Love the OCean Key Resort!
from Jillybean1953Outstanding in every way; exceeded our high expectations
from photouristFirst, the location could not be better. It's close to all the cool stuff to do, restaurants, right on the piers and docks, but just enough away from the street to avoid most of the noise from the continuous party that Key West seems to be.
The room was outstanding. We had a "small" room, which included an ample living room with a balcony, a convertable couch (kids slept there) a dining area and a reasonable kitchen, a separate bedroom (with door :-) and a great bathroom with a jacuzzi. There was even a washer-dryer in the unit, which we used several times. The decor was actually nice -- no "hotel art" but instead an interesting and nicely done room. It was very clean and well stocked.
Service was very good. Our washer broke on Christmas Eve and within a few hours they had replaced the whole thing with another working washer! Wow.
The resort ammenities were great. Nice pool and poolside bar and open air restaurant with great views of the harbors and sunsets. The main restuarant servs breakfast, and we ate there most days -- really unusual and excellent breakfast food. I never would have eaten there except the resort included in our price a large bunch of breakfast and beverage coupons -- enough that we never bought a breakfast and had enough drinks for the week. This was a wonderful thing -- I would have gotten price-sensitive without these (which I hate on a vacation).
Bottom line: this was the best places I have stayed for a vacation. Too bad we had a 2-year old and 6-year old -- we might have been able to have some fun otherwise :-))

from A TripAdvisor MemberThe Ocean Key..only place to stay.
from jbturphA great way to celebrate a special occasion!
from A TripAdvisor MemberOcean Key exceeded my expectations. We had a deluxe room facing Mallory square with a balcony and a jacuzzi in the bathroom. The room was spacious. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever stayed in. The toiletries were so good, I stopped in a the gift shop downstairs at check out to buy a full size bottle of the shower gel. The staff was friendly, professional and always seemed to be there exactly when you needed them. Also the turn down service was cool because instead of chocolate, they placed a sea shell on your bed. I loved it! It was quiet at night so sleeping was not a problem and because of the time of year we traveled, we had a perfect view of the sunset. It isn't cheap, however, I highly recommend Ocean Key Resort in Key West.
Loved the whole thing !!!!!!!!
from BerlucchiWent out first thing in the am to Ocean key to see if they had openings. They did and gave us quite a cheap "walk in" rate. Had our choice of a couple suites and chose one with a view of Mallory Square and a jacuzzi in the middle. LOVED IT. We didn't use the extra room in the suite which is when you came in but was a great barrier for hallway noise. Pool was small but nice with plenty of chairs and poolside service. Pier is a great place to watch sunset with reggae bands ( don't get a room overlooking pier though, think it would be very loud).
I had no problem with the cruise ships. Yes they were there everday when we got up but were not there for sunset. Was nice to sit on our balcony and watch the sunset and action in square. Everyone there is WONDERFUL - SO NICE ! We loved our stay here and would definitely go back there everytime. p.s. cuban restaraunt next to Hotel by Mallory Square is wonderful !
Great Hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberVery nice...

from A TripAdvisor MemberWe then toured the different hotels: Hilton, Hyatt, Wyndam Casa Marina, Pierhouse and some local B&Bs. BY FAR, the Ocean Key was sooo much better. Beautiful (new) rooms, great location, super friendly staff and clean, clean, clean. The only drawback with the Ocean Key was the walls seemed a little thin in the Junior Suites when your neighbors were being loud...however, after reporting the complaint we were immediately moved to the Ocean Front room at no extra charge...very quiet (...and you can watch the sunset from you room in the jacuzzi tub). When you get tired of the touristy food, we highly reccommend two places:
1. El Mazon de Pepe (?) Cuban food off Mallory Square...just follow the music and get a mojito.
2. Pepe's on Green street near the harbor for home cooked meatloaf or a steak...don't miss the Big Ass Fan!
Make the effort to go to the Dry Tortugas -so worth it and the best snorkeling by far.
Worth every penny!
from mmmaulFeatures included two full baths, a large two person jacuzzi in the master bedroom, three tv's with vcr's, two boom boxes, a full kitchen, the best smelling shampoo and soap I've ever smelled (it's the little things), and a full sized washer and dryer that was not even mentioned when I made the reservation. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive and the location was perfect, despite the cruise ships (which didn't hinder my view at all). I've stayed at a lot of fine resorts, but it wasn't until the Ocean Key that I actually made it a point to tell the desk how impressed I was.
Top Local Tips for Key West
The Sunset Celebration Since there is usually always a cruise ship docked at the Westin, We found if you get to Mallory Square around 5:30ish in Feb, (an hour before sunset) and you get a prime spot on the end of the dock at Mallory Square. Don't move..cuz you will lose your spot. You will see the most beautiful sight!
Don't miss the Seaplane! We booked a flight on Seaplanes of Key West for a day at Dry Tortuga. This was the highlight of our trip. It's pricey, but worth every penny!
Don't rent the car (if you are in good health and physical condition) We flew directly into Key West mostly because we only had a few short days to enjoy ourselves and a 4 hour drive down from Miami (or more per some friends who drove) seemed too long, maybe next trip. I could not have been more pleased with this decision. A car would have been more of a liability and expense than it would be worth. Not only did our hotel charge $20/day to park, we witnessed a scooter get rear ended by a car, a shuttle bus hit the mirror of a parked mini van, and other near misses with small streets, lots of tourists and many drunk pedestrians as the night went on. We were able to walk from one side of Duval to the other. There are trolley's and tour trains to take you where you need to go. If you so choose rent a scooter for a day! It was only $15 taxi fare for 2 from the airport to 0 Duval. Bikes are also available to rent, they are throughout town if your feet get sore. Even when I come back with my 71 year old mom, we will walk and use the trolley.
