforced 9 AM - midnight). At least, we had no trouble in July -- it might be harder during peak tourist season around Christmas.

Rooms are smaller than the "average" American suburban/convention-center hotel, but pretty standard size for an urban American hotel. There's still plenty of space, and you are in the heart of South Miami Beach.

The morning breakfast is expensive, but given my sleeping habits, this was a moot point. :-) If you want good, cheap eats, just walk a block or two down Collins Avenue -- there's a great Cuban coffee stand, and a nice French-style bakery.

Despite being so close to the beaches and restaurants and shopping areas, the area around the hotel was quiet at night, so no worries when you need to sleep. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, without being obtrusive.

All in all, a great stay -- definitely at the top of my list the next time I visit!

The Cadet hotel is in a great location, easy walking distance to everything. The room was on the small side, but everything was clean and comfortable and the amenities (tv, phone, etc) were all in good working order. My window looked onto an alley, but for the price I honestly can't complain. As a woman traveling alone I tend to be wary of really good deals because sometimes the hotels don't feel safe but the Cadet felt fine, there was always someone in the lobby and they remembered me and said hello as I came and went. One of the best deals I've ever gotten on a vacation hotel.

As I have found out, it's not easy to find a decent hotel under $100 in the South Beach area. After seeing the reviews on this site, I decided to give Cadet a try, and what a great find this was. I got a room (their smaller renovated ones) for $79.99 per night for two nights during the month of May. This was a pre-cruise stay. The room was indeed small, but since we spent most of the day out and about, size didn't matter much. The room and bathroom were very clean, I feel safe enough to walk bare feet in it. The location! I cannot say enough how great of a location this was for the price we're paying - a block away from the beach and a block away from the shops and restaurants of Lincoln Rd, Collins Ave, Washington Ave, and a couple of blocks from the action of Ocean Dr. Yet, the block it was situated on was quiet enough that noise wasn't an issue. I do want to mention that I'm 29 and my husband is in his 30s, so we're still pretty active people. During the time we were there, walking and taking the metro bus was our only form of transportation, we had no need to rent a car. We would definitely stay there again.

A small, very quaint, super clean hotel with an extremely friendly and efficient staff. Hard to beat for the price - and the location, just 1 block from the beach and 2 blocks from the Lincoln Rd. shops and restaurants, is amazing.

Well worth it

It was a short walk from the beach, although not on Ocean Drive. The prices were reasonable and the staff was pleasant. The A/C was a little loud, but that was about it. Don't expect much from the complimentary breakfast.

Great Value in SoBe - a gem in the middle of it all

Stayed here 4 nights over Easter weekend/week. This is the second time I have stayed here. This hotel has the best value. If you are looking for a clean comfortable place to stay and are not concerned about pool and luxe extras - this is the place. Great garden patio to catch a nap after beach and have breakfast. Staff was wonderful, some after some reviews I have come to the conclusion that 50% of the "bad staff" comments are due to the way the tourists demand things - ask nice and you will get what you want, be a jerk and well - see what happens.
Highly recommend this place and will go next time. no pool but isn't the point to go to the beach? rooms are decent size but not huge. Nice wood floors.

Sweet Small and Sensational-- Awesome Staff and

Pardon me for be late on the review… My plans are always to stay off the beach when visiting South Beach but there was no availability during my visit in February. This hotel is Sweet Small and Sensational. Let me first say the STAFF is outstanding 5 Stars alone to them. Now back to the hotel. Although this hotel is situated one block off Collins it still has proximity to South Beach nightlife as well as the beach. COZY and COMFORTABLE are the rooms… NOTE!, do not let them put you in the room off to the left of the Check-In Desk it can get very noisy, believe me I know. I was in the room the first night but the Staff was prompt to move me at my convenience. I would stay at this hotel again and again. The only drawback one may have is no Pool on the premises and YOU CANNOT HAVE A GUEST IN YOUR ROOM PAST 11PM… Other than that this hotel is a must stay!

We spent a weekend at the Cadet Hotel in mid-February. I had read many reviews on tripadvisor and was leary of most hotels in the Miami Beach area that were within our price range. The reviews on this hotle were good and the hotel and staff definitely lived up to them. The staff was wonderful. There was one girl that seemed to work there all the time and was always very helpful with suggestions on where to eat or where the hot spots for the day were (I wish I could remember her name!). The rooms were small, but very clean and for the amount of time we spent in the room (very little), they were perfect. The small refrigerator came in handy. The outside patio area was wonderful, we sat out there in the evenings and had a cocktail and/or played cards. And being only a block from the beach, the location was perfect. Also within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again when I make it back to Miami Beach.

Top Local Tips for Miami

Breakfast Head down Ocean Drive until you find the restaurants offering breakfast for $4.25. Sit outside, linger and people watch. No one hurries you from your table when you are done with your meal.

Entertainment, eating Ckeck for events before you arrive. Plan in advance. There are many restaurants--most good. The most expensive are likely to be in the hotels or along Ocean Drive (South Beach). Use the Internet for information. It's your best friend. Be aware that most hotels in this area are old, but renovated. Some are not sufficiently renovated. If you have a friend down here, have them go the area and check, check, check. Price is not necessarily the best indicator of quality.

Lincoln rd. go to lincoln rd. and close your eyes when the credit card bill comes in the mail. haha
