I had expected average accommodations given the very modest price, but what I got greatly and marvelously surprised me. The room was crispy clean. There was wireless Internet. Two swimming pools. The freshest and tastiest continental breakfast(included in the room price). The staff genuinely courteous with multi-lingual possibilities(Polish, Russian, Spanish) Unfortunately not German. At breakfast I talked with one couple from Munchen who return here every other year. This is the biggest and best surprise I've had in 12 trips to Florida. Easy non-stops--Munchen to Atlanta, then Atlanta to Key West. HANS

Top Local Tips for Key West

Caution when traveling in Key West When you are in Key West, either on foot or with scooters, please watch out for drunks on bicycles. My Husband and I were waiting to make a left hand turn and he was hit from behind by a drunk who didn't see his turn signal. This was before noon. I would expect to see drunks on the streets (it is a party town) more toward the evening but not before noon. We are taking him to the Doc's tomorrow to see if his rib is broken! Second thing is the parking. The parking people cut you NO breaks. You would think with the amount of money tourists spend in Old Town, the parking people would give you a warning first and if you don't move in say a half hour, then ticket you. We paid $80 to rent two scooters and now have to pay $70 in parking tickets because we didn't see their invisible sign. The parking lady's comment was "Oh, it must have fallen off!". Unless we read minds, how were we to know that there had been a sign there?

Turtle Kraals If you are there on a Friday evening, go see the turle races at Turtle Kraals - fun and cute. Also a great place for breakfast.

Things to see and eat Worthwhile to see Mel Fishers Museum, Hemingway's House and Truman's Little White House. Had good meals at Blue Heaven and El Meson de Pepe. Liked music at both places: folk music and first, Cuban at second.
