We had a great time at The Blue marlin. it was our first time visiting Key West & we were referred to this hotel by a friend. The location was great, we parked our car in the free on-site parking & walked everywhere. The service was great, not to mention clean. My husband & I felt like we had the pool all to ourselves. We went to Key West for a family function & we all stayed at different places. My Hotel, The Blue Marlin, was rated the hotel we will ALL stay at the next time. Thanks for a great time!!!

Very Pleasant

from ckron
I have stayed at a Bed and Breakfast in Key West, which is always a treat, so moving down to a motel is going to be a step down.
However, the Blue Marlin was a great place to stay - our corner room was huge and always clean.
The pool was very nice and clean as well.

I guess there isn't much to review b.c who the heck stays in their motel in KEY WEST?!

: )

Great place to stay !

Me and my wife stopped here sept 2004 for 3 nights on our honeymoon. The staff were great and pool very clean and nice and clean rooms too, also good value for Key West.

Great value

Have stayed at the Blue Marlin many times over a period of 15 years.Always found the property well kept. The location is great, away from the hustle and bustle of the other end of Duval Street and all the night life.We always rent bicycles to get around.Great value for its proximity to Old Town.

Not a bad joint

from tmarcone
Picked this joint on the recomendation of a friend who had stayed there. One block off of Duval, about a mile or so walk to the "party" area of Duval. At $95 a night it was clean, staff was friendly, pool was happening and it felt secure. I would recomend it and stay there again.

Great Place

We stayed at the Blue Marlin in May for 2 nights. The service was friendly and very helpful, the spacious room was clean and the pool area was absolutely great. You will get coffee all time and the cont. breakfast was ok (orange juice, jam, cream cheese and bagels). Located close to the southernmost point, you have to cross the island to watch the sunset.
I absolutely recommend the Blue Marlin. It's a very nice place to relax after a long night at key west or for a short family stay.

Not too happy

It may be the worst hotel I have ever been too. We were charged a very high deposit with out being told about it. That isn't even where things got bad. We had construction in the room next to us the first night so I asked the front desk if it would continue the rest of the week. They said it was the last night. Needless to say it wasn't. They were laying carpet at 9:00AM which requires an air nail gun. The worst part was they had extra hotel rooms so they could have moved us. Besides the construction the hotel is not in a good location in comparison to the main bars, the pool looks much nicer in the pictures then it does in person and the staff is unfrienly.

The rooms are clean, you feel safe parking your car there and staying in the room.

OK for the money - this is Key West after all

from A TripAdvisor Member
Located at the quiet end of Duval St., I'd say about a mile from Malory Square at the other end and a half mile from Hemingway House. Nearby is the very nice South Beach, also a good beachside eating establishment from which you can view sunsets, and a couple of inexpensive bike rentals. Large, dated, clean rooms, except for some carpet stains. Saw several rooms and they all looked very similar. Adequate continental breakfast. Rooms all face nice swimming pool. Plenty of parking, nice setting. Good for families.
Got this at their website for $99 in late January, which is reasonable by Key West standards - probably higher in Feb/March. (There's one cheaper place across the street as well as more expensive other places nearby.)

Clean, but not family friendly

from bkifan
We travelled at the end of July and quite surprisingly the place was packed. We thought our room was clean and roomy. The problem was there were two teenagers, two adults, and a baby. The baby's mother was told it was against their policy (wouldn't show us this) to allow three children and 2 adults in a room and forced them to either leave or pay for an extra room. However, we later saw tons of people in one room so that was very disappointing. We also thought the front desk people were very rude.

A great place to stay in Key West!

My husband and I stayed at the Blue Marlin Motel from July 7-10, 2004. Our rate was $75 per night - if you book online it saves you a little money. Upon check-in we received a nice discount booklet for shops and restaurants in Key West and a coupon for a free color changing bag! We used most of the buy-one-get-one-free drink coupons when we went bar hopping one night. It saved us a lot if money because we only spent $35 for a full night of drinking for two people - and that included tips!

We booked the Blue Marlin Motel for two nights, but after we got there we decided to stay for a third night. Our original non-smoking room wasn't available so they had to put us in a smoking room for the final night. The room reeked of smoke so bad that I became nauseous. We asked the front desk if there was anything they could do about it and when we returned to our hotel after lunch they had put a machine in the room that gets rid of smoke - it was amazing. You couldn't tell that anyone had smoked in the room after that.

Our original room was a corner room above the office - it was huge! The air conditioning was great since we were there during the hottest time of the year. The pool was very nice, although not very refreshing since the water was about 90 degrees in July. The continental breakfast was enough to tide us over until lunch, but not the greatest selection.

The hotel is only couple blocks from the Southernmost Point and about a 25 minute walk to Mallory Square which is at the other end of the island. The only time we had to drive somewhere was when we took a Jetski tour around Key West - everything else was within walking distance which is always great!

I would defnitely recommend the Blue Marlin Motel to anyone who wants to stay in downtown Key West!

Little Oasis!!

My sister and I stayed at the Blue Marlin last year and absolutely loved it. Staff was very friendly, hotel very clean...and loved the cold rooms after a hot day, and beautiful pool for a big group. This year we are bringing 20 people down for a big Birthday Bash with our husbands!
Thanks Blue Marlin!

Top Local Tips for Key West

Save the money on the Pirate Museum We tried the new Pirate Museum in Key West. Believe me, don't bother! It;s really lame and expensive

Route 1 Rocks Fly into Miami, rent a convertible and hit route 1. Took around 3 hours and was one of the best parts of the trip. Only drawback is driving back if you dont want to drop the extra money flying home out of Key West.

No Name Pub If driving, stop by the No Name Pub on Big Pine Island. A historic property with great food and service. Very low key and rustic, but not to be missed.
