Wonderful Experience
from A TripAdvisor MemberVery Secluded
from A TripAdvisor MemberGreat deal for the money--We loved it!
from A TripAdvisor MemberSome people are never happy
from A TripAdvisor MemberIf you walk out of the grounds there is a bus stop that allows you to buy a ticket to travel the island getting on and off as many times as you like.
For the person who says the pool was tiny, were you expecting an olympic sized pool?
Could not of asked for more
Had a great time!
from A TripAdvisor MemberJean married us at sunset...she's such a sweet lady. Dave took care of everything, my flowers were exactly what I ask for, every one complements the beautiful bougainvilleas in out wedding pictures...the photographer did a beautiful job. If you want a stress-free wedding, this is the way to go, but if you want all the "fuss" don't get married here. When we first arrived, we went to the tiki bar and the bartender told us some great places to eat and even gave us coupons. We took his advice and the food was wonderful! After visting Duval street at night, we were glad that Banana Bay was away from the "night life" and secluded. Yet it was close enough that a taxi could have us there in 5 minutes. Our room was clean and we liked the guest robes that were available for us to use. Our sunset cruise was beautiful and fun. I hope to return one year for our anniversary.
more of a motel on a major road
from A TripAdvisor MemberI should have listened more to the "Are you kidding me", review on TripAdvisor, as I agree totally with them, having just returned from the place. March 10-13 2004 Ditto, don't be fooled by the website. Guy who checked me in couldn't care less that we had been allocated rooms overlooking the car park rather than overlooking the pool as we'd requested. Note, only about 8 rooms actually overlook the pool area, all the others overlook the car park - Everything about the place was stuck in the 70's - it needs major re-vamp.
Location was bad- 2 miles on the main road into Key West - courtesy bus (as stated on website -small fee) is $7 for the whole day, but it's really not a convenient way to travel, so to get anywhere we had to walk or get a $12 cab into the centre. If you multiply the number of cabs we took, we could have afforded a much nicer hotel.
Pool was freezing and tiny. The wedding gazeebo looked miserable, I really wonuldn't recommend anyone to get married there, without going to the place to check it out first, it would be such a let down just to turn up there for a wedding.
It was far from the tropical hideaway it makes out to be, but more of a motel on a main road with a pool. I was really disappointed. We would have gone somewhere else, but we had a 7 day cancellation charge we would have had to pay. Won't be back...
Peaceful Tropical Setting!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe got in late Sunday evening around 8pm. At first I was a little disappointed when I seen the small office in front for check-in. After we went around the back we were pleasantly surprised to see beautiful flowers and tropical palm trees, all with uplighting! We also liked our King sized bed with mesh canopy!! Very romantic. Also was one of the few places in Key West that had a small frig. in the room. We stocked ours with snacks & drinks.
The Bannan Bay resort is located on the water so you have a small beach with hammocks, very secluded and private. We stayed on the second floor and had a partial view of bay. They also have a cattermaran that gives evening sunset cruises! We did that our last day. Check there web site because they offer special packages with that.
The location is about 1 mile from downtown. We were glad we booked here, because we could get a way from all the noise and activity of downtown when we wanted too. You can leave your car here and buy a ticket from front office for the shuttle to downtown. Only 7.00 a day to go back and forth until 11pm at night. Take the red bus back for a direct route from downtown. They drop you off across the street at Fairfield Inn. Going to downtown, you just stand in front of Bannana Bay and they pick you up. It only takes 5 minutes to get to down town.
Also next door a place rented jet ski's or waverunners and bikes. We didn't get a chance to do that. Overall for a great place at a good price I think this is it. We looked at other very expensive options for downtown and are glad we picked this one instead.
On our last night there, we met a nice couple from England, they went on the sunset cruise with us. Oh, I forgot my charger for my cell phone. Did not notice until we had driven to Orlando! At our room there, I called and they said no problem, what room were you in and I told them. They said it happens all the time. They said they would mail it to my address at home. We flew home that evening March 5,2004 and by the following Tuesday it had arrived in my mail box!! Very nice of them! Normally people only post info if they had a bad experience, but I thought I should post this to let people know we had a good one! Also they had a computer in there lobby that you can use for free to get onto the internet to check your e-mail or whatever! No charge!! PS: If you go to Key West our highlight of the trip was the Sea Plane Tours! Absolutely worth the money 180.00 per person. An experience of a lifetime. Hope this info helps. Take care and have fun!!
Spend your money somewhere else
from A TripAdvisor MemberNice Stay, But Not A Resort!
from Mom542The breakfast was okay and the Tiki Bar drinks were great, but a little pricey! Although the bartender gave us our first drink on the house, which I thought was very generous! The bed, although nice looking was a tad bit stiff. But all in all, it was a nice, quiet relaxing stay. Just not a "Resort". Tip: Don't bother renting a car unless you want to go off the island! The Banana Bay resort is right on the Trolley line. You can by a three day pass and ride all you want at a reasonable price!
And the trolleys run well into the evening!
bring your own Towels
from wondermslocation, not walkable to downtown- far.
Top Local Tips for Key West
Transportation by scooter or bicycle with free delivery! Reserve in advance! The easiest way to get around is by renting a bicycle or a scooter. Reserving them directly through the rental company is wiise; & it's easier for you & for the delivery company! There's lots of free parking marked "scooter" or "bike" parking, & you'll enjoy the small island convenience on a bike or a scooter. Helmets are not required, but are recommended.
Great Bars Be sure to visit The Green Parrot, Hogs Breath Saloon & Sloppy Joes
Rental cars in Key West: To rent or not to rent... That is the question. Do you really need one? Not necessarily. We rented a convertible, which was fun if you want to have that experience at least once. I live in the colder notheast, so this was something I always wanted to do anyway. But, the island is small & there is an abundance of moped/scooter rentals (totally cool & fun AND the truest way to experience Key West!). Also, many taxi services if you need to go far. Keep in mind that once you hit Old Town, everything is within walking distance. Parking a car is a bit of an issue - There are very few free parking spots on the street & parking garages can get expensive. Approx $15-$20 a day. They also fill up fast. We stayed at a place somewhat removed from the busy part of town, so a rental car was (sort of) needed, but a taxi could have done the job, too. If you want to explore other keys, you'll need a car (naturally). But if you're going to stick close to Old Town and the main-hub-bub of the island, you can get by just fine without a rental car.
