Historical Traveller Reviews of Orchid Key Inn Hotel

Wow!!!

from DSheehan
My husband and I searched for hours for last minute accomodations for an anniversary trip to Key West. I am so glad that we found the Orchid Key Inn online! From entering the hotel lobby at check-in to, our room and the pool area, it was not just what it appeared on the website, but better! We had a King room that was beautifully decorated with a very serene, retro decor. The bath and shower were wonderful & CLEAN. The room even smelled new. Above all things was the bed. It was so comfortable we called back to find out what kind and where we could buy one! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the location could not be better. We have raved to all of our friends about the Orchid Key and are looking forward to our next trip!

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent ! ! !

No review of the Orchid Key Inn could possibly do the place any real justice. But, I'll try!

First and foremost, to really understand what makes the Orchid Key Inn a special place, one would probably need to be familiar with the geography of Key West and, accordingly, all of those locales you'd probably wish to avoid. Key West is a tricky place - filled with drunken out-of-towners, binging cruise go-ers, and those who want nothing more than to fill the T-shirt shops and tourist spots. Thankfully, the Orchid Key Inn isn't located near most of that. Instead, the Orchid Key Inn is situated about two-thirds of the way up Duval Street (nearer to the Southernmost Point than to Mallory Square). Accordingly, all of that noise from the drunken tourists and those crowding Mallory Square for the sunsets is left on the "low end" of Duval Street. This provides the perfect opportunity to retreat to your little oasis at the Orchid Key, where you can relax in the comfort of your room or by the pool.

The only sound you'll hear - aside from the occasional rooster - is the calming waterfall by the jaccuzzi. The rooms are sparkling and modern, the breakfasts are tasty, and the staff is well-informed and very helpful (Thanks Brandon!!). The pool area and courtyard are never crowded. And, from this part of Duval, you can easily get to great restaurants, clubs and other nightspots, within a few minutes.

My wife's and my stay at the Orchid Key was exactly what we were looking for. We're considering making it our annual pilgrimage.

What a beauty!

I was fortunate enough to play "guinea pig" and try the inn before it officially opened. It was an awesome experience even though the inn wasn't fully up-and-running.

The rooms are huge, elegant, tastefully decorated and really comfortable. And the lounge and bathroom too. All kudos to John for his incredible foresight and creative talent!!

The pool and bar areas are just wonderful and sooo inviting. Class through and through!

I cannot wait to return.

Orchid Beauty

We were sent to the Orchid Key Inn from another place where he had been booked and although skeptical at first, we were totally bowled over. It is a small complex as it is an old renovated motel, but has been transformed into a beauty. The location is perfect on Duval St so no need to move your car (parking is at a premium on the island). Very trendy finishing, spotlessly clean, huge shower, luxurious robes and the staff was very accommodating. We had a computer problem and they had their techie check it out while we were out and about......no charge. Breakfast was more than adequate and happy hour around the pool was a delight. Can't wait to go back!

Best Place to Stay!

from bossybroker
We stayed on New Years Day and the next day. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The only down fall was the air conditioning was a little weird. We liked that we could swim whenever we wanted to and that the grounds we so well maintained. It was a great location and the staff was FANTASTIC! We will stay there again!

Just happened to stumble across a lil piece of paradise

from slemory
My finance and I had driven from North Carolina to Miami for a cruise. Since we had already driven 12 hours we decided to extend our vacation and drive on down to Key West..Neither of us had ever been and had always wanted to see the sunset, which by the way is AMAZING!! We had not booked a room since the decision to visit was last minute. We just happened to be driving by and decided to pull in and check on the rate..everywhere we had called either had No vacancy or was well over $150 a night. From the moment we pulled in the parking lot I loved the Orchid Key Inn. The recepion area was beautiful and the staff was very helpful. We ended up getting a great deal..$149 for a weekend night and $139 for weekday nights (this was just a room but with a king bed). The room was breath-taking! Very clean and upscale. Not what you would imagine for a hotel in the middle of the action of Duvel street. The location was great..We never had to drive anywhere the whole 4 days we were there! The 24 hour hot tub was wonderful and the hotel was very quiet seeing as it is a smaller hotel only having 24 rooms. I highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to stay there again if we ever get to visit Key West again!!!

Check out this beautiful remodel!!

Reviews from earlier this year are no longer accurate! We were thrilled with the room and service of this inn. The grounds were immaculate, comfortable, intimate, and relaxing. Hard to believe we were on Duvall St. and so close to all the action! The room was beautifully decorated and a great use of the space with a wall-mounted big screen TV. The bathroom had a nice deep sink and a huge shower. Happy Hour is hosted in the evening, and in the morning, breakfast is offered with a very helpful attendant. The pool and hot tub are open 24 hours. Parking on the main strip can be difficult to find, so we were very happy to have the parking spot available. We had no problems with the roosters as others have (the roosters are part of the Key West experience --only way to avoid them is earplugs!) We were fortunate to receive a great rate for the value with a walk-in reservation. No question, we would stay there again.

loved the room

What a place. It had only been open for 2wks when we stayed. We just happened to stumble on it.We had a one bedroom suite, and payed for just a room.It was pure luxury even down to the shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom, the shower was huge more than enough for me,it even had a weighing scale so i knew if i had put on weight while i was on our 2wks stay in Florida. The pool was a bit small but there was only 6 of us using it.Its not one of the cheapest, but my GOD it was worth it.

romantic getaway

from justin-on-the-go
Absolutely the nicest hotel we have ever traveled to…

My wife and I were on a weekend road trip down to Key West for a little romantic getaway on somewhat of a wild hair. Friends of ours visited Key West in July and said that they had seen this place being built and it looked amazing. To our surprise when we called they had just had a grand opening. Not knowing much else about the hotel other than it was right on Duval Street I was nervous.
Upon arriving we could see the neon sign a few blocks from the place. It’s a beautiful two story historic neon sign. We pulled into the parking lot and we both hit each other in shock of how beautiful the place was. We entered the lobby like two kids in a candy store. The staff quickly checked us in as well as upgraded us free of charge to a suite as being one of the first 24 guests. We entered the room and wow! My wife gasped for air as she turned every corner. The room was nothing but luxury. Marble floors, plasma tvs, an incredible spa style bathroom with very nice glass tiles and a shower for at least two. Past the separate living room and bath retreat was a king size bedroom. This bed was beyond heavenly, crisp white linens and pillows multiple layers high.
We both unpacked and headed for the pool… You walk past these water features and gardens and around the corner from the Orchid Bar (more on the bar later) is a very nice pool and spa. The spa is nestled in a corner connected to a rain waterfall over a huge orchid mosaic art wall.
We cleaned up and attended the complimentary happy hour at the Orchid Bar. This place just does not stop. The bar was as beautiful as the rest. The service was top notch… We had a lovely glass of wine and were able to meet some lovely guests. Swapped stories about were to dine, dance, etc. The best thing is the location to everything. We never used the car… We walked to dinner (fav. was Martins and Michael’s), the beach, and the piano bar is just two block (la tea da). Hemingway’s and the historic light house are practically in the back yard of the hotel.
We ended up staying an extra day even though we both wanted to stay several more… The staff was very accommodating, room was beyond amazing. The Orchid Key really made our trip and we can’t wait to come back.
One more note: On top of everything the hotel offered; the high speed internet is free, the local & LONG distance calls are free, Happy Hour is FREE, and breakfast was also free. I thought nothing was free these days; Orchid Key proved me wrong…

Loved This New, Comfy Boutique Hotel

from MurphsterGirl
We spent a couple of nights at this brand new, upscale Key West boutique hotel, the Orchid Key Inn. The hotel opened less than a week ago and I believe we were the hotel’s first guests! It is located where the old Key Lodge Motel used to be – right on Duval Street, but with the additional benefit of being just a few short blocks away from the rowdy bars and partygoers. (Disregard any reviews from before October 2008 because they would pertain to the old motel that no longer exists.)

Our room was spectacular. We had an environmentally friendly Jacuzzi tub, a HD flat-screen TV, great lighting and fabulous artwork, FREE long-distance telephone usage, and FREE internet usage. But the room’s best feature was its bed. Comfy, comfy, comfy, with all sorts of pillows and comforters. If you lower the temp in the room, it feels awesome to snuggle up in bed under all those covers.

Although we did not spend much time in the pool, the outdoor area is incredibly inviting. The chaise lounges are shaped in a way that invites you to fall asleep while catching a tan, there is a waterfall that soothes you as you lounge in the outdoor Jacuzzi, water gently overflows from large landscaping pots, music serenades you throughout the property (the speakers look like landscaping rocks), and you are never more than a few feet away from liquid sustenance provided by the owners in their Orchid Bar. There were cold drinks available, water, beer and wine. This is also where the hotel serves a continental breakfast to its guests.

It is clear that the owners, Bill and John, wanted their new hotel to be “green” friendly. Everything about it is designed in a way that is mindful of its impact on the environment. And even if you don’t stay there, make a point of visiting the reception area to take a look at the unique wall that periodically changes color. It is very cool indeed.

The owners also own the Almond Tree Inn across the street – where we have stayed as well. And while you cannot go wrong spending time at either location, these two properties are very different.

We loved the Orchid Key Inn. It truly is a winner.

Top Local Tips for Key West

Everything's prettier when you're drunk Key West is getting run down and dingy. If you're not drunk it's easy to see. It's a great place to party if you don't care about cleanliness or quality. Mardi Gras is over for Key West.

Bar hopping No matter how much you drink, don't ride the bull at wild bills.

FOOD/TRANSPORTATION I have to recommend the cheeseburger and actually all food at the Irish pub on Duval near the KeyLodge Motel,,not Irish Kevins,,,,,,This was the best Cheeseburger by far I have ever had and the meatloaf and the size of the dinner was phenomenal at the Jacks ahhhhh something,,on Duval about in the middle of Duval,,its more like a sports bar but tremendous food for the price!!! For transportation Do not rent a car,,,,rent a moped/scooter for about $30 and you will have a blast seeing all of keywest, with the art galleries and litttle stores and sidestreets.
