Top Local Tips for Key West
Good Tips Rent a bike to get around. Go to Blue Heaven restaurant on Thomas St - bkst, lunch & dinner. Quiet public beaches at Fort Taylor Park ... just through the Truman Annex. Walk up and down Duval Street and stop and have a beer everyonce in a while. Do a key lime shot. Down at the far west end of Duval .. there is a cool bar there.
Touristy This was my first, and probably last, visit to Key West. It's very touristy and crowded. On the weekend many drunk young adults parade up and down the main streets with alcoholic drinks in their hands (apparently this is legal), so much so that the largest bars have bouncers and security people. There are some nice restaurants. If you're looking for gay Key West it apparently almost doesn't exist anymore. There are a couple drag bars and a couple others, but mostly it has become a magnet for middle aged straight couples from cruise ships during the week and drunks on the weekend. Lots and lots and lots of houses for sale which tells you something.
Key West Trolley Book the Key West pass port which includes the trolley, Hemingway house and a couple of other sites. The passport was easy to book, easy to pick up and the trolley staff was wonderful. If you get Louie as your trolley driver, you will laugh the whole trip!
