An apology

from A TripAdvisor Member
I want to apoligize for all you people who are reviewing this great hotel. Because a few spring breakers and my daughter getting ill on me I gave this hotel a bad review. It is not the owners fault (Mick) if spring breakers book their reservations on line so he was not prepared when they all came to check in. This is a unique hotel with beautiful artwork throughout the property as well as in the rooms. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Hopefully we can come stay again

Past review deceiving

Tropi Rock resort is a great vacation spot. Mick does a great job of making his customers feel at home and always has a smile and a wave for you when you leave or return from the hotel. My girlfriend and I just returned (March 12th-19th) and we didn't really know what to expect but Mick kept great communication lines open (I had LOTS of questions) and made us really comfortable with our choice. The hotel had a great mix of people in it and while there were spring breakers there we did not find them to be disruptive or obnoxiously loud at any time. And we certainly had no problem lounging at the pool. I can say for a fact that there was myself, my girlfriend, another older couple and a couple families who frequented the pool and at no time did we feel uncomfortable. Our room was spectacular, and the maid service was incredible. They washed our dishes for us which really shocked us! We would recommend this resort for anyone wishing to find a place unlike any hotel or resort. The past review is very deceiving in the picture that it paints of the resort.

FOR A LOCAL, WAS DISAPPOINTED

from A TripAdvisor Member
Pictures on the website were an oversell. It's a great hotel if your from a small town visiting but not for locals who want to get away for a few days. There was to much construction going on which made it noisy all day. At night the kids partied to much. (Spring Break) Overall it was an ok hotel but it needs some work. My family won't be coming back.

A Great Vacation Spot!!!

I spent the week with my girlfriend here over springbreak. The owner, Mick, was great to us. This man could make you feel comfortable and at home in a dark cave, but he has a tropical resort to offer you instead. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Fort Lauderdale, and I hope to make it back soon myself.

Great place!

We liked the pictures on their website, but didn't know if the website was a better sell than what the resort really was. However, my husband and I really enjoyed our stay there and would definitely come back. A new owner, Mick, was really great and fun to talk to. The grounds are beautiful and the artwork really colorful. Our room was fun and comfortable. I liked the rooftop deck and the resort is located only 2 blocks from the beach. All of our basic needs were fufilled for an extended stay. TropiRock is not a luxury hotel, but more like a guest house/hotel. It would also be a great place to stay for groups of family and friends. I think TropiRock will be an outstanding place once the new owners have had longer to further cultivate their personality into the place. Overall, it was everything we wanted and more in a Florida vacation. We also liked eating at the Eurobread French Bakery on Sunrise, and at Pollo Tropical on Highway 1. If you're renting a car, make sure to upgrade to a convertible to make the experience complete! Or, go native and use your AC like a real Floridian.

Tropical exotic oasis

From the moment I walked into the office at the Tropi Rock, and was greeted by new owner, Mick, I knew this was the right place to stay. Our family booked almost the whole resort due to my cousins wedding to take place in Ft. Lauderdale. lThe best part of my stay was the hospitality. Mick, and morning manager, were quite accomidating, and as often as I was in the office to ask for something, They never made me feel I was a bother. They knew my name every time I walked in. By the end of our 5 days, we would go in just to chat. The other thing that made this place great was the facility itself. They have a sun deck on the roof that is to die for. My cousind and I would party up there and and we would have such a blast. The pool deck is beautiful. There is a botanical garden surrounding it, so it does create alot of shade, however the lounge chairs were stragically placed in the sun. If you go alone with your family, it is most relaxing. If you go with a group of people, it is an awesome party. Everything you need is in walking distance, as well as the beach. If, after you read this review, you still choose another resort, shame on you. You will have noone to blame but yourself. I am still corresponding with Mick via e-mail. I dont particularly like Ft. Lauderdale as much as other places I have visited on the west coast of Florida, but we are still going back in October if only for the resort. Thanks again Mick.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I have stayed in many hotels, ranging from the major chains to the little "mom and pop shops", but not many of those stays amounted to the way I rung in 2003 at the Tropi-Rock. Originally my girlfriend and I were looking to get away for a few days of relaxation at a price point that met our budget. Our search found the Tropi-Rock. Since we were unfamiliar with the Ft. Lauderdale area due to this being our first trip we were EXTREMELY suspect on the price as compared to the other resorts in the area and when reading up on the resort adjectives such as: "unique" and "exotic" made me a little hesitant. Upon that I had an long conversation with the Owner/Operator Mick Ball about what his resort offered and the proximity of it to the beach, restaurants, etc. Realizing the unparalleled pride that Mick has in his establishment set me at ease. Upon our arrival we were greeted with hospitality and excitement from the entire staff. We walked around the grounds and to our surprise we were actually in the most beautiful of all the resorts in the area. Approximately 2 blocks from the beach and a 10 minute walk to the restaurants we knew every word that we heard and read about this "unique" and "exotic" resort was only a part of the reason why we will continue to stay here on every trip to the area. It was the overall atmosphere and pride that the Tropi-Rock offers, everything from Mick calling our room to make sure that we were settled in on arrival, to John setting us up with a shuttle to the airport on the day we left.THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUYS AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AGAIN.Jeremy

You should give this place a try. The Ritz its not, but no place is on A1A. The rooms are quiet, clean and well maintained. The owner, Mic, is pleasant and welcoming. And I have felt satisfied when leaving that I got what I paid for.

Ft Lauderdale is a driving town, little in the way of foot traffic. Staying here and you are not more than ten minutes from the restaurants on Las Olas and an easy drive from any car rental agency.
Besides, the beach is a two minute walk.
What else do you do in Lauderdale but go to the beach?

Great start to our trip

We read the other reviews and found that most people were impressed - and that was certainly our opinion. After a long flight from London we needed somewhere for a night in Ft Lauderdale before heading on for a week in the Everglades. The Tropi Rock was just what we needed - very relaxing, a great welcome from the owner and lots of useful advice about places to eat etc. If we are ever lucky enough to go back to Ft Lauderdale we would not stay anywhere else. It's also very convenient for the fascinating Bonnet House, and an easy drive to the Stranrahan House - both recommended for a taste of Florida as it was.

Want to be Impressed? Then get to the Tropi Rock, where EVERY room is different, every step & turn you make is another stunning (Handcrafted) object of beauty to behold ! The rich colorful stone tiles, carefully inlayed to form one of the most inviting pools in Fort Lauderdale,Walls full of (Authentic) Memorabilia,A Roof-Top Sundeck to enjoy a private moment(s) of thought.T his place was Built & Designed by An Artist Himself !! He knew what People wanted. The EXTRAORDINARY, a Happy place, an EYE Trip, The "YOU Belong" Here, This is the PLACE "to be",An "I will Return for SURE" Motel, And it couldn't be so without the Ownerwho I now for the rest of My Life, consider a personal friend..(by the way, Mick, personally makes Fresh coffee any time of day!!)---on the house-- Yes 6 Stars & as I've said to many others, What? Fort Lauderdale has other Motels? Maybe--BUT--None like the Tropi Rock Resort...Take your ca!

Top Local Tips for Fort Lauderdale

Water Bus Take the Water Bus! It's only $11pp (less for children) for an all day pass...it'll take you up and down the river to several spots, such as downtown and shopping areas. Along the way there is a narrative about the beautiful homes along the river.

Ft Lauderdale restaurants - beward of your bill.... Most places add an 18% gratuity and some a surcharge for live entertainment (even though it is awful (Cafe del Mar, for ex). Read those receipts!

Ft. Lauderdale Beach Only Rent a car if you can. The taxis and private cars will rob you blind if you let them. The only thing we saw in Ft. Lauderdale was the beach and cruise industry. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of entertainment.
