Good hotel for a meeting
from ysuindyI had a corner room with a king bed. Room was large with a couch. As others have noted the large TV in front of the big picture window is somewhat a turnoff. In the corner room the TV is to the side of the bed, somewhat harder to watch from bed. The rooms were dark. I had to turn all the lights on and it still seemed dark. The shower area in the bathroom had no lights. Only four lights above the mirror to light the room. I like bright bathrooms, so this was a turnoff. Did hear some noise in the hallway at night. Had a hard time cooling off the room at night.
On the plus side, the bed and pillows were comfortable. Plenty of extra pillows and some very heavy comforters. The desk was large, ample electrical outlets and dataport for my laptop. Maid service was prompt. Staff I dealt with was friendly.
Parking is on the top floors of the adjacent garage. The hotel charges $14 per night and you get in and out privileges. If you simply pay with the ticket the maximum daily charge is $10 per night. If you are not going to leave or are only staying one night, pay the $10.
I did not feel unsafe in the hotel area, although we were in a large group both nights when we went out.
Luxurios room and nice people

from Elle481Our flight arrangements changes so we were scheduled to be in Jacksonville on Thrusday night. Called from the plane before we took off to see if they had a room. We were quoted their best rate of $195 and I just about dropped the phone. I asked if they could do any better and was told, "Why, that is our BEST and lowest rate for that day!" I then went through my spiel asking for AAA, AARP, COSTCO, SAM, and Entertainment rate - I never take the rate that I am given first off at any hotel I have been to. Well, surprise!!! The Entertainment rate was $89 for the night!!! We took it because we really needed a place to stay and were not ready to run around Jacksonville finding a better rate at 11:30 PM when we arrived.
Grabbed an airport shuttle when we arrived for around $22 for the two of us. This price was less than the $35 quoted for a cab. Luckly we only had one other couple with us in the van so we didn't do the milk run.
This was our first trip to Jacksonville and we really did not know what to expect as far as a downtown area. Well, it was not impressive at all. Our hotel had the entrance off the side. We were a block from Jackson Landing (a place with a few non impressive shops and some bars.) A civic center was directly across the street from us. We checked in and I gave them an upgrade certificate that I had from the Omni program. No luck for an upgrade till the morning. Our room was a standard room, clean, decorated fine (think Marriott). We had a coffee machine in our room. We didn't realize until the next morning (when we didn't get a paper) that in our room key package there were door hangers for morning delivery of coffee, tea, or juice, and the paper, which would have been nice to use. Too bad no one told us, and shame on us for not checking the key package when we got to our room. It was after midnight and we were just happy to arrive. The lobby bar (not impressive) was closed, so we headed across the street to Jacksonville Landing for a nightcap. That's when I realized that this was really not the hotel I should have reserved. Not a great place to walk around at night - bums, and pan handlers were tucked in several corners. I did not feel comfortable or safe at all!!!!
The next morning my husband went down to use our upgrade, which expired in a week, and was told that we would be given "their BEST room!!" Well, it was a corner room, just a smidge bigger than the last, but with two windows instead of one, and a view of the river, though the TV was planted in front of the window and blocked the view. I guess that's what Omini calls an upgrade.
Next evening we went down around 6pm for the advertised (in the local paper) Happy Hour at the bar before we headed out for dinner. Service was fine, but I guess Happy Hour means different things at different places. We expected some apps. and maybe two for one (or reduced) drinks. There weren't any even though the waitress did greet us with a comment on something to do with Happy Hour. I guess we must have missed something somewhere along the line.
Later on that evening we came back to our room and it had not been turned down. We really would have loved new towels for the next morning and it was too late to call when we got in. My husband asked at the desk the next morning and was told that turn down was only for Omni point members. When he came back and told me, I mentioned that we were Select Members and that's why we had the half price weekend and the upgrade!! I give up!!
(No turn down the next night either!)
Anyway, the hotel is fine, clean and the desk, etc, were the same, just nothing special. There was a Hyatt a few blocks away that looked a little more lively, a bit safer and better appointed and I think next time we might just give them a try.

from A TripAdvisor MemberGreat location in downtown Jville
from BizTravelerthe renovation is nice
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe did not go to the restaurant or the public areas of the hotel, so I do not know anything about that. We just checked in around eight at night and left first thing in the morning. The lobby is elegant, and the hotel desk clerk we checked in with was very pleasant. Our experience was definitely lovely, especially considering we only bid $45 for the room (and paid only $59 total after service fee and taxes).
scary
from A TripAdvisor MemberSuprised By The Poor Reviews
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe made it to town 3 hours early and phoned the Omni to see f we could check in early. The girl at the desk was very accomodating allowing us to check in early and gave us a choice in which room we would like.
The only issues we encounterd were that housekeeping was very slow in getting our extra pillows and room service forgot our toast for breakfast.
The room was very clean and a good size. Our stay was wonderful and I am very surprised at the past reviews I have read.
I recommend it highly as well as a water taxi ride across the river to Ruths Chris.
Made our wedding day so easy
from worthwhilegirlIt was above & beyond what we paid for at $79.00 per night.
okay, but not great
from A TripAdvisor MemberTop Local Tips for Jacksonville
Its only a party city a few times a year The landing is an under occupied mall but cool to relax eat and shop on the river. Its mostly quite except during GA FL weekend, holidays, game days etc.. in other words, its not like the party spring break type headquaters. Its more of a business class. If you want fun and tons of night life, head out to the beaches. Its pretty busy any night of the week... But remember, beach hotels will be worn, sandy and salty, as the air itself can run them down... so expect a great view a great meal and fun action at the beach, but not a perfect room. When downtown, dont expect a party, and always use the buddy system.
