Nothing special

Not a particularly attractive property from the outside although it looked better at night when it was lit up. The room wasn't anything special - ours stank of a mouldy air conditioning unit and we had to move. The next room was better but still smelt a bit fusty. I wouldn't say it was good value for money, although it was centrally located for Duval St. The staff were friendly, but I wouldn't stay here again.

Not bad for the price

No complaints about the room and facilities. However, the "breakfast" was a bit of a joke - a bread roll on a napkin, tea/coffee in a paper cup, and an apple - all from a corner of reception, and nowhere to eat it. Luckily there was a great old-fashioned diner/drugstore right across the way which served excellent breakfasts. (Pity it wasn't open in the evenings for dinner too.)

Convenient Location

My husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in Key West. We were hardly in our room but it was very clean and a nice size. We were out and about most of the time. The location is great and close to everything. We rented Mopeds from the hotel and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The mopeds were a hoot! The continental breakfast was fine. We could just go down and get our food and sit by the pool. Then we would walk up to the Cuban Cafe across from the Atlantic Shores Motel and sip our Cuban Coffee. We tried many restaurants and enjoyed Mallory Square in the evening. We had a very memorable trip to the Keys and would stay at the Best Western Hibiscus Motel again in a heart beat. Wonderful time in the Keys!!!!

Not worth it

It's a Best Western, and no matter where it is, all of them are pretty much the same. The rooms are clean, large and air conditioned, but the outside is not that nice. However, it's in a good location. If you are looking for affordable, it's ok to stay here. If you can afford to spend a little bit more money, I recommend that you do and stay at a better hotel.

Booked here based on reviews and can confirm everything said!
Only stayed one night but it was perfect for visiting Duval St - easy walking distance but away from the crowds. A couple of blocks also from the "furthest point" 90 miles to Cuba and all that...
Free parking is a bonus on Key West - most hotels charge.
The pool area was lovely and nice for a dip after a hot day.
Rooms very spacious - fittings very 70's but teak wall lights now look hip!!!
Clean, comfortable and friendly staff - value for money.

Perfect match to a relaxing Key West stay

This place looks run-of-the-mill from the outside, but on the inside, the room was GREAT!

Very clean, huge room, with two queen-sized beds (a bit creaky), full cable TV, and a mini-fridge. Not much of a view (it's a MOTEL), but who cares when you can just walk a block right to the ocean? Plenty of space, and a nice table to write out your postcards. Air conditioner worked like a charm, without undue noise or fuss.

Bathroom: nice and big, with a full shower, toilet, and large sink with plenty of space for all your stuff. As if that's not enough, there is ANOTHER sink outside the bathroom -- sweet!

Staff: very very friendly and helpful. Happy to help you set up fun things like parasailing or jet-ski rental, or tell you where to get good fish, and which are in season. (Speaking of which: check out A&B's. Not cheap by any stretch, but VERY good fish, caught the same day...)

Very nice overall, and a great place to come back to after a day of goofing off Key West-style.

Fell Completely In Love With Key West

My husband, I and our two adolescent children (16 & 12) spent 6 wonderful days in Key West (June 9 through 15) at the Best Western Hibiscus. The staff is very friendly and full of helpful information (this was our first visit to Key West). We rented bikes and rode all over Key West visited many beautiful sites. As for the Hibiscus, although the decor is somewhat outdated, the property is kept very, very clean. The pool is especially kept clean and it is located close to many sites that one would want to visit while in Key West. We would definitely stay at the Hibiscus again in a heartbeat. As for dining, there is no dining at the Hibiscus, but across the street, Dennis' Pharmacy serves an "out of this world" breakfast reasonably cheap and everywhere you look are many restaurants of different cuisines, choices by galore.

wonderful for the price

First time in Key West was 5/04 and we could come back again and again and stay @ Best Western. The location was great, walking distance to lttle "South Beach" and also to crazy Duval st. Continental breakfast was great, and so was staff. Can't say enough about it. Oh yeah, nice pool!!

Great, basic motel

The staff was wonderful, the rooms were clean and large, and the pool was nice. Was tough to get good seats around the pool some mornings, but that happens everywhere. We selected this hotel because it was one of the few that was handicapped-accessible, and the room was perfect for my friend who uses a wheelchair. The location is good - far from the crowds, so it's quiet, but close enough that you can walk a few minutes and be a part of the action.

We got a great deal here for New Year's Eve (just over $200 per room) and it was worth every penny!

Pleasantly surprised

It's not a luxurious place, but it was an excellent value and a well-run motel. I was given one of the few rooms which opens up on Simonton St., so I was a little nervous. I considered asking for another room, but the insulation was good, and it wasn't necessary. The room was clean and roomy. There was a separate sink outside the bathroom (I LOVE that). The fridge worked fine (didn't try the microwave). The pool was clean and well-heated. The only negative was that breakfast ended at 9 AM. What's up with that in a town people go to in order to stay up late? I don't think you'll get a better location at this price. Also, their website says they don't guarantee parking. Nevertheless, the hotel was fully booked, and I never saw the parking lot full.

Top Local Tips for Key West

Key West Beaches There is a very pleasant small beach close to the Hibiscus Motel which is a great place to relax after the rigours of Duval Street. Get a picnic from the Cuban cafe at the end of Siminton Street. The cuban pork sandwich is great.

Getting Around The island is very small, so getting around is not hard to do. You can walk, bike, shuttle, cab it or even take a mo-ped around much if the island. The mo-ped and bikes are available for rental all over the island.

beach and eating go to the state park right in town. you can walk or ride a bike or drive, it has a nice beach with chairs and you can snorkel there. Also eat at ricks blue heaven ( spelling?) and conch republic very good food at both, there are so many restaurants its hard to pick one. I would not go to key west with young kids. It seems to be an adult destination with lots of different life styles, drinking, ect.
