Great stay! Plan on returning next year.

My husband and I stayed at the Southernmost Hotel at the beginning of June and we had a great stay. We booked our room online and did not have any problems at all with our reservations. We had a Deluxe King W/balcony. We didn't have much of a view (all we could see was the parking lot) But the room more than made up for it. Our room was excellent! It was fairly spacious, nice decor and clean. Hotel staff cleaned everyday (we were there for 4 days) and the staff was very helpful and considerate. We also did not have any problems with parking (one reviewer mentioned a shortage of spaces). The beach that was across the street at the Southernmost on the beach was not large but it was very nice. It was beautiful at night with all the lights in the trees. Unfortunately the Duval Beach Club which is right on the beach is not much to talk about. We ate there one time and never went back. I definitely recommend renting a scooter or bike to get around the island. The hotel is in a great location, at the end of Duval street, but it is a very long walk down to Mallory Square. We had a great time in Key West and I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone I know!

We stayed there three nights the week of May 16, 2004. This is a nice looking hotel from the outside with two outdoor pools located at the eastern (Upper) end of Duval Street one block from the beach and near the Southernmost Point.

The majority of the restaurants, bars, etc. are at least 1/2 mile away but we chose to walk and didn't find it too tiring. The walk was enjoyable - even the 1.25 mile walk to and from Mallory Square. You just need to not be pressed for time. Every walk was a unique, memorable experience.

The tile floor of our hotel room was gritty and dirty, had evidently not been mopped before we arrived. The water coming out of the shower head was little more than a trickle and the water temperature fluctuated from very hot to too cold; it wouldn't maintain a consistent temperature.

The size of the room was adequate. But, the location of our room was not. Apparently it was just a few doors down from the housekeeping quarters. The crew gets started VERY EARLY each morning and just let that door slam closed the dozens of time they entered and left for supplies.

This hotel is one block from the beach; several others are also within walking distance. but we did not find any of the beaches in Key West suitable for swimming.

If we went back to Key West we would probably choose to stay at one of the adorable B&Bs on or near Duval, a little further west.

Great weekend

We drove down to Key West for a long weekend and had a deluxe king w/balcony that looked over the fountain in the front entrance/parking lot of the hotel. It would have been nicer to overlook the pool area, but it was really fine anyhow. The room was clean, bright and very roomy. Front desk got us right into our room with no wait and very pleasant service. Pools were great, tiki bar was a bonus. People were all very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing. You can rent bikes right at the hotel, which we did the second day. This hotel was a perfect location for us because it was far enough away from the partying down on Duval St when you wanted quiet, but close enough to walk or ride bikes to. There's a little market around the corner, an ice cream place, and a Cuban snack-shack that makes great (huge) breakfast sandwiches. If you're looking for a great beach, you won't find one in the keys, but they do have a small one right across the street and we saw several weddings there that weekend. The trees were lit up at night with little white lights and it was very romantic. we would definetely stay here again.

My family stayed at the Southermost Motel for 2 nights last week. This was our first trip to Key West and we booked the room via their website. So, we were a little concerned about what we would find once we arrived. What a pleasant surprise it was to pull up to such a lovely motel! Our room was your standard hotel room w/distressed painted furniture. We were very close to a swimming pool. There is a tiki bar and another pool closer to the office. Right across the street is the Southernmost on the Beach. Guests are allowed to use their pool and beach area. There is also a pier there as well. I found a great Cuban coffee house right down the street, and a homemade icecream stand around the corner as well. You are just a short stroll from the most southern point of the U.S. It's a 1/2 hour walk to Mallory Square. We rented bikes one day right from the motel & had a great time riding around Key West. I loved this spot on Duval and would highly recommend it!

My girlfriend and I stayed at Southernmost the first week of April and it was a wonderful stay. The front office was friendly and informative.
The concierge was helpful and friendly. They 2 tiki bars poolside and another pool across the street that you are allowed to use. You have access to the private beach and a restaurant on that beach that you can charge to your room. The room was spacious and clean with a nice "paradise decor" that my girlfriend fell in love with. If you are going to Key West to party on duval street, you will have about a 20 minute walk to the really happening part, but plenty to do all up and down duval. No complaints, just a pleasant stay.

There are hardly any beaches in Key West and the fact there is a beach attached to this hotel at all puts it in the above average catagory. The Hotel IS across the street from the ocean and there are three pools available for guests. I don't think you'll find many hotels in Key West with three pools. I doubt you will find any bigger parking lot either except for maybe the Casa Marina. There are different grades of rooms available at this hotel at different prices. I know the lower priced rooms aren't as nice. I've stayed at this motel several times in a higher price room and I've always been satisfied.


I'm visiting again at the end of this week for the first time in a year
and I'll check it out carefully to see if there are any changes that
would lower my opinions. If there are, I'll repost to this site.

Southernmost not worth it

This hotel was ok...not worth the money at all. For the amount I spent per night, I was expecting a lot more. The parking lot was not big enough, so we ended up parking on the street. The pools were average.
When I called to make a resevation, the agent boasted that the hotle was accross the street from the beach, but it wasn't, it was around the block, and the beach wasn't that nice anyway. There are plenty of hotels in the area that are less exspensive, this one was not worth the money

Do not stay here; vandalism at hotel

This hotel is TERRIBLE! Do NOT stay here! My car was VANDALIZED and
DAMAGED in the hotel parking lot! The hotel offered nothing in return.
CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWEFUL. Instead of a pleasant trip to Key West it
was the most expensive vacation. BUT, I WILL BE TAKING THEM TO COURT
FOR THE DAMAGES.Simple customer service could have resolved this
situation but the hotel only cares about squeeking every penny out of
its guests.DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!

Average Motel and Great Sun

My husband and I went to Key West for our wedding and honeymoon. Due to our wedding planner we received a newley remodeled room with a fridge, 2 queen beds and a big bathroom. The two other couples that stayed at the property had tiny rooms. The pool seemed clean but closed early.
One block away was the Atlantic Ocean which was dirty and full of seaweed. If you are looking to relax on the beach Key West is not the place. The motel is quiet and away from the busy part of Duval Street.
The washer and dryer were outside in a dirty alley filled with junk.
The tiki bar was good with no problems billing our tab to our room.
Always had plenty of towels.

I was sick for two days' due to eating at Sloppy Joe's. The motel is in the 'old town' part of Key West. We did not like the food in 'old town' so we went to the 'new town' to find familiar restaurants with good food. With the 100+ temps, sun burn and intense sun, biking or a moped was just to hot. Because all the entertainment, shopping and restaurants were 5 miles down Duval Street we rented a car even though the parking was hard to find and expensive. If you bring a camera that uses film you need to let it sit outside for one hour prior to use due to the lens foging up due to the high humidity. Overall was a good trip but would not go back.

the reservation staff was rude, the front desk person was rude, the room was tiny, the bathrooom window was backed up to a service area which was filthy, the air conditioning is so loud you have to turn your TV up which is what the neighbors have to do when they come in at all hours. the only positive thing I can say is that the bartenders were friendly and it's not a bad location (far enough from the center of town to be relatively quiet) I have been to Key West a number of times and this was the most disappointing accommodation.

Top Local Tips for Key West

White St. Pier Catch a great sunrise at the White St. Pier. I know you don't plan to be up that early but the beach at the Higgs park is wonderful in the early morning. Lots of parking, with locals walking, jogging and biking on the path and pier. Great photo ops as well. White St. parallels Duval about 10 block north. Follow it out to the pier and beach. Across the street is a dog park and bocci ball courts.

Don't miss La Te Da!!! The La Te Da restaurant/hotel has a cabaret place upstairs called the Crystal Room with fantastic shows! And don't miss the chicken pot pie they serve at lunch!
