A fantasic getaway!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe level of pampering we received at both places was incredible, however, Sunset Key went way beyond to make our stay the best vacation ever. The Hilton is the best location there is. Located in the heart of Key West, everything imagineable was withing walking distance. The hotel was very accommodating when they made a mistake with overbooking the hotel for Fantasy Fest in October 2002, which is why they placed us on Sunset Key for the weekend...at NO additional cost! (I have also written a review for Sunset Key as I can't say enough good things about it!) At the Hilton we stayed poolside and the room was very nice. I have to agree that we also had a problem with keeping the water in the shower, but since it was a tile floor it was fine. We ordered breakfast delivered to our room several times and the prices were reasonable and the food was great. You got so much for the price that after a couple of days we were shared a breakfast. The staff was very courteous and when we entered or exited the hotel we were always greeted by someone wishing us well. We came home late one evening after visiting the many bars in the area and the staff asked us if they could get us anything, and when we asked for water...they brought us a whole six-pack at no charge, despite the fact it was 3am! Twice in one day our air conditioner broke and had to be fixed, but the hotel more than compensated for it. It was a first-class property and the service was some of the best I've ever received. I will definately be back!
Horrible service, never again
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe would have given Hilton Key West the benefit of the doubt and assume it was just one particular concierge however the following morning the Guest Services Manager was ambivalent about the hotel's mistake and offered no apology. A follow-up letter to the Key West manager resulted in a similar response with only a carefully crafted apology.
Our stays at Hilton have always been enjoyable, this location being the only exception. This was a very unfortunate experience in the beautiful place of Key West.
Great Time At Hilton Key West

from A TripAdvisor MemberBeautiful and a great location
from Ifly4freeeYou take a 5 minute ferry ride to a clean, but rocky beach, with beautiful beach chaise lounges, plenty of umbrella's for shade, floats for the water, and big beach towels. It is a small secluded area which was not crowded. I suspect it was because it was a slow time of the year. The pool back at the hotel was just as fabulous. A nice touch to the hotel(one of many) was the free business center, where you could go check your email, use the printers etc. The location was one of the best in KW. Don't miss the sunset at the outside hotel lounge. A fun happy hour with music and great people. But once again the was the most expensive place I have stayed at in KW. I would stay there again.
6 days of fun
from gmbennettThey told us our rollaway would be an extra charge, but never charged us. We went over to Sunset Keys one afternoon. It has a sandy beach, but as you walk into the water it is very rocky and hurts the feet.
They do have beach chairs and water mats at no charge. We enjoyed the pool at the Hilton more. The staff at the pool bar was friendly. My only complaint of the hotel is that the shower curtains didn't do a good job keeping the water in the tub. Everytime someone showered we had a flood on the floor. Luckily it was tile! For other sites in Key West I recommend:Key West Diving Society - My husband and oldest son went diving and my other 2 kids and I went went along to snorkel. They were friendly and wanted us to have a good time. At our second stop at the reef, the captain came out and snorkeled with us pointing out different fish and corels. He also dove down and took close up pictures for us with our camera.America's Schooner Sunset Sail - They are a little more expensive, but they aren't nearly as crowded as many of the other sunset sail boats. They also make sure you have a good time. I would highly recommend the Hilton. It is close to everything. We only took our car out once to tour the rest of the island. The staff was friendly. We will definitely stay there again!
Location...location!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWatching the sunset at the bar is nice (but I can see that when I am home
Beware self parking as there are no in and out privileges...having said that we never used the car once the four days we were there.
Great resort in most ways...ugly rooms!
from jletBTW-the others are right about the cruise ships blocking the view. They usually leave by 6:00 and we noticed there were no ships on Saturday.
We like watching the ships (and the people who were on them) and we could still see water, but if you are quite set on having a view, get a suite or go to Sunset Key.
Top Local Tips for Key West
be sure to go to the Conch Republic We had drinks and appetizers one night at the Conch republic. Everythign was good and it was a beautiful setting.
Fun and Funky Breakfast Blue Heaven for breakfast
Places other than on Duval Check out the wharf/marina area ; off the beaten path & looks can be deceiving. Schooner Wharf Bar had an amazing band - Jason Ricci & the New Blood...lead singer played a mean harmonica - reminded me of Blues Traveler. In that area, try B.O.'s fish wagon for a beer & conch fritters (looks like the junkyard from Sanford & Son). Breakfast: loved Blue Heaven, get there early; they stop taking orders for their fabulous breakfast at noon. Also in that area: Green Parrot Bar - not touristy and they had a great blues band. Dinner: Louie's Backyard (shrimp&grits were out of this world!) On Duval: Fast Buck Freddies for shopping. Drinking on Duval: Irish Kevin's, Sloppy Joes, Hogs Breath were all a good time. Also The Whistle & Bull & Garden of Eden....3rd floor was great people-watching! :-)
