Historical Traveller Reviews of Orchid Key Inn Hotel
Wow!!!
from DSheehanExcellent, Excellent, Excellent ! ! !
from PullingMyHairOutFirst and foremost, to really understand what makes the Orchid Key Inn a special place, one would probably need to be familiar with the geography of Key West and, accordingly, all of those locales you'd probably wish to avoid. Key West is a tricky place - filled with drunken out-of-towners, binging cruise go-ers, and those who want nothing more than to fill the T-shirt shops and tourist spots. Thankfully, the Orchid Key Inn isn't located near most of that. Instead, the Orchid Key Inn is situated about two-thirds of the way up Duval Street (nearer to the Southernmost Point than to Mallory Square). Accordingly, all of that noise from the drunken tourists and those crowding Mallory Square for the sunsets is left on the "low end" of Duval Street. This provides the perfect opportunity to retreat to your little oasis at the Orchid Key, where you can relax in the comfort of your room or by the pool.
The only sound you'll hear - aside from the occasional rooster - is the calming waterfall by the jaccuzzi. The rooms are sparkling and modern, the breakfasts are tasty, and the staff is well-informed and very helpful (Thanks Brandon!!). The pool area and courtyard are never crowded. And, from this part of Duval, you can easily get to great restaurants, clubs and other nightspots, within a few minutes.
My wife's and my stay at the Orchid Key was exactly what we were looking for. We're considering making it our annual pilgrimage.
What a beauty!
from mozekielThe rooms are huge, elegant, tastefully decorated and really comfortable. And the lounge and bathroom too. All kudos to John for his incredible foresight and creative talent!!
The pool and bar areas are just wonderful and sooo inviting. Class through and through!
I cannot wait to return.

from tricia33romantic getaway
from justin-on-the-goMy wife and I were on a weekend road trip down to Key West for a little romantic getaway on somewhat of a wild hair. Friends of ours visited Key West in July and said that they had seen this place being built and it looked amazing. To our surprise when we called they had just had a grand opening. Not knowing much else about the hotel other than it was right on Duval Street I was nervous.
Upon arriving we could see the neon sign a few blocks from the place. It’s a beautiful two story historic neon sign. We pulled into the parking lot and we both hit each other in shock of how beautiful the place was. We entered the lobby like two kids in a candy store. The staff quickly checked us in as well as upgraded us free of charge to a suite as being one of the first 24 guests. We entered the room and wow! My wife gasped for air as she turned every corner. The room was nothing but luxury. Marble floors, plasma tvs, an incredible spa style bathroom with very nice glass tiles and a shower for at least two. Past the separate living room and bath retreat was a king size bedroom. This bed was beyond heavenly, crisp white linens and pillows multiple layers high.
We both unpacked and headed for the pool… You walk past these water features and gardens and around the corner from the Orchid Bar (more on the bar later) is a very nice pool and spa. The spa is nestled in a corner connected to a rain waterfall over a huge orchid mosaic art wall.
We cleaned up and attended the complimentary happy hour at the Orchid Bar. This place just does not stop. The bar was as beautiful as the rest. The service was top notch… We had a lovely glass of wine and were able to meet some lovely guests. Swapped stories about were to dine, dance, etc. The best thing is the location to everything. We never used the car… We walked to dinner (fav. was Martins and Michael’s), the beach, and the piano bar is just two block (la tea da). Hemingway’s and the historic light house are practically in the back yard of the hotel.
We ended up staying an extra day even though we both wanted to stay several more… The staff was very accommodating, room was beyond amazing. The Orchid Key really made our trip and we can’t wait to come back.
One more note: On top of everything the hotel offered; the high speed internet is free, the local & LONG distance calls are free, Happy Hour is FREE, and breakfast was also free. I thought nothing was free these days; Orchid Key proved me wrong…
Loved This New, Comfy Boutique Hotel
from MurphsterGirlOur room was spectacular. We had an environmentally friendly Jacuzzi tub, a HD flat-screen TV, great lighting and fabulous artwork, FREE long-distance telephone usage, and FREE internet usage. But the room’s best feature was its bed. Comfy, comfy, comfy, with all sorts of pillows and comforters. If you lower the temp in the room, it feels awesome to snuggle up in bed under all those covers.
Although we did not spend much time in the pool, the outdoor area is incredibly inviting. The chaise lounges are shaped in a way that invites you to fall asleep while catching a tan, there is a waterfall that soothes you as you lounge in the outdoor Jacuzzi, water gently overflows from large landscaping pots, music serenades you throughout the property (the speakers look like landscaping rocks), and you are never more than a few feet away from liquid sustenance provided by the owners in their Orchid Bar. There were cold drinks available, water, beer and wine. This is also where the hotel serves a continental breakfast to its guests.
It is clear that the owners, Bill and John, wanted their new hotel to be “green” friendly. Everything about it is designed in a way that is mindful of its impact on the environment. And even if you don’t stay there, make a point of visiting the reception area to take a look at the unique wall that periodically changes color. It is very cool indeed.
The owners also own the Almond Tree Inn across the street – where we have stayed as well. And while you cannot go wrong spending time at either location, these two properties are very different.
We loved the Orchid Key Inn. It truly is a winner.
Top Local Tips for Key West
Everything's prettier when you're drunk Key West is getting run down and dingy. If you're not drunk it's easy to see. It's a great place to party if you don't care about cleanliness or quality. Mardi Gras is over for Key West.
Bar hopping No matter how much you drink, don't ride the bull at wild bills.
FOOD/TRANSPORTATION I have to recommend the cheeseburger and actually all food at the Irish pub on Duval near the KeyLodge Motel,,not Irish Kevins,,,,,,This was the best Cheeseburger by far I have ever had and the meatloaf and the size of the dinner was phenomenal at the Jacks ahhhhh something,,on Duval about in the middle of Duval,,its more like a sports bar but tremendous food for the price!!! For transportation Do not rent a car,,,,rent a moped/scooter for about $30 and you will have a blast seeing all of keywest, with the art galleries and litttle stores and sidestreets.
