very nice hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We arrived at 6pm and tried the hotel for rooms. The hotel looks to have been done up just before we arrived. We got a room at the front of the hotel and every thing was clean and new, it was the most comfy bed I have ever slept in. The only problem with this hotel is its very expensive and you need a car to get to the action.

Worst experience

from Carlettino
The hotel is more than 5 miles away from the centre of Key West, directly located on a noisy highway. There are a lot of much nicer (and cheaper) hotels located directly in the centre of Key West, so you're not forced to use a car for going there.

The price of 130.- US$ per night (excl. taxes and without breakfast) is highly overrated for a hotel of this bad quality (stinking rooms, no services, unqualified and unpolite staff ...).

Never again!

Filthy!

Probably one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in! It was dirty, the elevator was a slow, filthy nightmare and the front desk cluless about ordinary things. Never again!

Filthy!

This has got to be one of the filthiest hotels I have ever stayed in. There were dead roaches in the bed, in the bathroom, dead spiders - it was DISGUSTING! I complained to the front desk and they had housekeeping come to our room immediately, but only hours later, we found LIVE roaches EVERYWHERE! It was a NIGHTMARE! I know that Florida has bugs, but this was terrible. My pictures are only what I could stomach, but I would NEVER return to this hotel. The concierge recommended below average restaurants. She didn't know what an Aloe Wrap was after I inquired about a location that would give one after I became very badly sunburned. Overall, this location is suitable only for drunken frat boys at best.

Scam hotel!

Me and my husband had booked this hotel 4 month before we arrived. In the booking we had especially booked a room with balkony och patio facing the ocean. We even got a confirmation of this. When we arrived to the hotel we first found a beautiful pool and a good atmosphere BUT the room we got was an average room with no balcony nor patio. When we went down to the front desk to let them know there must have been a mistake..they told us in a very unfriendly way that we shouldn´t take for granted that if we had booked a room with balcony or patio - it certainley didn´t mean we´d actually get it! It was only a request! A request we had payed for though! Since this was our honeymoon we were very disappointed and decided that we would have our money back and move to a decent hotel that doesen´t build theis business on scams. When this unfriendly woman in the front desk understood we were serious she just said, "You are More than welcome to leave!" We did, and we moved to Radisson SAS which were a great hotel with a great pool with friendly staff!! Never stay at Courtyard Marriott!

Oh No! Marriot has sold this property!!!

from worldtravel15825
The pool is fantastic for Key West - very large and beautiful tropical plants. The tiki bar is great, Alan the waiter alot of fun. Much better than the Courtyard Waterfront and the Fairfield for Marriot point-users. But good grief, I just learned that Marriot has sold this property. First the wonderful Casa Marina resort and now the better Courtyard....why is Marriot stepping away from Key West? Other competitor chains have much nicer properties (Hilton, Hyatt) maybe time for a change in allegiance!

Loved the Pool

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just had a wonderful stay at the Courtyard. Staff very friendly and always helpful. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable and well worth paying a few extra dollars for the view over the pool. Alan's breakfast in the Courtyard Cafe just topped it off. We'll certainly be back.

Enjoyed the Gulf Courtyard

from A TripAdvisor Member
From check-in to check-out, service by the staff was above average for a chain hotel. The reception desk personnel, the concierge, and the cafe staff were all cordial and attentive to your needs. Other hotel personnel was also receptive and easily approachable for answering questions about the hotel and the city of Key West. The room accommodations, the hotel grounds (bar and pool areas) along with the cafe for breakfast and lunch, were above average for prices being charged. The hotel overlooks the Gulf of Mexico and has a tropical decor. These combinations made for a very relaxing enviroment for our vacaton. I will again stay at this hotel when traveling to Key West Florida.

Almost a honeymoon disaster!

from A TripAdvisor Member
When we arrived, we found our room to be in the way back of the hotel, in the motel-like flats, not attached to the hotel. We were in a back parking lot with roosters crowing loudly back there. The hem was out on one side of the sheer curtains and they were very wrinkled. There were also water stains on the lampshades. The room was old and musty-looking. We were disappointed as we were on our honeymoon. We also noticed there was no door sweeper and there was about 2-3 inches where even a snake could have crawled under our door. When we mentioned this to the front desk we were told to stuff towels under the door! We asked to be moved and were told the hotel was full. That evening while talking with the bartender at the Tiki Bar, we noticed how empty the bar and pool area were and mentioned it to the bartender. She told us that's because the hotel is not full! Okay... However, we decided to make the best of it. The next morning we tried to make coffee and found there was no pot to the coffeemaker. Housekeeping brought us another (which didn't fit) and when we plugged it in, we found the electricity did not work in the bathroom. My husband then put his foot down and demanded that we be moved. The hotel finally obliged and put us inside the main hotel, where the accommodations were very nice, with walk-out patio, by the pool and everything. My husband called the corporate office about our experience at which time they only gave us one complimentary breakfast for our inconvenience. My last comment is that while the front desk staff was very friendly when we complained, they did nothing for us -- they smiled a lot, but did nothing, until we were at our wit's end. Even though they made good in the end, I would not stay there again.

Honeymoon chaos

from A TripAdvisor Member
My new husband and I booked a room at the hotel months in advance for our honeymoon. After driving 1800 miles we arrived to find that our room was not ready. We took it in stride and went out to dinner, upon arriving back at the hotel our room was still not ready, 3 hours later!!! We finally decided to bite the bullet and spend our honeymoon money on another hotel. After our honeymoon had concluded, 3 days early due to lack of funds, we contacted the general manager who stated he would send out certificates for free nights stays. Now 1 year later I am still having occasional discussions trying to receive my certificates.

Top Local Tips for Key West

Jetskiing around the island We did this, the concierge at the hotel set it up, and it was a blast. You follow a guide (in our case, he was miles ahead of us) across the open ocean 27 miles around the island, takes about 3 hours. We had our kids, age 8 and 9, and they loved it too. We saw dolphins up close, and really felt like we got in the water. It was a little intense, big ocean waves, but a lot of fun.

do the trolley and rent a bike The trolley tour is a good way for first timers to Key West to decide on what you would like to see and do on the island. Go early...and get off as often as you like, as a new shuttle will be around in a half hour to get you to the next stop. There is 11 stops in all. (I think) I highly recommend. Also rent bicycles if the weather is reasonable. It's flat as a board with wide bike paths around the whole island that keep you safe from the other scooters and cars.

Best lunch Croissants de France on Duval Street was our favorite place to eat in Key West for breakfast, lunch and snacks. Not open for dinner. The asparagus soup is especially good.
