Staff must have been severely stressed out

The Riverside Hotel in FLL is a very nice hotel but the staff must have been severely stressed out the weekend I stayed last November because I did not get the feeling of welcome that I usually get from other hotels. I travel regularly to Ft Lauderdale and would like to continue staying at the Riverside but probably will look elsewhere if I am made to feel more welcome. Thank you for the opportunity to share these thoughts.

While the location is very good, we did not have a good time in this hotel on our honeymoon. We tried to draw a bath, and the water looked like urine. No lie. When we complained about it, the maintenance guy said "it always looks like this".

It might be that the new tower is nice, but they put us in the old part, which is falling apart and our first room was filthy when we got there. I had to request an upgrade and that room was merely passable. Oh, and the mirrored-ceiling above the bed was fairly creepy also.

I can only say stay away!

I have stayed here a dozen times at least. The hotel is convenient to shops and nightlife on Las Olas. Staff is friendly. Hotel is not perfect, but has just undergone a renovation to the old wing. The tower rooms are very nice, I have yet to stay in the renovated area. The pool is great along the river with the many yachts cruising by. Does not have hi speed internet access in tower rooms, I don't know if they put it in renovated area. Lots of charm and warmth. 5 minutes form FLL airport and I-95. 2 miles from beaches straight down Las Olas.

after entering the hotel i was greeted by a young bellhop who helped me with my bags and got me checked in. he was very nice and helpful. actually, he was the only one who helpful and nice throughout my stay. the rest of the staff was horrible and rude. the front desk staff was by far the worst. the area is nice and the hotel is nice, but the staff is incapable of doing their jobs. if the bell guy steve did not go above and beyond to help me, i would have left the first day i arrived.

I feel the last poster must have gotten a "lemon" of a room, because that's definitely not the norm.

While I agree that the traditional or older side of the hotel is certainly not as modern or nice as the new executive tower, the hotel itself is clean and the executive tower rooms are beautiful!! I ought to know, I got married there last May and had 40 rooms blocked for my guests over the weekend and everyone LOVED the hotel.

YOU SIMPLY CAN'T BEAT THE LOCATION!

These other reviews just do not seem accurate at all. I spoke to other guests while I stayed at the Riverside and they were all very disappointed. It was incredibly dirty in the halls and the room. The bed was like 100 years old and we could not sleep. I think the bed might have also had fleas as my husband and I were both extremely itchy and had bug bites after staying here. Seriously don't stay here- there are plenty of other good hotels in the area.

i was looking for a get away vacation where i can relax, be near shops, beaches and restaurants an d this was the perfect location. additionally, we enjoyed great service and the hotel room was outstanding.. the only thing that I would like to see improved is the shower pressure. i would defenitely return to this hotel. the only drawback is that there is only one riverside hotel. if you are ever near or in florida please stop by.

Thanks to Steve the bellhop for being such a good source of info. In just 24 hours I went scuba diving, got drunk on the strip, shopping on Las Olas and still got to my meetings in good shape.

We only had a chance to stay here for one night at the end of May 2004, but I would highly recommend this hotel. The rooms are very clean and are of a good size. The food served in the restaurant is delicious, and the location is fantastic.

The Riverside was very comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in the new tower and the room was large, clean with a king size bed. The view was of the river which was nice to look over in the evening. The riverside is a couple of minutes walk from the water taxi main stop. This was a great way to get to the beach or other shopping areas or hotels. Shopping and dinning on las Olas is great. Overall just a great hotel in a great area.

Top Local Tips for Fort Lauderdale

Los Olas Blvd. Great stretch of restaurants and shops both on Los Olas and the Riverwalk.

Take the Carrie B We loved the 90 minute tour of the intercoastal waterway on the Carrie B - an old river ship with a bright red paddle wheel. We saw so many beautiful mansions, and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. It was fun seeing the cruise ships up close also. Definitely fun for all ages.

Getting from Miami Airport There's a Tri-Rail train service that starts at Miami airport, and runs north up the coast past Ft Lauderdale. It runs once per hour, and there is a shuttle bus to the station from the airport. Single fare to Ft Lauderdale ( get off there and not FLL airport) is $4. There were taxis at the station to take you into town centre.
