Historical Traveller Reviews of Crowne Plaza Hotel Key West La Concha

Had a great time!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Like others, I was a little nervous to stay here after reading some of the reviews. I hadn't planned to write one, but we had such a great time there that I thought it should get some positive reviews! Our non-smoking room was just that--no smoke. The air conditioner worked great. (two of the problems I was concerned about from reading reviews) It is in such a great spot that we could walk almost anywhere we wanted to go. We were on the 5th floor, and could hear some Duval Street noise, but were never awakened by it, and that's part of being in the great location. Every employee that we encountered was very friendly.
The maid service was excellent, and we even had turn-down service. We loved the pool area and pool bar, and didn't even go to the beach because it was nice to just relax and get some sun right there. My husband travels a lot, and we have stayed in hotels of all ranges of quality, and while this may not be a "five star" place, everyone was so friendly, the room was neat and clean, and we had such a nice time that I think it deserves the excellent rating. We plan to go back to Key West, and we'll definitely stay at La Concha again.

Loved La Concha

I had read many of the reviews before staying at La Concha. I was therefore a little nervous about the size of the room. Our room was great, the maid service was great, access to everything we wanted in and around Key West was great. La Concha was within walking distance to the Fort Zachary beach which is absolutely beautiful. The hotel had old world charm but was clean and well kept. The pool is small but there were always lounge chairs available no matter what time of day. I would definetely stay there again.

Would Never Stay Here Again

I have to say, whithout a doubt this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at in my life! The staff was rude, except for those that worked in the restaurant. The walls were so thin, we could hear the guy in the next room snooring! We could also hear there conversations like they were in the room with us. Duval Street is loud and rowdy......not the place to go if you want a quiet vacation. We did end up having a nice time; however, I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy!

Rude staff, poor housekeeping, paper thin walls...

As first time visitors to Key West, my friends and I decided that we would not take the risk of booking a small bed and breakfast, and instead went with the nationally recognized Crowne Plaza for our visit for a friends wedding. When we arrived at 2:00 to see if we could get an early check in, we were not surprised or upset that rooms were not yet available. We were told that we could be in the room by 3:00 and that we could lock up our luggage in the lobby while we went to lunch.
We came back at 4:30, only to be told that the rooms had not yet been cleaned (check in is at 4:00). The young girl who finally checked us in at 5:00 was obviously very new and easily flustered. She actually threw our key cards down in exasperation when she had a computer issue and exclaimed that she "hated this job". Her manager was right there and did not step in to remedy the situation or to put our minds at ease. We finally got our keys and retrieved our luggage from the holding area.
One of the suitcases was partially unzipped, although nothing appeard to be missing. We then checked into our non-smoking room that reaked of cigarettes. Our wakeup call that was placed for that evening was not delivered, and we were late for a rehearsal dinner that night.

Our room was cleaned only once during our 3 night stay, despite our being out of the room from 10am until 6pm every day. We repeatedly had to call for fresh towels and toilet paper. You could clearly hear conversations from the hall way and neighboring rooms. The staff was extremely rude except for one bell hop and the concierge.

The only thing about this place that was favorable was its central location on Duval Street. A number of the other wedding guests stayed in lovely bed and breakfasts with beautiful courtyards and comfortable rooms. Unless you want to be in the heart of seedy Duval street, try a bed and breakfast instead. Don't waste your money on the name, because you are not getting the typical Crowne Plaza product.

s it!!

This was my second visit to Key West. My wife had heard enough about the area and wanted to see it for herself. The first trip I stayed at the Merlin Guest House. A little off Duvall but a nice clean home. I can't say the same for the Crowne Plaza. Check in was 4pm. We arrived @ 4:15pm and there were no rooms clean. We decided that we would go to the pool for a little while. After changing in the restrooms it took almost 10 minutes for them to find a bellman to open a closet door and stuff our suitcase inside. The pool is on the roof and had more chemicals in it then we thought Iraq did. There was a large group of very drunk middle aged people, yelling and cursing at each other. We got the key to our room and opened the door to our non smoking room that actually still had smoke lingering inside. I went back down stairs and they gave us another key. The room is very basic and bland. I paid $60.00 less at the Merlin House and it was 100 times better. Our TV didn't work and not that you go to Key West to watch TV, but while your wife takes an hour to get ready it's nice to see what's going on. I called the front desk and they sent up an 80 year old lady who spoke 9 words of english. The one she knew really well was "broken". This hotel is in a great location. If you want to be in the heart of Key West's night life and don't care if you sleep in a tent or this hotel I say book it. If you want to enjoy the true Key West, do a little research and find one of the 200 B&B's and stay there.

ve ever stay in

Where to begin on this review. We arrived at the hotel and had probably the rudest service I've ever had. We asked the lady working the front desk for directions to the car rental place to return our car. She sad she had no idea how to get out by the airport and that we should ask somebody on the street. Yeah, thanks! Then we had requested a non-smoking room when making our reservation and ended up getting a room that smelled like a bar (and so did all our clothes). To top it off, the air conditioning wasn't working and had to sit and sweat in our room at night. The only thing going for this place was its location. There are so many nice little hotels and bed & breakfasts in the same area for the same price with much better service that I would never return to this place.

worth every penny!

fiancee and i stayed for a wonderful summer week.absolutely beautiful!service was wonderful.the location is great! La Concha was within walking distance of almost everything-we could set out in the afternoon and stop periodically for a margherita as we walked;) beautiful, enchanting and most of all soooooo ROMANTIC!the only drawbacks were the rooms were on the smallish side-who care,we had a balcony room and got to watch all the action unfold on the strip below [hehe]and it is like my title implies a little pricey-absolutely worth every penny!!

t Wait To Return!

Just returned from our Christmas holiday in Key West, FL. This was our second trip to KW. Both husband & I enjoyed our stay at the Crowne Plaza.

The hotel staff were pleasant and always ready to assist when needed.
The rooms are a little on the small side (although I must add we have stayed in smaller) and are decorated with a cariibbean flair.

This hotel is centally located and within walking distance to everything you could possibly want to do in Key West.

Looking forward to our next trip!

t be happier..Gets my vote..

We -two couples-planned to take the hi-speed ferry from Ft Myers to Key West and had made reservations at LaConcha for 2 nights-Nov 3-5. The ferry was cancelled ( a big disappointment) so we were forced to make the 8 hour drive. (LaConcha graciously agreed to waive any fees if we chose to cancel our rooms.) As we had reuested, we were assigned 2 neighboring rooms but one had a smoky smell. As soon as I contacted Rob on the desk, he moved both f our rooms with no question and with great apologies. Both rooms were clean and neat. The location is perfect and every employee we encountered seemed to genuinely care when they asked if everything was OK. Would we stay here again- you bet!!

Top Local Tips for Key West

great restaurants You do not need a car. Everything is within walking distance.

Best place to eat is still Louie's Backyard! I've spent a LOT of time in Key West and have eaten at the majority of the restaurants there and hands down this is the best place for dinner. NOT a place for the kiddies - romantic or with a group of adults would be ideal. A lovely location cantilevered over the ocean next to Dog Beach. Everything from great wine list to fantastic desserts. GO you won't regret it! http://www.louiesbackyard.com/

Captain's Corner Dive Shop Fabulous dive trips with very accomodating dive masters and staff. Nice boat and easy location to access close to Duval Street on the water.
