Historical Traveller Reviews of The Pillars at New River Sound Hotel

Absolutely loved the Pillars!

from toni10
Couldn't think how this place could be improved! I stayed here with my boyfriend for 3 nights (we're both in our early 20s) at the end of a 2 week stay in Florida - would highly recommend to any couple as a wonderfully romantic place to stay. The location is gorgeous - right on the waterway with beautiful views and just 5 mins drive from Las Olas Boulevard (the main street of shops and restaurants). The attention to detail is excellent... One of the best places we have stayed.

Perfect, luxury get away that is close to everything!

from ChelseaNYC
I had searched high and low for a high-end hotel and found that Ft. Lauderdale did not have much to offer in this category until I found this hotel. The room was wonderful with high thread count linens and nice towels. The service was excellent and we even ordered room service to be delivered dockside. To our surprise they set the table with a beautiful table cloth and napkins, nice dishes and silverware. We ordered a bottle of wine and felt as though we were in a 5 star restaurant as we watched the sun set over the river. The beach is just a short stoll away and offers beautiful scenery and clear ocean water. I have been to several other hotels in the area -- none can compare.

Absolutely Fabulous!

We stayed here for a week and would love to go back again. Service was superb, food was great and nothing beats breakfast at the dockside. Rooms were lovely - and when the air conditioning broke in our room we were moved to an upgrage and given 15% reduction for the remaining 5 nights. It is so peaceful and really makes a change from large corporate type hotels. The water taxi stop on the property is also a lovely way to travel in the evenings (do make sure that you wave at the taxis in the evening for them to stop they didn't see us one night even with the beacon light on!). Highly recommended and so glad we found it through this site.

Cozy and Elegant

from Marrcham
We loved this hotel, or little inn as we like to think of it! It was quiet, clean, the rooms were very cozy and the afternoons by the pool were great. The temperature of the pool was just right! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We asked for a restaurant recommendation our first night and were directed to one that was close, very tasty and very affordable. You're very close to the beach which can be very windy and then you go back to this cozy little place and it is peaceful, calm and lots of sun and shade available. This was the first time in a small inn like this and I look for more places like it in the future and try to avoid the big unfriendly hotels if I can.

An Oasis of tranquility

from SubaruDriver
Stayed for a couple of nights, wanted to move in!

The location - right on the intracoastal is majestic - and what with the river taxi having a stop here was magical.

The rooms are big enough, the toiletries are very good quality - the mini bar is not too expensive. The beds are very comfortable.

The pool and sun bathing area are great - nice to be in a pool that is 9 feet deep instead of the customary 5' 6"... Also a lovely touch is the complimentary cool drinks served in the afternoon and the library where you can get books to read or videos to watch in your room.

The staff made you feel especially welcome

5 minutes walk to the beach and the night life of te A1A stretch, 5 minutes in the car to the boutiques of Las Olas Blvd you couldn't really ask for more. You wouldn't think you were in the middle of it when you walk through the front door and enter an enclosed oasis of peace.

Will definitely stay again, and only didn't mark it as a 5 star as I don't think any place could ever be 5 stars. Otherwise, go there, be spoiled, enjoy yourself and feel like a king.

Superior Service !!!

After reading the many great reviews of The Pillars, we decided to give it a try. We stayed in a Poolside King on the first level, just steps away from the pool. The room was very nice, the grounds were beautiful and the service was spectacular. From the time they give you the tour of the property at check in, to the dreadful day that you have to go home, one thing is very apparent, the Pillar's is all about great service. The hotel sits right on the intracoastal and the beach is just 2 blocks away. The pool is surrounded with padded lounge chairs, fresh lemonade and plenty of plush towels. A water Taxi is availbale for $ 5.00 per day for travel to great spots for dinner, shopping or just celebrating. A wine tasting is available in the hotel lobby each evening. If your celebrating a special occasion, let the staff assist you. I arranged for flowers and wine to be in the room upon checkin, and they both exceeded are expectations. When myself and my partner needed some information regarding gay establishments, Caroline spent 30 minutes on the internet printing out all of our possibilities. We can't wait to go back and let Caroline, Tiffany and the staff spoil us.

Slight change of mind about the Pillars

from Lulusmum
New Year 2005 was our second visit to the Pillars and, although still a great little hideaway, this year there was a lot of pre-school children, and, with the pool area and the hotel being so small, it certainly made a difference to the tranquility factor. Would I visit again? I'm sure that I would but maybe not in school holiday time.

A Quiet Oasis

from donnaleemarie
My husband and I just returned from a short stay in busy Fort Lauderdale (it was Spring Break). We stayed in a king, poolside deluxe room on the second floor and it was wonderful. The room was spacious and spotless!
This "inn" has everything going for it: excellent location on the inter-coastal yet just a short walk to the beach; water-taxi stops right at the inn so it is easy to get to Los Olas Blvd, shops and restaurants; the pool and gardens offer peace and quiet, yet all the action is just a block away. This place truly is a beautiful & quiet oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale. If you want to be near it all yet feel that you are in your own peaceful world this is the place for you. We will be back!

Exquisite boutique hotel with top-notch service

from THill
This delightful hotel has a wonderful location on the water, beautiful rooms, delightful amenities, a warm and luxurious feeling to it, but most of all, the service is 5-star quality.

My best friend and I spent the night there following a cruise, in which we disembarked early. The Pillars agreed in advance to stow our bags for us, and after showing us around, they helped us catch the water taxi. We returned that night to officially check in and found our bags were already delivered to our room.

Three times within a 10-minute period of time that night I found myself calling the front desk to change the taxi pickup time in the morning due to flight rescheduling. Not once was there any sign of irritation, but only complete helpfulness. I loved that! And the taxi was ready in the morning when we were too.

Gracious, elegant, lovely. Quite affordable for 5-star service and surroundings in very pricey Fort Lauderdale. I cannot wait to return, this time with my husband, for a romantic escape.

I highly, highly recommended this 5-star worthy hotel.

classy, elegant, beautiful hotel

We stayed at the Pillars 2/25-3/3/05. We had researched the area for about 9 mths and found this to be the best hotel in Ft Lauderdale if you like small luxury hotels with personalized service, not a large scale with a concrete room. It was beyond what we thought it would be! Bathrobes, Lindt chocolates @ turndown svc, cleanest rooms and plush towels, morning paper, breakfast for a 10-15$ fee served at your outside table or on the intercoastal. Wine and beer and appetizers between 5-7, concierge svc. Iced tea by the pool. The lounge chairs were padded with fitted towels, plus another towel for drying off. Wonderful service, plus a great view. Relaxing and the water taxi stops at the hotel. The water bus is slow so allow enough time to get to Las Olas/ riverfront or North to Shooters, Charleys Crab. There is a bus svc for $1., stops at the Galleria Mall (bus 40) or all the way to Pompano (bus 11). Taxis are cheap, too. We ate at Casablanca Cafe, Mangos (lunch excellent), Timpano, River House, Big City Tavern, Charleys Crab. All excellent! Great bars on the beach 2/1. Wonderful stay and we loved Ft Lauderdale and the Pillars.
