I love this place. The rooms are always clean and well appointed. Most of the rooms have their own outside seating areas (all have private baths). Delicious breakfast buffet and wonderful fun in the evening at the happy hour. This is an old historic building that was once the setting for a television show. One of the features that I find so appealing is the big front porch--I love sitting here having a cold drink after having been out all day. The staff are probably the best in Key West. They remember you from visit to visit and are very helpful making arrangements and/or recommendations. Mary Beth is the owner and she is on-site and is always available to answer questions. It was she who recommended what is now my favorite restaurant. I have stayed other places in Key West, but this is the place that I will always return to. The Inn is near enough to everything, yet far enough removed from the noise of Duval St. that you can get a good night's sleep. Another thing that I like about the Inn is that it has some beautiful locally painted furniture in it--so much more fun to see something so out of the ordinary.

Great place to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband & I had a great time in Key West largely due to the owners and staff of the Frances St. Bottle Inn. The social hour was so much more than we expected - the owners joined us and had a way of getting everyone together & talking, sharing funny stories and fun activities. That made the wonderful breakfast that much more fun when we knew the people we were eating with. We developed some friendships and even had dinner with some of the other couples staying at the Inn.
The location was great, too. Close enough for shopping & dining, yet far enough away from the noise of Duval St. I would highly recommend this Inn to anyone looking for a great time in Key West.

A Holiday Treat

from NewJerseyNomad
This was a return trip for us and we stayed at our favorite inn. However, this time we opted to stay in room one. We loved the porch outside our room and often ate our breakfast there. My husband would bring a tray from the extensive breakfast buffet up to the room. This was a wonderful way to start the day. Afterwards, we would have the staff make us a dinner reservation and then talk to them about their recommendations for that day's outing. Our room was clean, comfortable and tropical in its appearance. We especially like the hand-painted furniture in the lobby (done by a local artist) and all the original island art. Since we were there over the Easter weekend, we were treated--as were all the guests-- to a special happy hour. In addition to the usual happy-hour drinks and hors d'oeuvres, the staff provided all the guests with hard-boiled eggs and dyes. What fun it was to dye eggs again, and the spirit of camaraderie was super. A great time was had by all of us. This was a real highlight. The Frances Street Bottle Inn is our favorite and only place to stay in Key West.

Hated the experience

I stayed here recently. I was surprised by the complete lack of warmth and hospitality. Sure, there was some cold breakfast and some chips for tea time, but the warmth that characterizes most bed and breakfasts was totally missing. If you are looking for a friendly atmosphere, you are probably better off staying in Comfort Inn!
I am not going back. And the location is not great either. It is not a mere "fifteen" minute walk from the beach as they claim.

I’m very sorry to hear that you were so disappointed with our Inn. We must have failed you in some way. As for our location, we are further off Duval Street than some like; that is what helps keep our Inn quiet at night. The beach we recommend all of our guests use is Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. Since it is a State Park there is an admission cost which we cover for our guests. There are closer beaches, but none, in our opinion, better. It is exactly one mile from our front steps into the water at Fort Zach. Guests can drive, bike or walk. I’m sorry if our estimate for you, traveling with your 5 year old son, was erroneous. We do not have a tea time, so I assume you are speaking about our social hour beginning at 5:30 at which we provide a variety of hot and cold snacks, sodas, beer and wine. For any confusion, I apologize to you and your family.

What Happened?

Very odd that we did not have the same experience as previous reviews here. I hate to be the oddball but as frequent B&B and small inn goers, Frances Street Bottle Inn left us feeling a bit unsatisfied - and we're not picky!

The bathroom was not cleaned throughout our stay and we even ran out of toilet tissue the last night which sent us on a hunt for more without luck. The bathroom was also really hot! We didn't sleep well as the bed was lumpy and way too soft. The walls are way too thin as all we heard throughout the day/night were doors slamming and people talking.
Breakfast was sufficient, but was taken away without a *last call* - at least on coffee.

We had a much warmer stay at another B&B later on. So much so we stayed an extra night!

Loved the quaint Bottle Inn!

from nmbonline
Great Place! My husband and I spent Memorial Day Week 2003 (7 nights) at the Frances Street Bottle Inn and loved it. It was a recommendation by my sister and her husband who have stayed there twice! Everyone is fabulously nice, the rooms are quaint, and it's fairly close to the central part of Key West. The only drawback is that it's not close to any beaches or a sun deck and pool. (Of course, you don't necessarily go to KW for the beaches) If we go back, we will probably stay at the Hilton or Hyatt just for that reason, but not because we didn't enjoy the Bottle Inn. Marketa was soooo nice and helped give us recommendations for restaurants and places to find a beach. We stayed in a pretty small room with an attached bath, but it was so comfortable - we felt like it was our "home" for the week. The bed was great! Our view was of the courtyard out one window and a rooftop out the other. But we didn't spend much time during the day there! We loved playing with the remote control A/C.We DEFINITELY recommend renting a scooter - that was our favorite part of Key West! When we were bored of the restaurant and bar scene in the evenings (even though they are all so great and fun!), we would just ride around the island and explore the area. It was a great way to find some out-of-the way eateries. Another AWESOME recommendation... take a sunset cruise aboard the FLORIDAYS which is a mono-hulled sailboat. -------------------------------------------- (Most charters in KW are aboard large catamarans - fun, but the Floridays is much more intimate) The crew is awesome and provide a great time for a reasonable price. ($40/pp) We also did the Kayak tour of the mangroves which was NOT worth it. It may have just been a grumpy tour guide - he didn't like a couple of the other passengers on our boat and made all of us uncomfortable. (We didn't either, but it was his job to make them have fun anyway, right? :)) It was very relaxing and interesting, but we could have probably spent the $80 differently. All in all, if you are looking for a quaint, affordable place to stay in Key West, we would definitely recommend the Bottle Inn for the great staff (Mary Beth, Marketa, and Dennis), the awesome communal porch from which you can people watch, the lovely rooms, and the location. Hope you have a great vacation there!

Bottle Inn charm

from A TripAdvisor Member
The very nice and colorful collection of antique bottles salvaged from the Key West harbor creates a charming atmosphere. We absolutely loved our room's upper balcony seating area. The owner is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We went, on the staff's recommendation, to Ft Jefferson on a sea-plane for the afternoon and had an incredible time touring the fort and sightseeing. A wonderful lodging if you are visiting Key West.

2nd Home

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I have been staying with Mary Beth and Jim for several years. We would not think of going anywhere else. We have our favorite room's and plan our trips around the availability of these rooms. This is like a 2nd home to us. It is so very peaceful and Mary Beth and her staff are like family. Then of course there is Jim...The place would not be "the place" with out him. Convienient, spotless, happy, great food, accomodating, what more can you ask for. We love it.

I have traveled around the world many times - both for business and pleasure. While I have stayed at top notch hotels with friendly staff, I much prefer the B&B experience as I am treated in a much more personal and familiar manner. This 'manner' is done to perfection at this B&B. MaryBeth McCulloch and her two top-notch managers are always available to ensure my vacation matches the splendid weather found in Key West - sunny, bright and warm! This IS my home away from home - especially in Room 8 with its private court yard and skylight - where I can watch the stars before falling asleep! In fact, I would recommend this B&B for single female travelers, too. I have traveled 'solo' several times and definitely appreciate the feeling of comfort a solo female will get by staying here.

A real birthday treat

from A TripAdvisor Member
I brought my husband to the Frances Street Bottle Inn to celebrate his 40th birthday. We had a spectacular time! The inn, the room, the food, and the staff were great! We walked around Key West during our 3 day stay and never saw a prettier spot than where the Bottle Inn was located. We sat on the inn's lower porch late each afternoon reading and people watching until social hour was served around 5:30. We visited with other guests from all around the world and then would enjoy an early diner at one of the nearby restaurants, Cafe Med being our favorite. My husband said it was the perfect place to celebrate his birthday.

Loved the Frances St Bottle Inn

from newshine
We just stayed at the Frances St Bottle Inn for 4 nights and would go back in a heartbeat! The staff is fabulous - helpful and attentive without being overbearing. The Inn is decorated with style and the rooms are clean and inviting. (I'm particularly fussy about bathroom cleanliness and the Bottle Inn was great on that score.) Every tip that the staff gave us about sights, restuarants, and directions was right on the mark. We enjoyed their late afternoon social hour - nice to unwind with a glass of wine and hors d'ouevres before heading out for dinner. The location is great too, near Duvall, but not too close. If you aren't used to street noise, ask for one of the rooms in the back - and the bonus there is a hot tub!

Top Local Tips for Key West

Take a jacket in the spring We were in Key West in Mid-March and, while it was in the 80's during most days, a couple of nights dipped into the low 60's. Don't be the dumb tourist by only taking shorts and t-shirts :)

Floridays Take the Floridays sunset cruise. Such a casual environment and with a small number of people on board you can really enjoy the ride.

Electric cars Get one! they are easy to park and eco friendly. They help keep the vehicle noise level down. Besides they are a fun way to get around!
