Nothing Special

from A TripAdvisor Member
Nothing special about this resort. I was very disappointed in the room after having to pay $170/night for a partial ocean view. Our room was in need of renovations...king bed with plenty of room...bathroom is tiny...bath tub had so many patches we were afraid to stand in mold or mildew smell...just old and dirty looking. Small refrigerator but no microwave. Planes do land and take off right there but that was not a problem for us. I would not recommend this place to anyone who is planning on spending a lot of time down town...if you do...remember to bring lots of quarters with you for the parking meters (25 cents for every 15 min) or you can pay $2/hr in the parking lot...$13 for all day parking or pay the $8 for the shuttle. Pool area was great. We did not find the staff friendly or helpful. Would I stay here again...probably not...maybe at $80/night but not at the price I paid

Great Pool

The rooms were ok. Nothing special but a relatively inexpensive, clean place to sleep at night. The continental breakfast (included in the room price) wasn't bad. The pool area was beautiful.... surrounded by palm trees with the Ocean right across the street.

This motel is no more than a quarter mile from the airport, so you can hear (and see) the planes while at the pool and early in the morning or evening if you happen to be in your room, but with the AC unit running it really wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. ... and the planes tend to be small planes, so it really wasn't bad when we were sitting by the pool either.

There is a shuttle bus (Bone Island Shuttle) that runs on the island and stops at this motel, so you don't need a car to get downtown. Also, although there is no fitness center, there is a very wide sidewalk right across A1A from the hotel (on the water) that is great for early morning jogging (before it gets too hot).

I'd definitely consider staying there again (although I would definitely request an ocean view room next time).

t Stay Here

from lizmit
If you don't mind the sound of airplanes revving up on the runway, you won't mind staying here. The end of the runway was just outside of our room. The bathroom was very dirty. The exhaust fan looked like it had never been cleaned, there was mold & mildew everywhere and the floor was dirty. This hotel is not conveniently located to any of the usual activities. With all of the hotels available to Key West visitors, I would not recommend this one to anyone.

Off the beaten path

The hotel was attractive, the rooms nice but small and the pool was great.Too far from the action and parking downtown was a problem.

Best Vacation Ever!

from ctrose14
My boyfriend, myself and daughter traveled to Key West and stayed at the Ambassador Resort Inn in July of 2003. The hotel rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious. (We were given a handicapped room, even though we didn't request it.)
The staff was polite and courteous and when we returned from a day out and about Key West, our room was always clean with fresh linens and towels.
It was convenient having a small refrigerator and microwave in the room to keep drinks and fresh snacks and heat up something if we didn't feel like going out to the restaurant.
We were away from the main area of the hotel, with only a short minute or two walk to the pool. (Which was absolutely gorgeous, clean and refreshing.)
The continental breakfast was great: muffins, toast, bagels, cereal, fresh fruits and juices.
Overall, this was the best vacation I have taken in a long time and I look forward to a future visit here.

The rooms are average but comfy, but oh the pool area is awesome, I have never been so sad to leave a pool, loved it. Great Breakfast, we had a semi ocean view and it was a great view.

Nice pool, poor housekeeping, unprofessional staff

from Buffettone12070
I guess the old adage of you get what you pay for is a fair comment. $80.00 a night we paid, not too bad. The room we had (#268) was very large (they all are). However, housekeeping was not the greatest. The bathroom floor and the bathtub were filthy! The previous guest's hair was on the floor! We stayed there 4 nights, you would think the other persons hair would be cleaned up, but it was not. I had to clean the floor myself with a towel. The front desk agent was not very friendly upon check in. He did not explain anything to me. Upon check out, the front desk agent was on her cell phone the entire time talking to a friend about a boyfriend. I felt this was VERY unproffesional! The hotel is on the quiet side of island, which is nice, but you really need a car, unless you want to take a public bus. It is right next door to the airport, so you will hear planes during the day. The best part of the hotel would definitely be the pool and the Cheekie Hut bar and grill. It is a very large pool, and the food was good and fairly priced. In the future I would try a bed and breakfast (they were all sold out, this time), or pay more the Hyatt or Sheraton suites, or even Holiday Inn.

A great (quiet) place to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have been going to Key West for Fantasy Fest for the past 12 years. I stayed downtown one year, but for the rest of the years have stayed at the BW Key Ambassador. I do like to party, but downtown never quits. I love the fact that I can play as long as I want downtown and then come back to a quiet little hotel by the water. The people are friendly, the view is excellent and the hamburgers by the pool are the best. The clerks helped us find a scooter, great restaurants, and fun, touristy things to do. do hear a plane or two.....but only during daylight hours. I will be back!

From a regular vistor to The Ambassador

My family and I first visited Key West about 13 years ago choosing the hotel from the dirrctory. We were pleased with what we found and continued to visit for a number of years. On dark November days in my boring office a oicture of the pool at the Ambassador cheered me up until my Christmas break there came round. After a break of a few years as my children grew and we explored Hawaii in the winter time, my husband and I returned to the Ambassador last October. We book an ocean view room which is large and has a great view and we love the pool and the relaxed atmosphere. Yes the room is simply furnished, would benefit from a larger fridge and a microwave, the plumbing can be quaint and the planes start to take off early in the morning. But if you are not up by then you miss the wonderful sunrise from your balcony. (My husband sleeps right through till breakfast). But this is Key West and if you cannot chill out and relax perhaps this is not the place for you. A day by the large , clean beautifully landscaped pool with a reasonably priced tasty, freshly cooked meal from the Tiki Hut is bliss. Follow that with a night down town but able to return to a quiet drink by the ocean ... Well it suits me fine. We visited in April and we shall be back again in October. Each time we stay for over two weeks, not one night. For me, on my budget and with my tastes this is the place to be.

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little worried about what we would find. I was pleasantly suprised. Perhaps if I had paid $$$ for the room I would have expected much more but I made our reservations about 4 months in advance and paid less than $100 per night (including tax) We stayed 5/29-6/4/04 and I noticed the rates were much higher ( holiday ) if you made last minute reservations. I thought the property was beautiful, the room spacious and clean. We weren't around for dinner time so the fact that there is no food served after 6pm was not a problem. If we found we were hungry and not going into Old Town, we found a few restaurants down the street ( Dennys and El Meson de Pepe)-took blue Bone Island Shuttle to get there and Red back. It's true that the airport is very close but noise really wasn't a problem. The continental breakfast was just that-a continental breakfast. It gave us a start to our day. The staff was friendly and helpful-my husband wanted to bring some coconuts home and one of the men took a few off the tree for him. If we could change anything we would have liked a microwave in the room and the Cheekie Hut opened a little later for those nights when we were too pooped to go into town. Other than that, we were very happy. This is not a luxury resort where we would have paid $200-$400 a night, it was a beautiful Best Western. If you are going to party and want to be close to the Duval Street action/bar scene, then you may not want to stay here,- BUT if you are going to see the sights and enjoy Key West I would highly recommend Key Ambassador. If we were to go back to Key West, I would definitely stay there again. If you go, listen for the little bird who always seemed to be perched in one of the trees on the property-we don't know what kind of bird he was but he would be singing morning and night. I miss his sound and the beautiful Key West weather.

Top Local Tips for Key West

Don't do it Don't rent a car for the duration of your stay. Stay in, or take a taxi to "Old Town" and walk or rent a bike. Parking is non-existant. Besides, everything to see is within walking distance. There are also pedal taxis if you get tired of walking.

Not that great for shopping To many cheap shops owned my foriegners

Rainy Season .... Since the rain/thunderstorms are more frequent in the afternoon, go you snorkeling/boating activities early in the day.
