Very Good--but not flawlessfrom chap4
On the downside. We were somewhat surprised at all the comments about the friendly staff. It's not that they were unfriendly, but we didn't experience anything unusual--no smiles, no hellos, etc as we have received in some hotels. Also, it appeared that the lovely pool was not cleaned while we were there. It was noticeably dirtier (on the bottom) by our third day and the hot tub wasn't working.
4 star room w/ 1/2 star stafffrom djdr2b
majority of the service staff are inexperienced and generally under-educated. While friendly, they seemed to lack fundamental understanding of how to maintain professional, attentive service oriented relationships with the guest. For example, we trained our dinner server how to use her wine opener. I would have to chase down my poolside server to come back to me and had to beg her to keep a tab open for the day (she wanted to close out each individual order).
We would have to ask for basic amenities like silverware, water refills, another drink, etc, etc, etc. The housekeeping staff was outright rude. On sat Dec 29th, our room was not cleaned while we were
out from late morning till mid afternoon (when the privacy sign was not on the door), and was visibly angry when we wanted the room cleaned that evening. This could have been an honest oversight, but on
sun Dec 30th it was repeated. We were out of the room from 9:30 am till nearly 3 pm and again the room was not cleaned. At 3 we had to start getting ready for a black tie wedding. At 5, as we were getting ready to leave, housekeeping called and asked if we were going to have
the room cleaned. I said yes and the person on the phone snapped that we should take the privacy sign out of the door. I had to remind her that just like the day before, the room was available most of the morning and afternoon. I was put on the defensive for being in the room when they finally decided to get around to it late in the day (how dare I, after all I am nothing more than the guest).
This is a gorgeous but poorly managed hotel with staffing either not suited for higher end service work or improperly/inadequately trained for that role (the valets being the single notable exception). Incredibly disappointing! The icing on the cake is the fact that a staff member may have stolen my credit/debit card information. It was used multiple times at the hotel, and at 2 major high end retailers during this vacation. Most of the people who handled the card were Crowne Plaza staff. And the only people who walked away from me with the card were Crowne Plaza staff. I arrived home to find fraudulent charges on my debit card. The brand Crowne Plaza will have to be my only option before choosing it again.
A Rising 4 Star Propertyfrom TrippinCowboy
Very friendly check-in process, bellman was excellent and took our mountain of luggages up without a hitch. (we've been shopping lots prior to arrival).
Excellent and modern, everything is new & spotlessly clean. Large & comfy beds with crisp white duvets and plenty of fluffy pillows. Can rival Starwood's Sweet Sleepers. Kitchenette with plenty of cabinet space and stainless steel appliances including empty fridge for all our liquor. Big Balcony with side water view. Not bad at all.
Lavatory and Standing Shower are enclosed while the sink/vanity is next to the beds outside the bathroom. Somewhat odd placement but everything works great. Fluffy towels and a solid 7.5 on the shower pressure.
Beautiful Pool, just like the rest of the property.
Free wired internet in-room. Excellent speed.
A bit steep but good service, it's definitely a cash grab as the large lot is outdoor immediately adjacent to the property, self-parking would be completely feasible in the first place. We can see our car from the room's balcony.
The front desk clerk was not very friendly and just printed the replacement invoice without saying anything after they slipped the wrong one from another guest into our room in the morning. Was on the phone the whole time and not even a goodbye. Only thing that prevented me from giving this property a 5 rating.
Excellent property, the location is somewhat off but everything else makes up for it, definitely exceeds the Crowne Plaza brand's standards.
Excellent hotelfrom Andrew1964
I found the whole Miami, Ft lauderdale area quite boring however. Not much to see other than the beach.
A bit isolated but excellentfrom SOOOZ
Location- a bit isolated. The hotel is situated on the very edge of Hollywood , on a rather unlovely corner next to a petrol station and the Hallandale Beach Boulevard Bridge . The surrounding area is not particularly attractive- just high rise condos and dual carriageways.
Dining options and facilities outside the hotel are limited without transport. There is a Walmart within walking distance across Hallandale Bridge and a few restaurants- Padrinos, Nandos and some burger -type places. Going north along South Ocean Road are a couple of overpriced restaurants opposite the enormous Westin Hotel which also houses some very expensive eateries. There is a 24 hour pizza place close to the hotel too .
Other dining possibilities include Josephs on the Water - about 10 minutes walk south along South Ocean road but hidden away in a condo building ,as are a couple of other restaurants like Chef Anthony (~ 5 mins in La Mar condo ) which offers a good value breakfast.
The Hollywood broadwalk is a bit too far to walk but saw a new Thursday to Sunday trolley bus service advertised which stops at the Crowne Plaza and should improve access to the facilities there .
A car solves most of the above but valet parking is compulsory and costs $17 dollars per day ( plus tips every time you move the vehicle) .
The fairly nice beach is across a busy road, but the hotel is right on the lovely intracoastal ( which we preferred to the beach) . All rooms have at least partial views of water from large balconies.
Our room was tastefully furnished, spacious, exceptionally comfortable and spotlessly clean with a nice balcony and partial intracoastal views. Beds and pillows were top quality and the most comfortable I can remember. Nice touches included a microwave, fridge, kitchenette (without equipment) bathrobes, good toiletries and a sleep package.
The infinity pool on the intracoastal was spectacular and the best rooms overlook this .
All staff we encountered were well trained, pleasant, efficient and helpful.
This hotel is brand new, very nice and phenomenal value at the promotional rate of $99 on offer until April 2008 through :
For us the positives far outweighed the negatives.
We would stay here again.
A wonderful stay.from voidmalign
s not to like ?from fjpanda
Everything is very new and very nice. We liked everything about our junior suite. Here are some things you might want to know.
The large vanity sink is in the room, just outside of the bathroom (with toilet and large-walk in shower).
Each of the double beds (with wonderful mattresses) had 7 pillows and bolsters of various types and sizes. Something for everyone. We piled the extra pillows from two beds on the chase lounge.
The amenities included robes, a "sleep' CD, an eye mask,
ear plugs and the usual toiletries.
Our 8th floor room had a microwave, a small refrigerator,
coffee making supplies, a flat-screen HDTV, iron, ironing board
and an in-room safe.
We had room service hot sandwiches, very expensive, but room service always is. They were very, very good (above average)
very nicely served by a very professional waiter. They arrived on a rolling table (cart) set with a tablecloth and cloth napkins
(rather than on a tray). We enjoyed eating at the table.
We have 2 negative comments. First, the cost of valet parking
seems excessive, $17, I believe. I believe $10 would be a fair price. If I recall, self-parking was not an option.
Second, the hotel website had extremely misleading directions from the airport. Following the web-site directions (as of October) we drove away from the hotel rather than towards the hotel. Luckily we knew the area just well enough to realize something was wrong and managed to redirect ourselves. When we did check-in, we were very impressed with the front desk reaction which was to make a copy of our website print out we were clutching, in order to address the problem as soon as possible. Be sure to use MapQuest/Google Maps in order to create your own map before you leave home.
Nice hotelfrom Mifm
Be aware that there is NO self-parking. So, if you don't like giving your car keys to strangers, you will have no choice but to do so because no matter how much you ask to park the car on your own, they don't let you. (Parking is $17 per day + tips)
We just had a small inconvenience the second day of our stay. We had to move to another room because there was a leak that they thought was
originating from our room. We were moved to an exact same room on a higer floor with the same view and we were offered a "free Continental
Breakfast" for next day.
I regret using that free breakfast certificate. We got to the restaurant and they had a very nice "full buffet" breakfast. However, the hostess said that our certificates, which he called "coupons” said "continental breakfast", so we had only one choice from the menu (croissant, bagel or fruit) plus coffee and juice.
We decided to get our continental breakfast anyways. But, we were treated really bad by the waitress as soon as she realized we had those "free breakfast coupons". She kind of ignored us and took for ever to bring the croissants, to the point we were about to walk away. She was very unfriendly and rude all the time and even more when she brought the invoice I had to sign. I would have preferred not
to get that breakfast and avoid such an aggravation. It was not worth it. After all, I would have gotten something much better in McDonalds for less than the tip I had to give her. It kind of ruined our morning.
But other than that, as it has been mentioned in other reviews, the property is new and everything feels very nice and sparking clean. And
with the exception of the waitress, the staff people were wonderful.

Top Local Tips for Hollywood
Cross the Drawbridge to two great restaurants Right across the drawbridge two restaurants are a short walk - one serves Cuban fare, the other, Italian. We had fun evenings at both and the food was delicious..
Insider tip about Hollywood Beach As a former Hollywood beach resident, this area is a mix bag. As far as beach is concerned, its beautiful and I would say, I prefer it to Fort Lauderdale. Hollywood has won a few blue beach?? award. However, this area is still "up and coming". New hotels and new attractions and restaurants are changing the old face of Hollywood Beach. There are still some "not so good" beach bars and restaurants.. Friends have said, it has that Venice Beach feel circa 1970-80's. However, if you want a reasonably price beach vacation and want to avoid the party crowds of Fort Lauderdale and the cool but pretentiousness crowd of Miami, Hollywood is a good choice. I recommend Taverna Opa for great Greek food and ambiance. You are encouraged to dance on tables, have too much wine and pretend you are vacationing in a Greek isle! Love it!
If you love Cuban food... There is a great Cuban restaurant near the Crowne Plaza...Padrino's. Outstanding and reasonably priced Cuban cusine.
